I first got on to him with his RacerX podcasts back in the day. They were awesome. I like almost all of the stuff he has done since. More importantly he is a Canadian and cheers for my Maple Leafs. We stick together.

Now since your post about why people like him you have given him a 2 pager on Vital. Winning.

Matthes really does a lot for the hard core moto community and here you are bitching about it. You know? I'm not sure you listen to the radio show, but this week him and JT explained over and over how they can't win. The internet just gets pissy about anything.

If he doesn't release rumors and insider info, someone will complain that there isn't anyone doing that stuff.

If he does release rumors and insider info, people LIKE THE OP complain that they don't understand why people pay attention to him.

I suppose we could all sit around here talking to each other and just make shit up. Or we could listen to a guy who is paid to go talk to team managers, riders, and other industry to get information. As a personality I think the dude is a little touchy and very quirky, but he offers information you don't find anywhere else. Should we just do what Kenny Watson says and only report on press releases?

It's not as if he's the only media outlet of any sport who does this. It's how it has to be if we ever want "insider" info. Who cares if he doesn't say who told him and you call it a rumor to start just in case, that way you're not completely wrong if things change.

I think his show, podcasts and interviews are all good. He writes it how he sees it and some riders don't like him for it.

He's really the only moto reporter doing any digging. The BEST thing about him is he just a regular guy- he gets a little grouchy sometimes, but he's not a Cali-Bro-Too-Cool-For-School-Douche.
The podcasts are pretty crucial to knowing anything behind the scenes. JT$ is also really good.

Steve is a great reporter and gets the stories and supports the sport, even wrenching for team Canada at the Vet world races a few years back!

I am going to start by saying that until 7 years ago when my cousin first turned professional I was very casual fan of the sport. I knew who Mcgrath was and kind of knew who RC and I have never ridden a motocross track. I have always been a big sports fan though so I got very interested and hooked on the sport when he started racing. In other sports I could just turn on espn or read the sports section to get my daily sports news or I could flip on the local sports radio talk show and here all about the sports topic of day for hours upon hours. This sport was more challenging, I started looking and found Matthes stuff as one of the few of places that I could get a daily look at the sport. This is why Matthes is important to the sport because he gets it. I love his podcast and shows because they have helped me get a better understanding of the sport that I am not sure that I could have found anywhere else. With that said I for sure don't always agree with the things he says, especially about my favorite rider Smile .

I think Matthis is about the best thing going in MX media. I like that he seems like a regular guy and says what he thinks. I think he throughs out some devils advocate stuff on his podcasts sometimes but that's ok. I don't think there is a more connected guy in the industry as far as getting the scoops. I for one appreciate what he contributes and can't waite for his features and podcasts. I hope he stays around for a long time. Great job Steve.....

He writes it how he sees it, shouldn't he be writing how it actually is? He has plenty of sources, yet when he wants to rip a rider, does he go to the rider? Nope, he goes to everyone but the rider.

He is like a jr. high school girl, he gets told something, then he tells everyone about it.

I love all the podcasts he does, and since discovering it all it has turned me into even more of a super fan of the sport. Watching the races is a lot more fun when you can actually get to know the riders, and are keen to the behind the scenes stuff. Steve's podcasts make this possible, and they definitely make work much more enjoyable.
