He was just pushing the envolope, yet i personally blame whoever came up with the idea of whoops out of turn one.

Just saying... I can make a 2 hr long movie on JS crashes over the last 2 years,, NO JOKE ! the guy needs to be aware of who's around him and make moves to stay away from guys that might get into you..It's better to be in 7 or 8th after the first corner then try to push it hard and get droped out of the race or back to the back of the pack... as soon as he or i would have seen reed come over on him or me,,,i would have been hard on the brakes to avoid that,,, but tht's just me. some times it's better to let up,,,then go full out and crash again,,,( look rv was in about 8 or 9th on the start,,,he let up big time ,,took the inside line and came out first !!!!! ( that's what i'm talking about ) with james he only thinks about what he want's to do,,and none of the other riders right next to him,,,

James backed off and waited at the top of the berm and still got nailed. Not sure what video you saw.

When Chad and Davi move into the main racing line, their wheels hit in the rut line of the whoops, this kills Chad's momentum and I ASSUME this may have felt as though he was hit from behind (because it was a hit to the rear wheel).. That is the only reason I can guess as why he thought Stewie hit him from behind. I don't think he did.

I can't imagine Grant expected Reed to come over from the center of the track into him. He had no where to go. Their bars locked and neither one of them was in control at that point.

I agree that if Grant wasn't there, Chad would have saved it. But that's as valid as saying, if Davi wasn't there, Chad would have never run in to him and lost control. You can't blame Grant anymore than blaming Davi.

I do believe this chain reaction began when Reed got a small amount of kick out when coming out of the corner and THIS MISTAKE caused him to drift towards the center of the race line and eventually in to Davi (Davi's line). (see stewie's go pro - go ahead, watch it for the 15th time) My opinion disagrees with Swizcomers post on Pulp which claims Chad decides to change directions half way thru the whoops. I would say he was going that direction the entire time.

I understand the question I guess.....but at the exact :16 mark.....it looks like it happened exactly like I said it did. Those guys are 3rd gear tapped....locked bars for a split second......and there is no way Grant could not of prevented from plowing right in to the side of Reed. Honestly......it looks like Grant was about ready to bail before he got to Reed. I don't think there was anything he could have done to be honest.

What are you getting at?
1/29/2013 9:32pm
While technically Reed is the biggest contributor to the pile up. I think the we need to separate a mistake from stupid riding. In this case I believe it was just a mistake. Sometimes shit just happens, and sometimes we make shit happen. Can't wait for Sat.

Bonz your an idiot. If he slammed on the brakes or let off he would have caused a 15 bike pile up and possibly injured even more. Plus Chad would still have whiskey throttled to a crash.

Do you race?

Blows me away that people are like that. They are racers man. Just a bunch of dudes riding dirt bikes on a track.
Dude, you missed the best part. After shit talking Josh the guy then tried to bro down and was talking about riding together when Josh comes to town. I honestly dont know how half of the human population finds the front door to exit the house in the morning. Pure stupidity.

That picture explains hardly anything. When you're going mach 5 into a corner after a set of whoops only inches away from each other?.......it makes it to be a completely different perspective.

Also....Davi didn't hit Chad's rear wheel.....watch it in slow motion. Chad's rear wheel damn near rode right up the back of Davi's rear wheel the split second he pulled in front of Reed.

It's some hairy shit....and about 1' closer........Reed would of been doing cart wheels down the track if those two rear wheels would of hooked up.

Terry.....I see that and can explain it 100%. About a 1/4 second before that shot was taken.....Reed and Grant were locked bar to bar. Reed broke loose while Grant started to get on the brakes. Reed already started to go down and Grant hadn't even had a chance to think about starting to turn......and just went strait.

I have heard people in numerous threads say it was "Grant's" fault.....?? What? He was off to the right minding his own business when Reed came out of no where and broadsided him. If you were in Grant's shoes......what happens when that type of thing happens? You both lock bars....and go strait. Which is exactly what Grant is doing in that picture.....right before he center punched Reed....who then got pushed right in front of Stewart.

Watch everything from the go-pro to the TV broad cast and you'll see i'm right if you watch it in slo-mo. I personally watched these things like 10 times.....because I was really curious to see what happened.
Well, it seems we pretty much agree on what happened: Grant pushing Reed into Stewart. I said " A picture is worth..." and you said that it shows nothing, but then go on to explain exactly what I thought that it shows. Hmmm, you have a strange style of disagreeing with a guy, but I'll accept it!Wink

I said from the beginning, that it was a racing incident. To place "blame" on Reed is silly, but that's where the "you know who" sucklers want to go with it. There were more ingredients than "just" Chad getting squirrelly.

