I have a Droid and I find it far superior to the iPhone in almost every way. The iPhone's seem like kid's toys to me now. The iPhone5 looks to be nothing special at all. Overpriced crap, if you ask me. But, everyone has to have one, so they've definitely done their branding right.

Whatever troll. Android sucks but hey whatever floats your boat. I have bought 2 Android devices and took them both back. My family has converted from Droid to iPhone and like it much better.

How could it be overpriced when it's the same price as a Galaxy SIII?

Your logic doesn't make any sense.

Also, nothing special with the iPhone 5? What the fuck did you expect? For it to fly?

They took an already great phone, gave it hardware and design enhancements and are coming out with software enhancements. They are kind of limited to what they can do because of cost and technological advancement.

I just find it amusing when people shit on the iPhone because it's not a brand new revolutionary device like it was when it first came out.
Wow, you need to chill the fuck out. I wasn't shitting on anything.

It's over priced to me because it doesn't seem all that different from the iPhone 4. It's nothing special to me because it doesn't seem all that different from the iPhone 4.

My droid has been nothing but dependable, smooth, and fast running; plus an amazing camera, especially for outdoor shooting. Droids seem more unique and customizable, and from all of my friends and family that I've spoke to that are rather tech savvy, they all agree that the Droid has more computing power than an iPhone.

Excuse me for not jumping on the iPhone bandwagon, but I don't have any urge to get in line with the rest of the Sheeple for a $300 phone.

The fact that you call anyone a troll only further proves what I originally thought about you. I bet you can't wait to get your drivers permit, huh?

hahaha. I'm 39 man.

I could give a shit about Apple's advertising or branding. Doesn't mean shit to me. Could care less about having a cool device.

What is important is that they have made a device that is a pleasure to use. That is what makes me love them and they don't try to throw every feature just so they can say they have it. They wait until they get it right and it provides a good user experience.

Listen, once I find a better device for me I will use it. So far I just haven't found it. Droid and iOS do pretty much the same thing in a kind of similar way. It's just the experience and way you go about doing those things is much more friendly on iOS.

Now quit being a troll. Smile

Well you fooled me with your troll terminology.

I get why people like iPhones, I just don't get why they're so crazed about them. Every news outlet and social media site blows up with each announcement of a new iPhone. And I just don't understand why. To me, the layout and display themes just seem so simplistic and kiddish. I don't find anything on an iPhone that my Droid can't do as good, if not better.

That's where I'm at, we'll leave it there and I'll go back under the bridge I came from. Go study up on your driver's manual!

Troll or Sheep, why do people feel the need to bash others who don't agree with their views? iphone and Droid are both fine phones.

I don't have a smart phone yet, so have no grasp of this 3g/4g/whatever stuff - just trying to get a handle on relative speed differences. But my current cell contract is up.

I am severely restricted in options here in the boonies on Inet providers. Our currently fastest provider uses wireless towers, and running speedtest just now on it showed 1.64Mbps down & 0.33Mbps up. Not exactly 'high speed', but the best I can get. However, there are more cell towers going up here all the time, so I'm really starting to reconsider all this stuff. My kid just got an Iphone 4 this spring, I guess we should do some experimenting - then again if we relied on a cell hotspot at our house, there could be up to 5 users on it at once - we might be right back to where we are now with what we've got?
Those speeds wont cut it then.

Once more towers go up, you'll be able to ditch your home internet connection and costs.

Nothing is lost by waiting. You can always get a lower end Android based phone and you will be happy. It may not have a huge processor but it sounds like you dont need it.

The great thing about an Android is that they are all the same. The hardware may be different but the software is the same. So once you get used to one, you know how to use them all, and its easy to use your gmail account on any Android phone you may get in the future. I plan on keeping my Nexus One even when I upgrade and continuing to use it.

Check the specs, the One x is HTC's flagship model with a 1.5 GHz quad core processor, the internal battery is an 1800mAh and lasts me out the day pretty easily,it gets about 1 hour or more internet use each day and all the usual texts, calls etc,a bit of Video (full 1080p) and pics, along with the usual Android messing around, and playing about with,it seems to have good power management,I was worried at first because of the lack of a removable battery, but no problem, who doesn't charge a smartphone every night anyway? One v is that other model you mean

(Btw the USA version is dual core LTE)

Apologies for the threadjack
I know the specs. But they specs dont really tell a honest story on the battery usage, they never do.

