I truly hope that the cylinder works out fine...But when i took the engine apart and did a little inspection on the gearbox...i could cry... gear 2,3 and 4 are all gone. I didnt noticed it when i bought it because the seller told me that the clutch was gone... the engine did ran...but i didn't took it for a ride.

Well, should be sorted out asap but finding the right parts is a bit difficult for those older bikes...

little update.... and finally got all the parts that i needed except for one major thing.... the gearbox it self. Turned out that the one currently inside the cases is too far gone, missing a few teeth and al the gears have to much free play...

I am looking for a replacement, but as with all the other parts... seems quite rare to find a good one.

Bike looks great, can't wait to see more progress.

I think you have a 05 KX250 though, or at least you have 05 wheels. 06 had wave rotors, they don't fit on older hubs.

Hi Bart,

I'm from the Netherlands as well....., funny, I was building a KX500 from '88.
Took me more than 2 years to finish the damn thing....

I used ebay a lot during this restauration, cause there is nothing to be found in Holland for these bikes, more than 50% of all I needed to replace did come from the US..
If you wait and look often enough you can find real bargains on used parts!
I must add that the 500 parts are mostly the same from 88 up until 2004, so that came in handy.....

I replaced subframe, airbox, silencer, pipe, engine cases, gearbox, crank, cilinder (hmmmm....eventually the complete engine I guess) buddyseat, plastic, bars, grips, brakelines, levers, tires, rims and spokes (HAAN Wheels) and so on....
By the time it was done, I sold it, replacing it by a CR500 to be brought to life again...(and I still have an old '89 RM 125 laying in my attic, so much to be done)

I must admit that your bike, specially when it's finished looks just great...

Glad to see an update. Sorry to hear about the gearbox. You are way ahead of what I have done on my '87 rebuild though, but my engine is almost done. That seat cover looks great with the graphics too. Can't wait to see it all together!

Theres a guy parting an 88' on vintagemx.us (Marks), not sure if the trans is compatible....?

and anybody that has an idea about what i should do with the wheels? Leave them like this or get myself some gold 21/19'' rims and chromed spokes...?

Nice to see other's restoring these great bikes! I just finished a 1987 KX 125 total restore so I know how hard you work on this and how hard it is to find the parts. There is Place in Sweden that has a lot of old Kawasaki parts, I did order many parts from them, I think website is "nosparts.se" Here is a photo of my finished project.