Sorry for the confusion, I agree with you,.I meant for others blaming Grant to look at that moment in time, it is obvious Grant did not initiate the crash and had no choice but to bail or try to ride it out.

you have sum up this whole topic(4 pages now) just that easy. everyone is trying to blame someone for this crash when it was no one fault. im not a big JS fan, but i am glad he didnt hurt himself worse then he is now.

TerryB.....sorry man.....I thought you were suggesting that Grant caused the whole thing or whatever. My bad dude.

Husqerdo......Completely understood ( now ). Didn't know what you were getting at.

It is funny reading through some of the comments on this thread though....make a fella laugh for sure. In another thread....some dude claimed that Grant caused the whole thing and was riding recklessly. I am not a huge fan of Grant , but I don't dislike the guy either......but holy hell , how could someone blame him....he was just along for the ride in that wreck. Same with Stewart. Reed screwed the pooch......and I'm a huge Reed fan! Woohoo

Personally, the only thing I manage to gather from the videos is that 20 guys, separated only by the thickness of the average pubic hair, funneling down a set of whoops at varying speeds is a terrific idea.

I am curious how Barcia could have gone down so hard in what almost seems like a completely separate incident. Surely anything going down in this brilliantly positioned set of whoops is to be blamed on Chad Reed, the king of squids.
1/30/2013 12:06am Edited Date/Time 1/30/2013 12:11am
I never want to hear the words "racing incident" ever again. You guys suck.

But that's what it was, obviously. It's already been said: that's what happens when twenty guys enter a whoops section INCHES apart. Whose brilliant idea was that? There was the same kind of carnage in the first 250 heat.

Yes, James would've gotten ripped really hard if he'd been in Reed's shorts. Yes, he's pretty much brought that on himself with his...history. Yes, Reed was the most out of shape - he more or less "caused" it, but it wasn't his "fault."

Some more thoughts for you:

-I do think Reed would've saved it if Grant hadn't been there. That is, I don't think he fully whiskey-throttled. He would've made the turn, but Grant sorta ran into him.

-Grant probably shit himself when Reed came over on him, so if he freaked out and lost control for a split second and whiskey-throttled into Reed, then that's cool, man, we don't hate you. For that. And if he got somehow stuck and couldn't turn, well that's cool too.

-Reed gets mashed from behind in the whoops, and when he gets up he finds JAMES STEWART's bike on top of him. What the fuck do you think he thought happened?

I agree with all of this except I would've assumed he and Davi were trying to get into the flatter main line

but just so you know Reed says in that Dirtshark interview that he was dark on Stewart cause he thought he just tried to blast through them in the corner, but realised that didn't happen when he watched it back and said it was a racing incident

That race sucked. Its always good to see Villo win but not like that. This series has kind of sucked Unsure

The thing that was most bullshit about it all was how Reed got up and threw bubbas bike on the throttle side AFTER taking him out!!! I wouldn't expect him to hold it for him but come on man. Don't go and fk up the kids bike even more.

Seriously, what do you put after the first turn? You're saying whoops are bad. Others say triples are bad (Trey and Mo). We've seen people get absolutely wadded in rhythms after a start, especially when people are doing different rhythms (Poto a few years ago)...

I guess the only thing left is a sand section or wall jump.

Honestly, I thought the rollers/mild rhythm sections that have been used in a couple of the prior rounds in the series this year did fairly good job of creating a bit of separation with being so technical that there were treacherous when crowded at the start, at least better than a whoop section beaten down at the end of the night.

But in the same way football teams use film to scout, it would not be that hard for the Feld/FIM/AMA/Teams to isolate starts from the past races and seasons and look for patterns that seem more prone to create problems with a pack at the start and those that facilitate everyone getting through as safely as possible. They may even be doing that now. And, of course, you'll never eliminate all incidents.

Do you mean at Jacksonville, when RV didn't qualify? I'm watching it and the dude in front of RV either missed a shift or had bike problems, say the announcers. I don't think there are that many issues with a normal rhythm section off the start. The first few riders will do the tricky rhythms to stretch their lead, and then everyone else just falls back and doubles through or whatever.

It's at about 1:00
https://youtu.be/JFNneJbN8bk

I don't know about you, The Universe, but this Oakland round, which just HAPPENED to have whoops as the first section, is the first round of the year I can remember where riders in two separate races (450 main and 250 heat 1) were left writhing on the ground for 30 seconds...in the second turn. Make of that what you will.

I hope you are right FreshTopEnd, and I hope they have good intentions. But what is up with the 180 degree 1st turns? Other then the first few (1 to 3) riders out of the turn they are basically all balled up for what ever the next section brings. You do not see the outdoor tracks risk this, granted you have 40 riders outdoors and 20 in SX, but really, is this what racing SX is about?
