There are some people on this site who actually have an understanding of what it takes to be successful at the top levels of this sport. Some post, and I'm sure some who are qualified to post don't. It's a waste of time and energy to get in an online argument with someone who doesn't even know that he doesn't know what he is talking about. It's unfortunate because there could be more valuable content on this site if that situation didn't exist, but that's the online world I guess.
For me, deleting posts is sometimes an effort to raise the collective IQ.

I wish some people were better at self-editing.

There's a big difference physically between high school athlete heavy weight training and what eli was shown doing. If he was squating 500lbs it would be a different story. His training looked appropriate from what i saw. Also exercise in a gym is way safer than seat time on a bike, just ask Millsaps or Dungey.

Wow, did I say it was based on his Daytona performance alone??

I say it based on his performaces over the past 2 years and my own experiences from when I trained my ass off when I was racing at a similar level back in the day in Aust.

I'm quite disapointed at your response Kardy, clearly you know better than me.
No offence, but how do you know how to train Eli Tomac? I'm sure they don't just do things at random.

I happen to agree with Jeff.

We can (and should) do better here. That's why the original thread got deleted.

Tomac has improved so much its incredible, he rode the 125 world mini in NZ 3 years ago and managed the win after battles and a moto win each to Tomac and Tye Simmonds from Aus, he did alright the next season and is now a dominant lites rider, give him just a little more time and im sure he will progress rapidly in the open class also. Dont forget Stewart and Reed are and always have been very fast so the pro open class is at an all time high and Villo is doing stuff on an open bike that i have never seen. I have seen lites bikes ridin like that but he is taking the open class to an extreme.

Skip to 5 mins in this vid, watch him pass Davi... that's some violent actions on a 450...

Spot on Crush. We see new stuff every year, Bob Hannah and Jeremy McGrath added probally the most but Stewarts speed was insane and now i think Barcia,Tomac,Herlings and Roczen added a little extra last season but only on a 250 and Villo has just come back and matched them all with the same stuff but on a 450.

One of the things I see him doing a lot is not just corner speed coming out, or going through the corner, but his braking going in...

either his technique is way better than most or it's horrible and just quicker If that makes sense!? hahaha...

I've heard people like Ping etc say, don't do it like him, but seriously, his cornering from in and out is just unreal right now, he's on a rail...

The only hint that he may over train is his meltdown in the second moto at Elsinore last year. Notice that I said "may" as it could be any number of things like pressure or Bagget just being faster that day and wearing him out. Other than that, the below pic represents this whole thread.

I have been part of Rynos training sessions and it isn't beat you down til you pass out dead, It's tuff as hell but no more than what Eli puts out during a moto. I really think this thread is about someones angst against Ryan but whatever. 90% of the people on here haven't met him, the guy is pretty down to earth. I'm an older goon lol and he has always talked to me like I have known him for ever, whether it be on the phone or at the track. He's always been cool.

While I don't agree with some of the crap Ryno spews, I'd say it's tough to tell by that short piece if Eli is overtraining or not. The body adapts and can be supported by proper rest and nutrition. High intensity interval training like what was shown is better for a motocross racer than hopping on a road bike for two hours.

I'd say Eli's performances have been caused by his poor starts if anything, and I'd bet he just wants to get through these races to get some experience under his belt and staying safe so he can accomplish his real goal.

I really thought he would kill the starts on the 450. I know its a deep field but he's been starting around 10th. . . Leaves me scratching my head.

I noticed they showed a lot of reaction training. The blinking glasses were really cool! It would be cool to 1 - have a MX/SX simulator and 2 - wear those on the simulator.

I really want to start a thread with the title "Is Eli over trained mentally". . . But I'll do as GuyB suggested and self edit.

I can't take him seriously after that fight. My one friend (relative of my ex-wife) lives in Temecula. I guess he's near wherever Hughes lives. He texted me they've become friends. I texted back that was cool, but don't take fighting tips from Ryno...lol. This comment doesn't take anything away from Hughes as a fitness trainer, though. His workouts remind me kind of the explosive-training direction that Jeff Ward was talking about.

Im sure Eli's nutrition is on point and that being said I agree with everyone who is saying he needs to train that hard. The level of physical fitness and ability to push yourself on and off the bike just keeps getting higher and higher! The thing I find very interesting is his physique changes.....he went from being a skinny twerp to being one of the bigger guys in the 250f class and packed on some serious muscle.

In the defense of Kardy.... folks are getting tired of rider speculation with out any fact to back it up.

* Over training
* Not training
* Drug use

are just to name a few. In this sport, we have the opportunity to get very close to the athletes, machines and teams. We should be grateful. However, many people demand more or project their bullshit on these folks. As Gordon Gekko stated, The mother of all evil is speculation." I see it as bonafide bullshit.

Motodude... I addressed your original thread.... Eli Tomac came from way back to catch Barcia at Daytona before going down. By far the toughest mentally and physically testing track. Where is your evidence that he is over training? What do you know about nutrition? What do you know about Tomac and his camp? Is there evidence to back up your claim? Can you you dispute my Daytona claim?

The thing is, everyone has seen workout videos. You know what you don't see? Rest day videos. You know why? Because you'd be bored to death, and they're not nearly as interesting.

He's got smart people around him. I think he'll be okay.