Having a removable battery is useful so I can charge multiple batteries and take them with me and rest easy in knowing I wont need to charge it no matter how much I use the phone. I use the data plan a lot and that typically eats up a battery. So does the wifi hotspot and bluetooth in my car.

I can charge my phone at night but in most cases, but by lunch I need to swap the battery.

Oh I see, sorry,I should've known you'd be up on the specs, the One x probably won't last out for you then if that's the deal,I guess most of these similar handsets out now will be mostly the same, the One x's 4G capability will speed thingsup I guess but I suppose you'll spend the same time using it anyhow? There are some really good mobile battery chargers around though, the Spigen SGP F60q reports upto 3 complete charges

Ive never looked into getting a mobile charger.

Car chargers arent too good for batteries from what Ive found. But I dont know the deal on the mobile chargers. That is an interesting suggestion and it solves the multiple battery issue.

Does your One X have a removable sd card? Does the new iPhone 5?

How do the MSRPs compare?

The main thing that is holding up my decision is the number of cool accessories available to the iPhone. HTC comes out with so many models so fast, no 3rd party is ever going to make stuff for it.

Not so sure about ditching the home broadband jabroni. Sure. 4g is fast. I get about 14mbps down and 12 up on my phone. Way fast enough to ditch Comcast. However, with unlimited plans disappearing and overstauration of networks, you are going to see tiers being created for speed and capacity. You will burn through 2GB/month quick if you have Netflix. That being said. I absolutely love my galaxy s3. It is better than the 4s in every way imo, and judging from the 5's features I will not sell it and get the iPhone 5 like I planned to. The iPhone is a good platform, but as consumers we are not allowed to point out any flaw with its perceived perfection. It's like the fanboys who are rabid about one gaming console over another. We will see what happens. Apple choosed the closed system in the 80's while windows chose the open hardware ecosystem. It's pc vs mac all over again

I'll be honest though-I am digging the new Nokia Lumia 920 coming out and the Windows 8 on it (Hate it on the desktop though). Something much different and looks pretty nice. Doubt I would switch but if I did I would probably go there.

The 5 will get our i-dollars due to its larger screen size and usability...

It's as simple as that.

As to how long a battery lasts? I don't leave stupid apps runnin in the background when I don't need'em. My i does everything from location/GPS, e-mail inc. Solid-works attachments, browsing, video, music & even Siri's bullshit...Everyday. I've seen the "red" side of my battery maybe 3 times the entire time I've had it (1 yr).

Should the i-5 have given us more in order to be called a "5"?

Yup.

I suppose it depends what extra stuff you want, the Android platform shares a lot,I have all the regular car accessories,I use it as a sat-nav with its turn by turn navigation and now have a DAB radio docking station at home,of I've been in a tight spot I've used my missus car/home charger for her Raspberry

Neither have an SD card, this is the first HTC I've had without it,storage isn't a problem as it has 32gb,I plugged it into the laptop and synced it s all my stuff from my old HTC is there,I prefer having a card but I guess I'll get used to it,
I run a battery saver app that shuts down things you don't need running in the background as TeamGreen mentions too

Mixed reviews here on the iphone 5,looks like if you have a 4s its not worth the change, the 4s is a great phone afterall, the new one"s screen is taller although not wider, its slimmer and lighter and faster, strangely they've not got NFC which is rolling out on all the latest phones, contactless payment is taking off here with phones and credit/debit cards.

Maybe the very quiet launch reflects the lack of anything groundbreaking,I'm not particularly anti-Apple but aside from it being very closed shop,I prefer the way Android works and HTC Sense is superb,I think Jellybean is out very soon too for Android btw

VERY VERY VERY good assessment.

Apple's closed loop system may come back and bite them in the ass again. But I doubt it. It is America, we are suckers for marketing schemes. They know that and work it to perfection.

