You say "the teams pay the entry fees anyway" over there but you do realize that it's just coming out of the team budget, and hence the riders' salaries, right?
Please don't slag off on the nationals when you spin these things from your side. We have a much different system here and you haven't been to one in many years.

Was there ever travel allowances? I know Australia do it super cheap with this years team. Dixon charges a real good rate for loaning a bike out to one of their riders.
Team USA does come with some extra baggage or not? I mean that podium must have some serious steel to hold up all the "winners" hahahaha.

Look at the top 20/30 riders in the MX1 championship, it is stacked with talent. You think Ben Lamay who finished 15th in the AMA is getting a bigger salary than Seb Pourcel? You think Lamay is faster than Pourcel?!
The fast riders will always get through, and the guys paying at the back won't last too long because the team will want someone more competitive. Plenty of good kids coming through too in MX2. Ferrandis, Gasjer, Febvre and more coming behind them. The GPs are producing a lot of fast riders right now, and like Geoff I like to watch the front of the pack not the guy at the back.
If you are getting good consistent results you will get a good team. There are so many good riders in MX1 now because of the age rule it is hard for them all to get into teams anyway, they all can't fit, and there are new younger riders coming up all the time.
I think if you are outside the top 15 in the AMA or GPs series, you probably aren't earning a lot of money. It's motocross, it is a very small sport.
I am not slagging of the Nationals, but when a guy tried to put the GPs down by mentioning how 160 riders tried to qualify for an AMA National, and tells me 80 guys went home from a National with no money (and I am assuming they pay the AMA to get the chance to qualify), then I will mention that.
I would never slag the Nationals, I know nearly nothing about it and feel you do an awesome job.

I would doubt Seb Pourcel would do better than 15th in the AMA if racing in the states, and Lamay racing in MX1 by seasons end I think would be around the top 15 also.
Seb Pourcel of a few years back different story, but not these days. Still a great rider.
As for his wage, it was coming from his brothers team. Where will Seb be next year with no team Pourcel and how much will he be getting payed?
I Don't think there is a big difference between the top riders in each series, from 15th maybe 20th down there is a lot more talent in the Pro Motocross Championship.
And probably a little more depth right at the top, the AMA has RV, Dungey, JS, Reed and Trey if he can stay upright and now Barcia all at the very top elite level week in week out, World Championships have Cairoli who I would rate up their with any of those in the AMA, then Desalle, Paulin and Pourcel at that same level on and off, a lot like a Millsaps, Alessi or Metcalfe in the AMA, can run at the top level on the right track on the right day but for the most part just a little off the top.
But that is my take looking from a far!
Actually quite disappointed watch the World Championships this year and only seeing just over half a gate of riders at some rounds, MX at its best has 40 riders tipping into the first turn, sure they wont all run up front but that first turn is part of the excitement of MX.
In saying that the racing up front for the most part has been good this year and more exciting than the AMA, MX2 V 250s the opposite for the most part, Searle kept is somewhat interesting for most of the year.
The AMA is only responsible for the riders and mechanics and team manager, as far as costs go, and the rest of the folks here are volunteers, family and friends.
I'm sure there would be a huge amount of French or Italian fans up on the box but I've never been to an MXoN that they've won, so.....

I don't think you understand the speed of the guys from 10th to 20th. I have been to the GPs this year. They are quick, especially when everyone is healthy.

It would have been better to see Team USA at the German GP, every man for himself in an actual GP with all the GP riders there (unlike the nations). That would have been epic.
How about we nomoinate Roczen, Cairoli and Herlings to be "team europe" or just pick the top finish European rider in each class at the end of the weekend? It's ryder cup weekend after all, so we could have our own little compeition ha ha

