Nike is severing its relationship with Lance Armstrong. I bet that's huge!

Not moto exactly--but, hey it's the off season.

He has also stepped down from The Livestrong Foundation. Pretty wild what's going on, my opinion is the vast majority of people could care less whether he doped or not, it's undeniable the positive impact he's with the Livestrong foundation. Hopefully the fallout isn't to bad and the foundation continues to thrive.

I hope all parties involved are proud of the outcome.

I think, from the 2005 Tour, the top 22 finishers have been caught taking drugs.

So who gets dropped next?

Who gets all the stripped titles?

How far back in the pack will they have to go to award the TdF titles? Some poor guy who dropped out on stage three is going to be awfully suprised!!! Wonder what his winnings and endorsements will amount to?

The Livestrong foundation is a bit questionable in my opinion. Take a look at this article.

http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/athletes/lance-armstrong…

I, like most people, assumed the Livestrong foundation donated money to cancer research. They do not. It says clearly on their website that they support "cancer awareness". What exactly is that? I'm well "aware" of cancer. We need hard scientific research to find a cure, not more yellow bracelets. Livestrong is not what it appears to be on the surface.

Could you imagine what would happen if the NFL started to retroactively persecute every team and player that used steroids in the past. Every championship team and player from the 70's. 80's and 90's would be stripped of their super bowl rings and Lombardi trophies.

my point. when does it end and how far back will they go?? it's pointless to argue about it.

it's about as pointless as having MLB players in front of the supreme courts, wasting our tax dollars over the use of steroids.

Karma is a bitch. Ive never been a fan of the Livestrong foundation. You could also find out some interesting things about the Susan Komen foundation (pink brigade). Just like eveything else in our false world, the truth is far from what is being portrayed to the public. The real trick is when you know what is really going on, do you take advantage of your knowledge and reap the benefits, or do you continue to do the "right thing" and not lower your morals for financial gain?

The bike doesn't ride itself over the Pyrénées Mountains.

This is NO different than all the MLB bullshit.

As for Yellow Wristbands: if you're gonna tell me that NOTHING GOOD HAS COME FROM ALL THAT?

Well, if that's your belief, Good Luck with that.

May you never have Cancer take anyone from you...

you can't be fuckin serious with that question...

most people die from cancer because they don't go to the doctor. are afraid of results, don't know whats wrong, can't afford it, ....i could go on and on. you gotta be a cold bastard to even ask what cancer awareness is.

The thing is, he never got caught during competition. Was he still cheating, yes. But how many people are using stuff they cant trace right now in almost every sport? Probably a shit ton.

Lance had the resources and had the ability to use stuff that they couldnt trace. He had other riders paid to cheat to see what they could and couldnt get away with. And why do you think he never actively raced any other BIG cycling events during the season? He only trained for the Tour and never really tried to win anything else for the same fact. Less chances of gettting caught.

So, like someone else said, do you go back and strip anyone who has been caught of cheating in every sport?

If so, you might be stripping some people of titles in the SX/MX world.

I was talking about Lance to one of the guys at church because he always wears a Livestrong band. I was talking about Armstrong's bad reputation as a person. His response was that he has testicular cancer in about 75% of his family, including a young son. So he's a fan.

I wonder if RD5 will switch up things for next year he is a pretty stand up guy and really likes Lance Armstrong. I don't know if it's bc of the foundation or Lance being a hard trainer.

As a cancer survivor and Livestrong supporter I see this decision as totally political. Nike has to get out in front of this thing and distance itself from Lance before stuff REALLY hits the fan, which I've heard and read is about to happen, but they will continue to support the LAF and what it stands for. My oncologist was Lance's oncologist, Dr. Craig Nichols, he was on the board at LAF and turned me on to the LAF. LAF gave me the tools and resources necessary to go through the cancer experience and what to expect after, including resources for family and friends of the patient. Despite what LA did or didn’t do, this organization will survive and do well. The question about if he used steroids is totally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things because LAF is bigger than Lance Armstrong.

Wow!

I just read that article and was floored!

Had no idea that the foundation does NOT give out money for research! I thought that was why they were formed. I thought they were looking for a cure!? Does it take spending $375,000 for a CEO, for example, to make people aware? $800,000 to outsource to a company help people navigate through the system when they already have 88 employees? Very confusing...

Lance has done more good for more people than harm and probably is recognized more now for his Livestrong/Cancer fight than he is for his Tour wins. Who cares if or what he took or why. The fact remains that he beat cancer and has inspired many to do the same, ie. saved lives.......These guys are professional Athletes and it is their choice what they put in their bodies. If you feel cheated that he won these tours while "allegedly" doping, then maybe you need to reevaluate your priorities. that goes for the MLB, NFL, Track and Field, and all the athletes out there. Maybe instead of holding our athletes to a "higher" standard, we should start holding our Politicians to that same standard on both sides of the aisle.

that's just my $.02 on this topic, but then again, I could care less if Bonds, Arod, etc juiced. I still enjoyed watching them and as TeamGreen said, "that bike didnt ride itself...."

Seems like Lance knows how to cheat, in sports as well as in acquiring money...

I couldn't care less what all those attention whores do And I couldn't care less if Lance is an asshole too. He will always be a legend for the ones that actually spend hours at the saddle.

Dude is an American hero. The powers that be think he has to take the fall for widespread doping and corruption in the sport when they should be looking in the mirror. Cycling is a joke now.

Wonder why nobody has raised the question of the implications for the sport of motocross, like the cross-pollenization of trainers...

Does anybody believe that the training culture in MX is clean, given that it has long been seeded by the sport of cycling?
There are certainly valid questions to be raised.

I was listening to sports talk radio this morning and they said there is a story out there where Lance's ex wife is claiming that Nike paid off an official to drop a positive test in 2006. Nike is of course saying its not true. Maybe someone can find the story. Just repeating what I heard.

That was Greg Lemond's wife.
It happened in 2006, she said Nike paid the UCI chairman 500.000 euros the make a positive dope test go away.
