Talk about going all in!

Weimer's dad literally sold his 3rd generation family farm to fund the last two years of Jake's amateur career, after running out of money. That's some serious commitment when a man bets the family farm!

That makes Chad Reed's gamble of betting on himself to win the National Championship with that Lloyd's of London insurance policy a couple years ago seem like betting on the Harlem Globetrotters over the Washington Generals!

I'm glad it worked out and Jake was able to buy his dad another farm. Holy shit, what a great story! Troy Adamitis is knocking it out of the park with "The Moto: Inside the Outdoors"!

How many lost the farm (or house) you don't hear about, talking all the way down into the amateurs.
That $100K a year to race sure keeps coming up a lot in these episodes. No payments for pleasure in this house.

Watching that show makes me really glad I never made it out of the C class.

Didn't really have a position on Weimer one way or the other before last nights show.....now I'm rooting for him.

Might be a long shot for a Championship but I think he's a solid top 5 guy. Looks like his old man made a good investment.

Awesome story ....I like the fact that the son gave back to dad after all the sacrifice. It ain't all doom and gloom
It's important to show all aspects when telling a story .great series, awesome perspective!

I'll be rooting Weimer more than I used to after last nights episode. I'm disappointed that there's only a couple more episodes of The Moto remaining for this season.

Awesome story for sure! Both Jake and Jason are awesome dudes! Wish they would of talked about Jake's dad buying the MOTO track in his hometown to give us local amatuers a better place to ride. Inside the outdoors is way better this season!

Good stories, showing a side of the sport that needs to get exposure, but I prefer the original format that actually followed the racing and events directly related to the championship chase....

i disagree. that can be had and has been done. these latest 'inside the outdoors" have been awesome. tells a story, gives you the real story....very emotional and you can feel it. these are some the most real, truth telling looks behind the scenes....this is the moto i remember when i was a kid...the costs, the emotional tolls....the ups and downs. VERY WELL DONE.

"He actually bet the farm" lol .... I kinda laughed even though it wasn't a laughing matter. as you see it tossed around so carelessly.

I'm with you man, this series is incredible. The behind the scenes stuff is what our pass time is missing. Can't wait to see who's story comes up next.

One thing I notice was he said

"jake sucked at racing until age 14"

also "that he was forced to sell the farm when he was 14 too"

So before 14 he suck yet they still spent that much money???

For my viewing pleasure, I'd say that has been the quickest half hour show I've seen in a long time(ie the best). I can't believe how quickly that time goes by.

The series’ previous examples of how things worked out for 2 other families amplify the risk and level of commitment Jake’s father made. Letting go of 3rd generation family farm land is heavy stuff.
Troy deserves some support for this season’s work and the risks he took. I can’t find anything other than a customer service feedback link at the bottom of the Oakley web page but I’m filling it out.

I think he knew Jake was fast, just needed to learn racing. His dad saw the potential and put his money behind it. It worked.

I'm sorry, but if I sold the family farm to gamble on a 14 year old making it big in a dangerous sport, I'd be ashamed of myself. But that's just me. It worked out for Weimer which is great. I mean really, I'm super happy for the Weimers. But generally speaking, that isn't something I would consider wise financial planning. Again, that's just me.

I think the opposite. I have a lot of respect for someone willing to "go for it" and try to make big things happen instead of playing it safe in life. He took the risk and made the dream a reality, Weimer is now one of the worlds best Motocross racers.

Thankfully big Weimer isn't ashamed of himself nor his son. Such a cool son/father relationship.

The most important part that stuck out to me was that Jake and his dad each own 50% of the new farm. This means that Jakes dad can earn a living doing what he probably loves and when Jakes racing days are over, which will come sooner than later, his long term investment in the farm that he owns half of could serve as long term employment and retirement for himself.

Maybe there are a few pro racers who use their brain. Smile

I have not seen the video yet. And without having done an IQ test to any MX rider, I always thougth that Weimer, Reed and Windham are the three most intelligent riders racing nowadays

About the family farm or business, there is a saying that goes like this, "1st generation builds it, 2nd generation perfects it, 3rd generation loses it"

Glad Weimer's are making it happen.

Forgot he used to ride for Geico. Jake's a great rider for sure.

When I was young and new to the work force, my boss told me there were two kinds of money. The first kind was other peoples money, and what they do with it is their business. If you are entrusted with it, you properly account for every penny.

The second kind of money was your money, and as long as what you are doing with it is not illegal, it is yours to spend. You can be as stupid or as wise as you desire, just be accountable for the consequences.

Jake's dad spent his money on his son, and that was a wise decision for him regardless of Jake's racing outcome. Its his cash, its his decision. Its cool that it worked out for him. Good for him.

On a side note, after my best friend and future partner wadded up his hovercraft on a public street about a block from the courthouse, my boss added "or causes embarassment to the firm" to his future lectures.