And yep Seb has been great at some rounds this year, then now where to be seen at others. I would expect he would do the same against the US riders, be up front on a track he felt comfortable on. The thing is in the MX1 class on an average day this year for Seb his worst result would be maybe 12th as after that on a race to race basis there was then a big gap back.
A top rider could crash or fall or stall in a GP this year and comfortably work back to the top 15 and score points, IF a rider like Lamay stalled or crashed in a moto from inside the top ten, there is no way he would make it back to even 15th as there are more riders around his pace.
In the AMA this year from 10th to 25th or even further back was very close in pace with very little drop off.
Derek Anderson is the prime example a good race would see him around the top ten the next race he could finish in the mid 20s
Again not bagging on the GPs or the riders and I agree with Geoff seeing the top 10 - 15 from each class going head to head would be awesome, probably will never happen but would be sweet, I would like to see the top 20 from each class FIM V AMA go head to head, three races, One in the US one in Europe and one on neutral ground (Australia
So the bench racing will have to continue.
At the end of the day though if all riders in MX1 were fit and all the riders in the Lucas oils Pro Motocross Championship were fit and someone said I could choose one race to go to for the year I would choose a round of the Lucas Oils, as I think a Dungey V RV V Reed V JS V Barcia V Canard race would be a little better than a Cairoli V Desalle V who ever else was on their game that day.
and the AMA Lites V MX2 = well thats an easy one especially with only Hearling's left in MX2 next year, AMA by a mile

It will be interesting at the end of the event taking the top five results from the Euro riders V the AMA based riders (not just the US team ) and then a rest of the World team.
The Euros would have an advantage as more riders that could possibly do well but still interesting.
I don't mind seeing GB do well either as long as they finish behind Aus

I am from a state where Aussie Rules is the game of choice, yep we invented a type of Football that no one else in the world plays so we cant be beaten, just like the Americans
I think the Aussie team might surprise with our forced young line up, Waters really is a great talent, young , well spoken and might just catch the interest from a team or two while over there.
Bopping super talented also but not quite the consistency of Waters, Awesome SX rider as well. Styke will be solid in MX2
On Paper I would have them around 6th or 7th, on par with GB
Considering both Boys have beaten a couple of British Champions this year I am feeling good

I think you will be on a similar level to the Irish team this year (if we don't have to go to that stupid B final again, heart can't take that pressure/adrenalin for another year)

And about Marc, het didn't get paid, but did win some good pricemoney in England. When Ice1 offered him a free ride, he said yes. He sure as hell didn't pay for that.

I look at it this way, Coppins is still a top ten rider in the GP's Both Bopping and Waters beat Coppins during the year, Bopping not so much but Waters was on Par with Copppins all year, if it was not for a shocking second round Waters probably would have one, round two was the only round he missed the podium against a field that included, Coppins, Anderson, Mackenzie, Marmont, Reardon, Jake Moss, Tye SImmonds all riders that are capable or at least have been capable of being top 10 riders in the AMA or World Champs.
Waters unless something goes wrong will be as good as most at the MXoN, Bopping will be solid and Styke would say would be a top 10-15 rider in the 250 class in AMA def top ten in MX2.
Though I am biased I can admit that, maybe not on par with team GB this year overall but certainly they will be better then most people think.

Styke would beat Coldenhoff and Lupino... really?! Look at the top 15 in MX2... it is pretty good. Lots of injuries this year too. He could be in a GP team next year if he is that quick and performs at Lommel.
Anderson back to the UK next year btw.

And everywhere i hear or read the same stories. People are concerned because they think motocross is going the wrong way. They don't like the way YS is changing the Gp's.
The ladies are maybe a nice case ..... they challenged Youthstream and got a result .... they didn'y had to pay anymore to race the Gp's. Next year the ladies had to race together with the mx3 riders ... and see what happens ... the ladies worldchampionship is a joke these days. The top from the past (laier, lancelot, pappenmeier) don't race the Gp's anymore ....
Thats whats Youthstream is doing whit people who don't play there game.
The real issue is you Michael continue to try and spin my original question into something it is not but then have the balls to say "Do you really want to keep this going here."
The answer is NO provided you stop your constant spin control efforts and acknowledge I asked a question and it was nothing more than a question. Repeating myself if I had known whether MX Sports was going to blow off the AMA sanctioning part I wouldn't have asked the question nor would I have asked the question if I had known you were going to get your panties in such a wad over my asking it.
You know the reality is if I had thought about it longer I woldn't even have asked the question. Why is this? Why would MX Sports need to get rid of the AMA in the first place when the "AMA Pro Racing" framework in place at the Nationals are largely MX Sports employees wearing different shirts for the day IE Jeff Canfield who is the AMA Race Director (or some title close to that) on Saturdays but then working for MX Sports the rest of the time.
When/if you accept my original question as it was intended and STOP twisting it into something it never was then I will stop....until then keep it coming as I've got plenty more left in the tank.
