get stuck sitting next to the biggest a**holes at supercross? We buy our tickets from the local shop and have tried the expensive seats and the cheap seats. But every year it's the same story. The asshats seem to think the day is about getting drunk and then doing stupid shit during the show. It's not worth getting in a fight and ruining the whole night but it just makes us want to stay home and watch the show on tv. We've had people so drunk that they are tossing their cookies next to us or just passing out all together.
This year the vacinity drunk thought it was funny (among other things) to throw a full drink cup over the folks in front of him. I think it may have been an intentional thing just to get a fight started.

I agree. I've never been to a SX, but I have been to NHL games and Monster Trucks, and its the same. Always a dickhead or five to ruin peoples night.

You're not alone. It has pretty much been the same thing for my family thus far. It ranges from standing up out of our seats so they can go take a piss or get a beer every 10 minutes to guys not shutting up. It's just part of the ride unfortunately and you gotta learn to deal with it.

I dont attend many these days. Last one was Dodger Stadium and it was awesome because no one showed up. If youre in the vicinity I would bypass SX and hit MX. Better crowd at the outdoors IMO.

That's the one thing I dread about going to the races. There never fails to be some stupid bro(s) or group of drunk people that seem hellbent on ruining the experience for those around them. I chuckle a little when the TV broadcast tries to portray attending the races as such a family-oriented experience. I realize there's only so much you can do about that sort of thing though.

On a side note: There's always talk about what we can do to grow the sport or how we can become more mainstream in the future. Personally I think one of the things that we need to do is try to shake the bro/fmx stigma that is attached to motocross. If the general public viewed the riders as world class athletes rather than "dare devils", it would begin to build credibility in the sport. Having skin tight, leather-clad Monster girls who resemble strippers more than they do trophy girls or cheerleaders doesn't help either. Just my opinion.

Don't go messing with the hard working gals of moto!

Strippers, trophy girls, and cheerleaders are there for the same reason: eye candy.

Do you take issue with objectifying women or just dislike ladies who wear leather and could possibly strip for your amusement?

If I read you correctly, you would be fine if they dressed as cheerleaders. Maybe we agree after all! heh

Haha. Trophy girls, umbrella girls, etc have always been a part of motorsports. I don't have a problem with that. I just think the Monster girls are a little trashy. Even the Redbull girls at the nationals are a bit more classy.

Saying the Monster girls are a little trashy is kind of like my wife saying, "Those aren't real, you know". I know she means it as a cut-down, but I don't see it that way. Not real? That's OK. A little trashy? That's OK too.

I've never been in the El Cajon PD drunk tank, but attending the San Diego Supercross sure feels like it.

I never go to my hometown SX anymore, it has gotten to the point of stupidity with the drunks in all sections.

This year I attended two Anaheim races, and the crowd there is always better behaved and more family oriented.

Also, try to put two six year olds in front of a tv show that has the Monster Girls grinding and posing, its makes me uncomfortable.

Dont get me wrong I like the girls, but as a responsable dad I think its too much for the little ones to see that stuff.

Any time you combine alcohol with large groups of people it's going to get annoying for the sober people. Its funny cause I got so drunk at supercross in 2011 that I could barely even walk straight. I remember cheering for the local guys so loud during the opening ceremonies that a lady with her daughter turned around and told me to "Shut the fk up"... Then this last year I had some drunk assholes sitting in front of me standing up the whole main event trying to talk to their friends that where behind us. Evil Super annoying.

I even get annoyed at Washougal now a days with people not watching the races and just getting in the way of watching. It's still fun to go to the races though, I've been going to Washougal nats since i was 11 back in 1997 and I'll always try to go there.

I know for a fact that here in the Netherlands during football games there is no alcohol being sold to the public. Not allowed during the game. Maybe the same should be done over in the states?

It all depends on the people. The only SX race I have been to since I have been legal, has been vegas, which of course means a lot of partying, and yes, drinking. If people can handle their alcohol, then thats not a problem.

One thing I noticed at the 2 football games I went to, was that they had a text messaging system set up to anonymously report out of control fans. Not sure how well it worked (the section I was sitting in at both games seats were $450-600, so everyone was minding their manners) but definitely seems like it could be easily applied to stadiums at SX events.

You'll just bepunishing those who want to drink responsibly and respectfully. The idiots referred to here spend the entire day in the parking lot getting trashed and the race is the grand finale for their drinking.

I got fortunate with the SX I attended 2 years ago and Jerryland. We got our backs parked against a concrete wall with nobody behind us. No issues at all.

I feel like an old bastard at 27 years old. I prefer to watch the race at home more than go for the most part. Don't have to deal with paying $40 to park, $10 a beer, and the drive. Also don't have to deal with these idiots around you. But you definitely have more to see when you go to the races. Just have to pick your poison.

It's not the drunk people that bother me. Somehow, I always end up behind a large women with a deformed lower back tattoo and pants that don't meet her shirt. Gotta kill two hogs to get that picture out of my mind.

Just out of curiosity,

how many of you go to NFL games? Do you take your young ones?

I have two boys, 7 and 2. Having been to SX's at almost every round for many years I know what to expect. I know there are going to be drunks EVERYWHERE at every city.

I have been to NFL games that are worse.

If you bring excitement, adrenaline and alcohol to an event and it is bound to happen. I remember being a kid in the late 80's and seeing many fights at SX races.

Do they still offer "family" sections?

Another option is to get a group of people together and look into getting a suite. Yeah, it may be more expensive, but in most cases you get your own bathroom, no lines at the concession stand and you won't complain about the partiers. Some even have a carpeted room or extension, once my kids got bored at intermission they were playing and running around. I did this at New Orleans last year and San Diego in years past, great seats and no drunk drama. Most the time suites are "owned" by either an individual with a season pass or the stadium, they are not offered by ticketmaster. You can negotiate with them, especially when the event gets closer.

Interesting idea. In this case I wasn't they focus of their stupidity as I wasn't in front of them. The asshat was with a group of about 6-10 friends so this might be a good option. The last and only SX I went to in Vegas, they actually placed an officer in our section after about the 2nd heat race. apparently there were some intense confrontations present.
As far as the monster girls go, Im OK with that, they aren't dressed any worse than the girls at the local high school that the kids will be around anyway.
