Hah! There's not a track within 500 miles of SLC that would be worthy of a national

John Huntsmen has been working on this since his failed presidential bid. Hes secured money from some Chinese investors to open a 10,000 acre racetrack facility called Red Square Raceway somewhere in the heart of Utah. Its rumored that if the venture has any problems, Mit Romney has offered his services as Chairman of Red Square Raceway

Hah! That's a pretty good one! I think Obama is working on a similar idea without the bikes though.

Fat chance Utah ever sees anything resembling a National though. Dirt sucks just about everywhere and not nearly enough fans to attract to a race.

All this thread is good for is getting all the Utah members together to talk about how this is a joke. If a national were to come to Utah, which track would it even be? I'd have to go with some secret project no one knows about. As Peelout so eloquently put it, there really aren't any tracks anywhere near SLC. As another thread mentioned, Powder Mtn. would be interesting, even though it is completely out of the question. It was probably my favorite track I raced this year though. Any other thoughts for best track out here?

Mona was another cool track. Granted it's in the middle of pure desert. But some good elevation out there.

The Muddy Creek thread says Miller MSP. That could mean one of three things in my mind:

1. That's a typo or misinformation.
2. They're putting a track out there somewhere.
3. They meant RMR.

Most likely 1. Could be 2. Not 3. I think if they were going to put a track in Utah, Miller MSP would be a good venue based on the big events they hold out there. As far as professional racing goes in Utah, I would say they hold the most prestigious events besides AMA Supercross at Rice-Eccles.

However, based on location I would say this is ridiculous to try and create a national there. The picture says it all. If you thought Freestone was flat and hot, check that out. See all the trees for shade...

My opinion on crowd though, I think it would be a unique event and draw people. Supercross seems to get a decent crowd each year I go.

College stadium vs. Pro team stadium. I don't really know the numbers but I'm sure this race pales in comparison to something like Anaheim or Atlanta in many ways for Feld. Love having it my backyard though!

I also think a National at Miller would be worse than Lake Elsinore this year. I was there. Fun and miserable at the same time.

^^ Sounds good to me. I like the pic too. That's why I posted it.

As far as Miller goes, I agree. I don't know what a national out there would look like, but having seen the pictures I would think it would be worse than Elsinore. But it definitely would be a different feel for a national.

Not close enough to a major airport, and, it is WAY too hot in the summer.

the old track was located where the brand new airport is, so i'm not sure where you are talking?

then again, i didn't know they had a new track in St.George.

we used to race in St.George and Cedar City many times per year, Cedar City had an awesome facility and even more awesome track back in the late '90's early '00's

Yeah, there is a new track and it is in between the 15 and the new airport . The airport is only a regional deal. One direct flight from LAX a day, otherwise you have to go up to SLC and then back down to St.George. Super PITA.

Edit: I think the new track is the old track.

Here's some video from the track. If you can get past the great song, you might be able to get a feel for the track. St. George MX Motoproving Ground. Website

Won't be national there. Guaranteed.

I think this is spun from NoInfo's comment yesterday that Romney would be happy with the location of one of the races.

Michigan and Mass are just as likely by that.

Swiz seems to be happy; he's an insider dude

We've also heard Indiana, hints at Oklahoma.

We'll see.

Our tracks in Utah are basically pure shit these days. Well, unless you like blue grooved flat track with 9000 jumps on them brah. If that is what you're after, we have the hook up for ya. We also have your choice of either so much dust that you cant see anywhere on the track or the alternative which is a track so wet and slick it turns motocross into watching baby deer learning to walk on ice. Your choice! Nothing even close to a national level track, although Powder Mountain would be a fun venue if it weren't located up that canyon. People have died driving that canyon just to get to the amateur races at Powder Mountain. I go fishing up that way a lot and its not a great road to even tow a boat on if you don't know what to expect. My vote is to supersize Delta. I don't know if its even open anymore, but it was the closest thing we had to a fun track in its best days. At least there is a solid hill to work with. Or perhaps, if we just want to keep making the sport more retarded...Cainville national? Its got dirt and jumps brah. All you need.

I was waiting for someone to post something about cedar city, that was and is probably my favorite track of all time, and by far my favorite dirt of all time.

Just a mass amount of saw dust mixed in perfectly with the dirt made for an amazing track.'

And hey peely, do you remember a kid by the name of brandon kalamakia? He was a local at cedar city and use to give mike alessi fits there......just wondering if you know what ever happened to him

The beginner class is the best to watch for baby deer, or fawns, learning to walk on ice after a good track soaking. As for delta, another one of my favorite tracks racing this past year. Still there and still fun. My son liked seeing the cows out to pasture at the top of the hill.

yeah man, i knew him. he was quite a bit younger than me. matter of fact, i was always a class/age group ahead of his older brother Kappy. they hauled ass at that track though. a lot of the guys from Cedar were crazy fast there. not to name drop, but i had some good battles with Bess and Costello on that track back in the day on 125's. some fast kids used to come up from Cali and it was always fun.

that track was the shit, for sure

back in '99-'01 there were thousands of yards of cow shit lining the top of the hill. you would see it after going up the start straight and across the top of the first hill. anyway, every year it seemed like the piles grew twice the length and height from the previous year.

one year we came back, and the piles were gone. you couldn't even walk the track because it was so slimey and gross. they had taken every last bit of that cow shit and mixed it into the dirt. practice was the worst thing ever, and God forbid you take a digger and get a mouth-ful of that awful shit (pun intended)

that track was awesome. great memories battling Kip, Barnes, and Pappy there

Good to hear stories about the places I've been racing all year. It still stinks out there. The races were there in like April this past year and it was 20 degrees for practice. The whole track was frozen. When it warmed up that day it was perfect racing weather!

Yeah, in Tooele, that place sucks in the summer and has even less elevation gain than Elsinore. Might as well have it at Godfrey's place off of 5600, at least that place has an artificial hill.
