Good topic. Marvin is awesome, and I've always been a fan of DV, but I think I would have to go with Sorby. Super annoying, but his NFG attitude is hilarious.

All of them. Most French riders ride with a bit of flare which is good to watch - although Tortelli was just a nutter early in his career!

Hmmmm .... not sure on that one! Tongue

Tortelli. Such a shame that he was hampered by injuries throughout his career. The sheer speed he could carry was just ridiculous.

There seems to be another wave of Frenchmen on the horizon with Teillet, Ferrandis and Febvre. All with flamboyant and ultra cool riding styles.

The Christophe Pourcel of 2009-2010 is the most inspiring rider to me. His riding style and way of always riding in the meat of the powerband was awesome to watch. The later part of his career was probably a mix of bad choices
and a bad economy.

This clip of him wheelying a uphill rhytm section is really cool.

I admire JMB more for his sweep (world titles then US), but all these riders have been exceptional:

JMB: MX/SX, Moto GP (!) with top 10 results (!), road endurance wins, enduro wins, trial, rally car, sailing, mountain bike etc

Pichon: a huge career as well, including wins in world enduro championship, beach races, road endurances, etc

DV: same, including team manager, too bad he missed a SX 250 title

Tortelli, same, and too bad he got injured because he was probably the fastest of all, probably doing great with his school.

Roncada: great results + he is one that made us enjoy mx video games!

Sorby: the entertainer

Pourcel: 3 major titles, almost 5, potential to do like JMB...

Musquin: 2 major titles but he will need to be more agressive if he wants more

Next: for now it is a ?, i feel us teams have less & less foreign riders (except KTM)

I repeat myself but it would be great also to have american riders in GP..

Pretty spot on right there. Wish Roncada / Pourcel could have done more on the big bikes. Will have to wait and see on Musquin.

Holy Crap!

To be more precise on french riders who used to race in America, don't forget names like Thain, Lalloz, Boniface, Coisy, Aubert, Izoird...

Bayle, Pichon and Pourcel gave the French a bad rap for being A-holes and arrogant. Thankfully Marvin isn't like that!!

Not because he has been one of my teachers ( Smile ), but I would add Cyril Porte, who was close to do as Pichon in SX, on his few races he finished 4th once if I remember well. I think Guedard and Bethys came too.

Yes, but I was talking about french riders who made at least an entire SX or MX season in USA...

I forgot Vialle too.

I raced with Boni once, and damned he was fast on 80's, already supported by Honda France. Like Aubert, it is unfortunate that their height made the transition to the 125 really difficult at the beginning, with too many injuries, because they were really big french hopes. Still Aubert managed to get a few world titles in enduro Smile

True, that was only before the french/GP season. My souvenirs are also sometimes approximative, I stopped following MX/SX for almost 10 years. (studies then work)

Paulin did a few US SX races too...

You can add Bolley (1995 and 1998) for a few races too...

... and Soubeyras!

Pourcel would have to be my favorite Frenchy - his alternative lines, ability to beat the best and that smooth deceptive speed, it's a shame it has all ended prematurely!

Yves Demaria never entered any National Outdoor race or any US SX, but won a major event in 1994 (250 GP in Budds Creek).
