"The team will be using Honda machines. All bikes and equipment will be transported to the races. If the rider want's to stay and or race in Ireland they can stay in one of our houses at zero cost, all they have to buy is their own food.. The other thing is the rider is free to bring his own gear/boot/goggle deal. So technically it's a free ride for someone who doesn't have the 100K euro cash to get on a team. All transportation of the bikes to the maxxis will be paid by the and the rider keeps all his own prize money etc."

Sounds like a great deal if you don't have the 100k euro.

True. But to get get some seasoned rider with a family and bills to pay, to ride for nothing,
yes, that might be a tall order. Even if he can have his own gear deal.

How about a call for an open tryout. Handbills in every bike shop, pub and mx site in the UK.
Pick the quickest you think would last, and get with it.

This ride is for the British Championships not the World Championship.

A free bike is pure gold in most Europe contries. In Sweden no one get's bikes for free this year. Maybe Ktm's lending you one because they are desperat in MX1. But thats it. Podiumguys pays 8 000 considered sponsorprice for a bike. If you winning championship you may borrow one bike and 7500 for second bike. 5000 in parts account and 40% on parts. This is not exact figures but close to. Private importers is selling for 9000 to anyone, wich may be good for weekendwarriors of course. For longterm teamsponsor companys it's a disaster. If you are a "medium" racing rider you can have pretty much same costs without a single brandsticker. Many buy from Bto etc and got cheaper gear than "medium"sponsored rider. Positive? Not shure because when you have trouble and need parts, techhelp etc quick there will be no more local shops left supporting you? Just a thought....Unsure

Not at all. Good for them. For same amount + travelcosts you could ride or at least try at GPs couple of years ago. Now there is 19 riders sometimes racing Llongo Championship. I heard figures round 120 000 for a place in "B" team. Then you have to get your own stuff for national championship as well. And of course you pay travelcosts to GPs anyway. Ask Brad Anderson why he gave up the GP dream. He's coming from a "ordinary" family and even thou he beat the crap out of foreign GP riders in England he couldn't make it to Llongo-bankrace.Wink

Anderson is over 30 now, he rode a full MX1 GP season back in 2008 or 2009 and he was already in his late 20s by then and didn't really set the world alight in terms of running with the factory riders over a full season... that is why he didn't get a GP ride the next year.

The problem is there are already ten guys the speed of Brad already on GP teams who will score the same results and they are younger.

The MX1 class is already stacked with talent... that is the problem.

Anderson finished 23rd overall in 2008, when he was probably at his peak age-wise.

He's planning to race 4 or 5 GP's this year supposedly, so we'll see how it goes.

That makes a little more sense but of course the article doesn't say that....

100K to ride an 8 race series? I'd say that might explain why they are having to put out feelers for riders. Doesn't sound all that cost effective for a good rider to join a team at that level....

what are you talking about !? ... they are saying it wont cost you anything....and they are offering free accomodation.

We also have the Red Bull series as well in the UK....and as mentioned they can race some Irish races also.

It could maybe even suit a US rider.

To be fair the extract quoted above (which Im guessing Alpman99 read) is a bit misleading isn't it.

They quote includes a sarcastic remark about the money expected of a rider wanting to race GP's, but the team in question will only be competing at National level.

Its a bit of a silly statement really, as you wouldn't necessarily make the distinction unless you were familiar with the Maxxis Championship.

No, it isn't in the title of the link. British "scene" could certainly mean based in Britain. The link doesn't say anything about Maxxis either.
12/4/2012 9:25am
fact is if you are a fast rider without a good deal then this is a good option with plenty of scope for additional events, the negative bullshit should be kicked to the kerb and if you cannot be arsed to read or understand the link right in front of your eyes before making sweeping comments then you do yourself no favour. Seriously - here is something good on offer, in bad times, and 7 from 10 remarks are negative and made without any real knowledge - it grinds me down.

If there was some advert up for the lucas oil championship or some other sponsor for some other country i wouldn't comment until i knew what that was.

The point being that many have to pay this much to be on a team, for an 8 race season. 12K euro per race......

It would seem mighty difficult for a rider to buy his way onto a team and show any financial gain at all.

it does - read it again.

And when does British scene or any other scene mean anything other than what it suggests? It doesn't.

There was a shooting of a teenager heavily involved in the underground U.S rap scene, where would you associate him? Thailand?

"new honda team for British scene looking for riders".....it's pretty clear.

You don't have to pay that to race a British Championship... I think that was aimed at a rider who may not be able to get a ride in the World Championship and this is another option, it was more of a throw away comment with a dose of sarcasm to attract potential riders - the fact it was in Euros and not British £ points toward that as well as does the fact it is on mxlarge in the first place. And, as already mentioned, there are more than 8 races in the British MX season.

You also said ' "that is why they (referring to the team in question)are having to put the feelers out for riders."

I pointed out that the team in question is offering a free house and bikes as well as the opportunity to make some decent money in prize money at the British races, and isn't looking money in return.

You don't seem to understand.

You have to pay startfee for sure both RBN and Maxxis. I'm not 100% sure but wasn't Brads peak 10 and 11 and still are? I got this number 5 or 6 something in the British GP a year ago?....Checked it and he was 5th -11 British GP. Average rider?Wink

Yea he is very very fast in Britain for sure but racing a full GP series is different - look at the list of riders for 2012 in the good teams and tell me what one you would replace with Brad?

Who is going to give a 31 year old rider a ride and expect him to be top ten in the series against these guys?

Frossard
Cairoli
Nagl
Searle
Bobby
Desalle
Strijbos
Paulin
Van Horebeek
Roelants
De Dycker
Leok
Phillipearts
Simpson
Boog
Goncalves
Barragan
Guaneri

All those guys have won or podiumed at GP level ...that is eighteen guys already and they are all younger than Brad...

It is unfortunate for him but being at the front of two British series for a good team is going to be better for him than running around in 15th at the GPs woth maybe the odd top ten when you are 31.... he will be doing a few GPs though I believe in addition to his British Championship commitments which is pretty good.
