I remember this happened at one of our local tracks, in 08, I believe. This girl was practicing and nailed some idiot who was riding the track backward. I just found the video on YouTube.

I noticed though, at the .14 sec mark, you can see the guy coming down the track, and does it look like he has no helmet on? Hard to tell.

Either way, the girl got pretty hurt. Too bad. We gotta teach these young idiots more about track safety. Sad

We've had a few incidents like that recently in Colorado, and unfortunately a few months ago a boy lost his life in a similar crash.

Moto is dangerous enough, someone riding backwards on a track is the last thing we should have to worry about.....unfortunately it isn't.

That makes me sick to my stomach to watch. How hurt is "pretty hurt"? Is she going to be OK?

I believe that both incidents I am referring to occurred at Aztec Family Raceway in Colorado Springs.

We had some asshat on a 250F riding the 65 track backwards one day. My son rolled up to him, told him he was going the wrong way and proceeded to roost the shit out of him. It's bad when the 9 year old has to explain the track direction to the adult.

I can't watch this video. I'm still trying to get over (mentally ) the head on collision I had in 05'.....which put me in the hospital for 17 days. Punctured lungs and a whole mess of broken bones.....I don't wish that upon anyone.

Anybody have a link? My iPod doesn't let me view it.
Thanks!

Stupidity is riding w/o a helmet. I'm just finishing the job they started. Sounds to me that someone forgot their helmet one too many times @ the ranch and has a dented head. From the short sleeve profile pic you have posted I'm sure you're one of the HARRY'S dude was talking about earlier that his 9 yr. old has to stop you and tell you which way the track is being ridden @qtrracer. Kudos to the backpack.

I know she spent some time in the hospital, but as far as I can remember there were no real long lasting injuries to either one. Very lucky, specially for the spode without the helmet.

She actually rode for the local Suzuki dealership, and was doing pretty well.

Glad to hear that, that's a horrible experience for everyone.

As stupid as it may sound, I believe they should post a sign for track direction at the entrance of every track. Every track I've been to they dont do this. Sounds trivial but its just a sign, could save lives.

In the case of the crashes here in colorado (2 of them in the past 8 months or so) a track direction sign wouldnt have helped I dont believe. the 1st one, a new rider was following one of his friends around the track, and I believe fell down. He then got up, and in an attempt to catch up to his friend, cut the track, and ended up pointed the wrong way. The 2nd time, I think the kid went off track to go play on one of the sections that wasnt in the current layout, and while looping backm ended up going the wrong direction. In both cases the riders ended up in a head on incident with a pro rider.

Unfortunately that does not always work. I witnessed a head on at a track here...that post directional signs. One of the kids involved in the incident later tried to sue the track and he was the one going to the wrong way!!!

I wouldn't advise this, I don't imagine it would end well for you.

Yep...I agree. That's why I wouldn't advise riding w/o a helmet around me.

Unless you're this guy. (Per brotocross RV's long lost twin?)

Can't you get prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter through negligence for something like that?

We used to ride a sand track in Minnesota that Craig Schwarz owned. You could ride it in both directons. here was a wood arrow cut out and painted pink thatwas hung on a tree at the entrance to the track. that way, noone was ever put in a situation like this.

Glad to hear the girl made a full recovery. that was gnarly to watch!!

As was pointed out, the rider going backwards tragically passed away.

The negligence standard in criminal law is usually a gross deviation from the conduct of a reasonable person -- that would likely mean that an individual would pretty much have to be going the wrong direction intentionally. Also, in a hypothetical situation the rider's estate or family could be liable in civil litigation regardless of intent.

Definitely no helmet... Nothing to protect anyway.
