I admit I was wrong, I thought Team USA would win the team event - they weren't even close, in fact they were lucky to get on the podium.

I didn't think Baggett would get lapped... but he did... in both motos.

I didn't think Martin Barr would have beaten Baggett but he did, in an amazing performance.

Herlings is amazing in sand, but I didn't think he could have came from last to catch Cairoli (with a holeshot) in the sand, that was one of the most amazing rides in motocross history. He is the best sand rider in the world.

On the plus side, I did think Roczen, Cairoli and Herlings would win their classes, and they did so emphatically.

"Europe" on an individual level gave America some "riding lessons" ( De Costers words) I did not expect them to beat the American's by that much. The two world champs put on a riding clinic for everyone in the final moto, truly amazing to watch guys take apart the toughest track in the world. Lucky for the US it wasn't a ryder cup style event!

I have said it before and I will say it again, the GP guys and "Euros" are just as good as the Americans, this was proven again.

I am pleased that Cairoli got to show why he is a 6 time world champ and one of the greatest motocross riders ever in the history of the sport.

Like me I feel like there are many Americans who need to do some apologising on this thread for their incorrect predictions, including the guy who said he couldn't wait until the 15min mark when Baggett would blow by Herlings.... This is what this thread is for...

BTW HUGE congratulations to Team Germany, to win your first Des Nations on the toughest track in the world is some achievement.

(please don't bring the "I'd like to see them race Supercross" arguement in either, it is a different sport and an american sport, sand riding is part of motocross, and part of being the best motocross rider in the world)

How many apology threads have there been the last 7 years when the GP guys claimed they would beat the USA?

I predicted wrong, but I feel no need to apologize to anyone for that. The best sand riders won the races, and none were from the USA. End of story.

I think you should apologize to Cairoli.....Go read his interview on RacerX. He clearly had Herlings covered and had another gear if need be. Herlings closed the gap for sure, but he had 5 laps where he was within 2 seconds and could not close it. Cairoli is the KING. That guy is ridiculous and would have loved to see him come over for a full season. He would have been tough....Truly the SAND MASTER and CHAMP imho.....

by the way, how many top 10 MX1 guys did Barcia beat in that 3rd moto? Did he lap Tommy Searle and DeReuver?

A "one off" race in beach sand proves not a thing, other than GP riders are obiviously better in those conditions.(much better!). It's like saying Ricky Ryan was better or on the same level as Rick Johnson, Ron Lechien, Jeff Ward, etc, because he beat them in the mud at Daytona in 1987. Just proved Ryan was a much better mud rider, as he wasn't even in the same league in any other condition.

No apoligies from me, just a huge congrats to Team Germany and the rest of the GP guy's. They were definatley in their element at Lommel.

He should be proud to lap Marc who crashed at the start and hasn't been in his GP form for years and just rides a few when he can now, He use to be the Sand Master but time takes a toll but he's still one of the greatest buddies around.

I am sorry for the American riders winning the last 7 races before this one and the long winning streak before that to cause people like the original poster to be so bitter. I am sorry that even though the the Americans are the best, they don't win every race and they cannot beat the Euros on every track the Euros have practiced and raced and the Americans have not even seen. I am sorry for the Americans having bad luck, some crashes, some mistakes and some bike issues in this race that caused them to move from neither normal position of 1st to 3rd. I'm sorry, Blake did not dominate Roczen like he usually does week in and week out for this race. I will apologize for next year as the Americans will probably come back with a vengeance and win again.

Herlings is a better sandrider than Cairolo, no doubt.

Even Everts said Herlings is the fastest sand rider, he wouldn't if they had a guy thas was as fast or faster in the same team.

- Herlings had only 45 minutes break.
- Herlings had to charge through the pack and push very hard, used a lot of energy
- Herlings did catch Cairoli from last
- Herlings rode a bigger bike than he is used too
etc etc..

Super Tony beat SandyVag Herlings straight up, but Herlings stole the show by coming from the back to Tony's backwheel.

Cairoli is an awesome rider and sandrider, I'm a big fan of both him and Herlings. But do you follow the GPs? Where you at Lommel? In my mind it's quite clear that Herlings is the faster SANDRIDER. While Cairoli probably would beat Herlings 9 times of 10 on hardpack

Let's stop and think for a second. Look at all the things that had to go wrong for us to get 3rd place. We had two top guys injured. It was a deep sand track that we'd never seen before. Barcia got his front wheel chopped and subsequently got a mechanical. For the circumstances, Team USA did good and I'm proud of them. I hope Barcia gets another shot because I could tell he wanted that win bad. He carried us to a 3rd place finish.

No sure wasnt there but did watch all 3 motos live on the web and also watched the US broadcast....Looked at the lap times on youthstreams site and read what Cairoli himself had to say....You have one opinion, I have another....simple as that....And yes I follow the GP's and think there is some great talent over there. Just find it odd that a lot of the GP fans are always dumping on one champ to make another one look better....did it when Musquin left(said Roczen should have won that title), do it to Pourcel(AC won more races and CP didnt deserve it), did it to Roczen(Herlings was as fast as him and had GP lead going into the last few rounds) and now are doing it to Cairoli....Relax , respect and enjoy your Champs. dont always be looking for the next big thing.....Cairoli put on a clinic in how to win a big race....that is not being disrespectful to Herlings....but no matter how you twist it or what excuses you use, AC won that last moto straight up .....

I'd say Herlings was the most impressive,he just pipped Tony to being so,the laptimes show him pretty much constantly beating Cairoli's IN TRAFFIC,coming from that far back too, with Cairoli holeshotting

I'm actually a big Cairoli fan but credit where its due,Herlings had an unusually slow lap right near the end, when he was under 2 seconds behind,it was a 2.04,it was most likely when Guaneri held him up,

No one's dumping on Cairoli here but for Herlings to crash, come through traffic and still make that much time and finish 3 seconds back, that says he's the best

BTW the Musquin/Roczen analogy you make is true, that's plain to see whenever they've raced after that GP season that Roczen was the faster

The Cairoli/CP one is too,Tony has always been a step ahead, he lost the 2006 Title to CP but struggled with a wrist injury all season, then beat CP to win the Title in 2007

All IMO though Wink

Enjoying all these threads. The replies are incredibly ironic, if the podium was flipped on its head and these threads would atill be here, with the gloating/disguised gloating spewing out ten fold.

Euro's are having their day and are enjoying it as much as the Americans would if they had won.

I'm loving it, a schooling was dealt out over the weekend over the premium mx country that has had the wood over everyone else from the past decade. Funny how people react when this is now not the case.
