How many of you would really be surprised if Stewart pulled out of the Phoenix race at the last minute?
I have great respect for the dude's riding abilities, but I have never been able to figure out why he wants to keep everything secret. Why not just level with his fans?

Is he even confirmed? RacerX reported that he is racing based off JS tweeting : "see you in Phoenix". To me, that isn't confirmation he's racing. It could simply mean he will be in Phoenix signing autographs. I'm not a JS fan but don't get me wrong, I want to see him on the gate, healthy and racing.

There's really not enough information out about his condition to determine if he'll make it through PHX, and with that being said it is a bit annoying how mysterious he's been regarding injuries the past few years.

seems to me he say's a lot more than most riders...which he gets flak for doing because he cant always back it up. Either way injuries suck and most top riders let there managers do the talking.

According to Matthes in Observations on RacerX, he says it appears to be a serious injury but he is going to give it a try. I would not be surprised if he doesn't race.

This. He says he's gonna do something and I'm sure he has full intentions of doing it, but then he finds out later that what he said isn't gonna happen. It's like telling your buddy a month in advance that you're gonna fish a big tournament with him and then the night before your wife gets sick and you gotta cancel plans. People didn't believe him when he said See you at Hangtown either. If he talks, he gets shit for what he says. If he stays quiet, he gets shit for being all "secretive." I think he "levels with his fans" about as much as he can without revealing to much to his competition. At that level with the competition as deep and talented as it is, there are some things you just don't want to say.

Flip side of this, Stewart isn't known to show up at the events for his fans while he is unable to race (if ever). If he says he will be there, I would be 99% sure he plans on racing.

Why do you think he's keeping a secret from you?

I won't be suprized at all. If he doesn't pull out after practice and go home, he will be there battling for the win in the main.

I don't appreciate is all the Stewie-secrecy over the years when it comes to his injuries. Yes, he has the right to keep the info private. But for a guy who promos himself so much I would think he would realize that his fans do care and would like to know.

I think letting your competition know details about your injuries is not a good idea, unless you want to invite a potential harder stuff in a corner.

Based on the fact that he was able to start his bike and ride, I feel Bubba possibly has an ACL/MCL sprain. Depending on the severity of the sprain, he should be able to push through the injury. I've suffered this injury myself and after about five days I was going good, however my sprain was pretty mild. Hope he's good!!

I don't believe that he never gets a verdict from his doctors until the last minute.
I get the impression that if he found out today that he can't race this weekend, he would not say so until just before the race.

Spot on. It's not about not letting your fans know. It's about not letting your competition know.

He'll probably ride Phoenix and then discover the injury doesn't get any better and he can't win with the injury so he pulls out ... We have seen this in 2012 (outdoors & supercross), 2010 (supercross), ...

I think there is a real double standard here. I have a hard time believing that RC's only injury over his career has been a badly twisted ankle and a knee injury. I remember it being said that he hid many injuries. Maybe JS says to much now. He had every intention of salvaging points this past weekend so I'm sure he has the same intentions of doing so this weekend. If he can or not is probably more the question. Maybe a question he doesn't even know the answer to. An even bigger question would be when can he go from salvage points mode to racing for contention mode. If there was not a chance of him being able to do that then there is really no sense of him racing to salvage points. If he is there this weekend, I'd say he is planning on being back to normal in a short time frame.

^ Brought up a good point about riders hiding injuries. Could you imagine Vital if Stewart hid his injury and finished where he did? A fortune would be made to anyone who copyrighted the words "washed up" and "done" and "retire."

James might consider refraining from posting on social media sites. Cryptic messages like "See you in Phoenix" only lead to speculation, which may be his intent. However, from a fan's perspective, it can appear disingenuous.

If you can track down the issue of Dirt Rider where he was the editor, it had the usual career injury breakdown.
I was shocked at how minimal his injuries were.

For one, he has that fire hydrant build that seems more resistant to crashes. Someone tall and lanky like Pastrana is more likely to bust and break when he lands. RC appears to have been made of rubber over a steel cage.

Yeah I remember in shock when RC came in fresh from whooping the world at mxdn and said he was gonna skip sx that season to fix an old knee injury ....something to the point that he was tired of it popping out over jumps :0

Was Rc hurt over his Rein of terror? Did he not Shiiit himself w stomache cramps see stars from ringing his bell and feel fevered from allergic bee sting? I imagine so....could you tell on or off the track? NOPE

Yes, because we know all those guys are out there to injure each other and end each others seasons...they are all dirty like that.

Why would Stewart tell his competitors the extent of his injury if there is a chance he can race at the weekend? He has to play the cards he has been dealt and if he can get in the head of any of his rivals, it's a bonus. I can guarantee that his rivals are just as curious as we all are.

I would like to see Stewart coast his way through practice and the heats and then dust everyone in the main and then announce that his injury was whatever it is...

It's both sad and sucky but these type of threads both speculating and trashing Stewart about injuries and if he's racing has become the norm.

Didn't say all of the riders are like that or any of them, I said "potentially" fact is you don't know for certain none would. Or maybe he feels like if he says what the details of the injury are some people will say he is only making excuses. Who knows, but I hope he's out there cause the more fast guys we got the better the racing is for all of us.

He could be in Phoenix to hit some garage sales or to race SX. We won't know until then so it is very cryptic for sure.
