Looking at a PW50 for my 5 year old. But remember seeing theses little electric bike that looked like a great bike to start with, just can't remember what they were or where they came from. Thanks for any info.

Stick with the gas bikes.

I got my 8 year old a ttr50. Great bike. Bigger than the PW though.

Both great great starter bikes!

Good luck!!!

Got my kids started on an OSET 12.5 with bicycle training wheels. They were also riding a glider to build balance. Then the training wheels came off of the OSET. Then both my son and my daughter started riding an JR50 with training wheels at 5. the wheels were off by 6.

Good luck, gear them up and keep them safe.
Have fun and capture every minute of it.

Wait till she gets on a 85
Next thing you know she gets surgery on her broken collar bone and you feel like shit for buying her one.
Sorry for the pissed off post
This is night one after surgery and her nervblock just wore off and the pain is here for the night
I'm on drink number six (and i am not talking redbull) and I let he ride/race because that's what she wanted to do but I am dad and dad is responsible for her and I feel like I should of kept the girls off the bikes ( I have three racing two girls and one boy)
Another note....My boy gets ACL repair on the 26th at 11yrs old
No "winning" over here in oklahoma

Keep the girls off 2strokes
Ttr-110/ttr-125
Whiskey throttle is a bitch

My Daughter went from the PW50 @ 5 then at 7 she jumped on the Kx65 and never looked back for her 9th birthday we got her the ktm 85.. The Crashes were not my favorite but when she won her First AMA National Championship it was one of my proudest moments. I put her on the most difficult tracks with the fastest riders and the rest is history. If she loves it support her..

We started the kids off with a pw50. Looking back I think a Honda 50 would have been a better choice. After they get comfortable, they can start to shift. Once they out ride the spring suspension you"ll go to a KTM or Cobra. The good thing about those small bikes is if you buy a good used one you"ll sell it for the same price. They just hold their value really well.

Hey Pops,
Wishing the best for your little girl. I have one to and know your pain when they get hurt.

Some very talented young girls coming up right now. I just hope they have a place to showcase the skills they have worked so hard to master.

I like the Honda or TTR 50s because you can put it in first gear and set the throttle stop so that it can't go too fast. The only downside is that they weigh more than a PW.

We like the PW50 better than the Honda CRF50 because it is lighter weight and has a lower seat height. A 5 year old will have a lot more confidence on the lighter bike.

Way cool on doing this. Even if it's just casual riding for a few years it will build so much self-esteme & character.

Nice way for a Father & Daughter to bond.

Congrats!!

I have a TTR50 and a PW for my nephew. The thing about the PW is ,when you get the throttle limiter set low enough , they will barely pull themselves. And even then, they are still capable of a bit too much speed once the clutch locks up and they start to pull. At 1/8 to 1/4 throttle openings, they can still get going fairly fast, and if a few bumps are encountered on a PW at speed, it can get hairy for a little guy.

I too , prefer the TTR with the limiter turned in a bit, in first or second gear. Seat height difference is roughly three inches taller than the PW,although it is a bit heavier bike.

Go with the PW. This is my daughter last summer when she just turned 4.

This is before we took the training wheels off the PW and my middle daughter on the LT50 4 wheeler when she was 2. The 4 wheeler was a great tool to teach them throttle and braking

I know it is blasphemous to suggest anything unless it requires pre-mix, but I went the cheap electric route for my son's first bike at 5 years old. Even mini bikes are WAY too much money to spend when you aren't totally certain riding MX bikes is going to be their thing or not. My thought was if I spend $200 on this and he totally digs it and is willing to prove he wants something more, I can justify the expense of a PW50 or something like that. I spent $100 on graphics and numbers etc... LOL It is fast enough that he has scared me a couple of times. He is doing a good job learning how to ride on it, and more importantly, he WANTS to ride it.

I see your point, but I only spent $400 on the PW and it came with the training wheels. I can easily sell it and still get $400 for it. You just have to look around and get a deal.

That is a steal on a PW50. At that price I would have done the same thing. I haven't found a decent one under $650.
