I personally have a major dislike of 4S for other then cars. Anyway I need a dual sport to rip around NYC, Long Island etc. since my diesel truck is overkill sometimes and gets like 12 mpg.
I really want a plated KTM or Gas Gas 300, But around here even with a plate I can expect to be pulled over and ticketed on a regular basis with a 2T. So im forced by the greenies to buy a 4S.
Im looking at Husqvarna's its between a TE310 or a TE 449. They seem to be on sale for like $2500 off list. They are both about $6000 OTD. Im not looking forward to shimming valves.
Whatever I get it wont be a HonDa.

You won't ride a modern 4 stroke hard enough to ever need to adjust valves...

Although I understand your reasons, buying a 4s over a 2s is still one of the gayest things I've ever heard. I'm talking Nickelback opening for Justin Bieber gay.

Those sexy redhead Aprillia twins are selling cheap as well. Could help with picking up chicks too! And even if it didn't help, you'd still have the sexy redhead twins.

I would love the Aprilia but it seems that the bike has flaws that i do not wanna deal with. Lets just say its tempermental from what I have read.
So im going to talk to a dealer about a street legal plate for a WR300, Then register it in Florida (no inspection) just worried about going through the DMV and getting stuck. I guess I can just idle it around when im on the street....see that wont work.
No key on the Wr so it will get stolen quick if I park it......see im forced to buy a fricken 4S. Rather do valves the be in court constantly.
I'll just have to buy 2 bikes the CR (Husky) is also on sale, $4,300 bran-new 2013 includes a 144 kit. I will post pics after i drive to MO. and pick them up.

I just bought a Yamaha WR250R to ride around on the streets/trails. Could have picked up a 310 Husky for the same price, much better off road but I really didn't need that so i went with the low maintainance Yamaha. My body is getting too worn out for moto so this is what I resorted to Sad

First step would be to get rid of that diesel pickup. That sucker must be a real dog. Most of the ones I've seen will go quite a bit faster than 12mph.Tongue

Have you looked at the new CRF250L?? Nice bike, & your not gonna have any problems outta that bike. we had 1 on the showroom floor last year when they first came out. Sharp looking bike, felt good and the price tag was the sweetest part of the deal. I can't quite remember, but I think it was $4200 for a 2013, which was a great price for a new bije in that class, IMO... I had a crf250x and the bikes are similar in alot of ways & the 250x was/still is one of my favorite bikes that I've owned.. Those bikes handle & ride like a dream, so smooth, feels great & easy to ride. I always felt SOOO comfortable on that bike and had lots of confidence it.. Just my $.02

I wont ride a Honda...or any current Jap bike for that matter....I wouldnt put a dime in Honda's pocket. Just my opinion. Im pretty set on a 310 and 125/144 if there are any left.
No offense, but the CRF250L is a little girls bike.

Heard that, depends on your use for it. I wasn't sure of your riding skill, that's whyi mentioned it. We sold a couple 250L's to a variety of riders. A young kid got one for driving to work, also we had an older guy, (30ish) buy one as well. Military guy, just needed something cheap to get him around. If you've ever worked in a bike dealership, you'd be very surprised who comes in and buys what... It's all about what you need your bike for. Anyways, So your looking for a mid bore dual sport? Why no jap bikes? KTM seems to have a wide variety of bikes, sizes, dual sport etc... I like the exotics, their jay so pricey, parts are limited where I live for the other brands, and no one sells then so I don't have much of an opinion on those. I've only read about them, no one I ride with has any except one Husberg 450, which is a nice bike. Something I noticed about when I ride my buddies KTM, or berg, it's hard for me to get comfy on them. They have a different feel than any of the jap bikes, not sure what it is. But very different feel all around.

Yep,My last dual sport was a 1995 KTM 620 left side kickstart only, That I bought new from Ghost motorcycles. My leg still hurts. My first was a 1975 DT100 yamaha. Also had about 15 roadracers and 25 to 30 motocrossers LOL and a V-max.
The closest track is like 2 hors away,so I don't get out there much.So I need something street legal,Besides my Triumph Daytona.
So I have decided on the TE310 or perhaps a 449 or 510 whichever i can get the best deal on.So it looks like im driving to town & country in NJ or road tripping to Gateway BMW in St Louis MO ASAP. Gateway has a leftover G450x that I need for my brother to match his car so a 17 hour trip may be in order. If they have a CR125 in the crate i'll try to get that too as I have extra room in the garage and im lacking a 2 stroke, I only have 4 now.

I'd go with the 310 any day over that kymco-powered bmw abomination 449.

Don't do the WR300, it would not make a good dual sport, they have a close ratio tranny and need a 6th gear.

Are you riding this on the street? Sounds like you're over thinking it a little too much. If you're riding on the street, then you should get something else other than a MX based 4s.

If you're riding on the dirt, just go with the best deal. All the 4s are about the same. If you're going to buy a 2s, same deal, just find the best deal.

A guy I ride with has a 750 and with the Termignoni carbon cans he put on it it is the fucking tits! Coolness factor is off the hook, sounds like pure sex and he hasn't had any issues with the bike.

Depending on how big you are, the Husky CR125/ 144 is the best deal going IMO.

I ride a 300 2T and that would be miserable riding around NYC and Long Island. 4T for street all the way. Get one that is made for the street like a drz or klx......Not one that is made for dirt but can be plated. Cant imagine trying to cruise down the LI expressway on a 300.......You would kill it in no time.

I agree resetjet. I was 99.9% sure I was going to buy a Husky 310. When I realized I would be on the street more than the dirt I started to have doubts and did my homework. Settled on the Yamaha WR and love it. Gives me the feeling of riding my dirt bike around town but has very good street manners and also very low maintanence compared to the Husky.

Yes because that would make a great street bike.
