I'm in those, maybe I need a new bike, not because there's something wrong with mine, but just for the fun of it. In some decades, one is toasted as a rider anyway(?), I figured play while I can... I wasn't going to care right now, but got an offer to buy pretty decent yz125 of late date, seems a good deal, that doesn't appear that often in my neck of the wood. Everybody talks about how funny they are, and I cant really remember the feeling, since I haven't ridden one properly since 05, so my question is: Would adding a smoker in my garage weight more than upgrading my present bike to something newer?

It's damn hard to answer, and I'm really, really confused If I should drain my resources for this every three mos opportunity, or hold to my guns?

Part of me wonders if going back to smokers would end me selling the F, and keep it that way? Or keep both? In one year, cash isn't an issue, because salary will double, right now it's ok, but wife might think I'm semi retarded since "you already have plenty of toys...

I remember going from a CR125 02, to a CRF250 05 I felt I wasn't turning back, but now feels so tempting...

Buy a new! Easy to maintain etc. Cool with ringadingding for a day but then you have 2 bikes to take care of. I rarely ride a Honda 250 2stroke very cool but the 450 f is so much easier to ride. I think thats the same as 125 versus 250f? Anyway buy something quick because you only live once and belive me time is flying....

Go for it! Smokers are wicked fun to ride and are awesome for trails(that last bit about trails is imo, but we all know they're fun Wink ) They're not hard to maintain and don't cost much to fix, but you need to get one in decent shape or atleast check an average condition one over(look at the engine and such if possible) and give it a ride. If theres something wrong or funny about it, lower the price. You won't regret getting a two stroke along with your other bike. Keep both if you can. If not, sell the 2 stroke.

Go for it, 125 are FUN even compared to other 2T. I have always ridden 125, this summer I bought a 300 2T and sold the 125, but damn.... I recently got to ride one and it was so much funnier that the 300. And I did not took lap times but Probably I was even faster with the 125, and if I wasn't, I didn't care because I enjoyed it like a chid

I would love to have a 125 in the garage, but I bet I would still spend more time on the 4 stroke.

if nothing else you could sell it and probably make money on it, buy it, ride it, then decide what you want to do, no shame in having both Smile

250 2-stroke ..

Doc,
If you got a later generation CR250 2-stroke and did some fixxer up mods like a Kehin carb swap and fix the airbox leak, you'd have a very fun, reliable bike..

Well I have an 07 Honda 450 I bought new ( low hrs) and was in the same debate you are.
I just bought a 04 cr 125 for fun and got it cheap. Now when I go riding I don't even ride my 450, just the 125 because it is so much fun. I find my self riding much more now i have the 125 also. I'm very glad I didn't sell the 450 and get a new one. Infact I might sell the 450 and get 2 more 2 strokes because they are so much fun!!

Get the 125. You'll learn more riding that bike that will help you ride the 250F faster.

They're a lesson in line choice and momentum that crosses over beneficially.

Plus they go ring ding a ding. Think of it as a cheap to maintain practice bike.

This. Nothing will make you a better rider than riding a 125. And they're funner than anything else, too. Getting a 144 only boosts the fun factor, too.

Two strokes are fun. I keep adding them to the garage, but I'm holding on to my 08 CRF450. Personally, I'd rather have 4 lightly used bikes than 1 new one.

very true, we have never bought a used bike, and the only bike that we've ever bought from a dealership besides my dads goldwing was my pw80 when i was little, and it was used at a dealer.

and i would keep that 08 honda, they are damn good bikes, my buddy has one