As for ditching home internet, yeah if you use Netflix it would not be smart. That is why I said that it wouldnt be good for gaming.

My last unlimited plan gave me 5 GB a month. That was the first time I ever had a limit. Previously I had 3G unlimited.

Now days they are tightening that up even more I guess. They never thought we'd be using so much data on our phones. I currently only get 1GB on my phone here in Europe, but my plan is only 15 bux a month. Similar prepaid plans in America are looking to be more expensive for when we come back.

For my current home setup I got a WiFi USB stick as well, that plan comes with 10GB a month. Me and my chic burn thru that in about 10 days and then they slow it down to 32kbps. Or at least, they are supposed to. Instead it gets slowed down like 5kbps. I would think that is fraud but I dunno.

Are they putting caps on home internet connections yet?

Windows? I cant believe that any one would still use that mobile OS.

I thought it was great too until I got a Android based system.

I'll be glad when they die to. Those fuckers build everything with the intentions of it breaking or needing some software patch that never works anyways.

Every HP product Ive ever owned was a mistake. And judging from the forums Ive read with other consumers of the exact same products, everyone has had the same issues.

Never again will I buy a HP product. Ever.

iPhone battery (on the 4's) seem to last forever.

With my HTC's, it never had anything to do with apps running in the background. Just heavy internet usage.

I can sit on the iPhone all day and it lasts. Im not sure what they figured out that HTC doesnt, but I already described my battery experiences with HTC and it is pretty poor. I stick with them though because their product is A+ in all other regards. They give the consumer exactly what they want and try to max out every hardware feature they can.

Im not going to go into the list of accessories for the iPhone. Its that extensive and universal. The range of stuff is mind boggling.

Whereas with HTC, they come out with new phones too quickly. That is great for the phone junkie that upgrades every 3 months. But not me.

I dont know what people who are giving the mixed reviews on the iPhone expect. It was never going to brew coffee and toast bread. It got a CPU upgrade, a camera upgrade, and chassis upgrade, and due to the new CPU, a soon to hit OS upgrade.

It was a solid package that got cleaned up. Worth the high price tag? Probably not. Worth the cheap upgrade price if you are due? I would think so.

Is the HTC One not available in the USA? What are the price's of unlocked iPhone 5's going for these days?

Both the One S and the iPhone 5 work anywhere (Europe & USA) right? There are no region specific models correct?

Im leaning towards the HTC. But the ease of sync with my MacBook my push me to the iPhone 5. I have Android apps that currently make syncing music and podcasts a breeze with iTunes. But the ease of sync with pics and iPhoto cannot be duplicated with Android at the moment. Maybe there is a decent Android to iPhoto sync app that is out, but I havent found it. Either way, Im just getting tired of the process that syncing entails when I just watch my chic plug her iPad or iPhone in and wala, its is done with ease.
9/17/2012 3:49am
After comparing the two phones..... iPhone 5 vs HTC One S.... here is what I found:

Price: iPhone 5 is going for like $1000 right now. Ridiculous. HTC One can be bought for $500 ..... HTC

OS: iOS vs Android is a silly debate. They both work great. Both super user friendly. iOS has better app support (for now) but Androids is just fine (they just got Mad Skills MX). I give Android the edge here due to it being rootable. That wont matter to most people but it should. It makes your phone do what it should have been capable of out of the box, and give the user flexibility that Apple would NEVER allow...... HTC

Networks: iPhone has HTC stomped. More bands available and truly 4G capable. Im sure HTC has a new model right around the corner that will be 4G ready but it will also be at a much higher price tag ($800 range when new)....... Apple

Apps: Like said before, Apples apps store used to have a big edge, not so much anymore. I appreciate that the iPhone usually doesnt come with a bunch of stupid built in apps that I cannot remove, whereas the Android always comes with crap I dont want. Rooting solves that problem though. But for the average consumer, that can be a pain. Google finally released an official YouTube app for iOS and a Map app is soon to follow since Apple dropped Google officially for their new iOS. If Google doesnt make a Map app for the iPhone, this may be a deal breaker for me. A Google exec has said an app is on the way. ........ so this category is a wash for me based on that.

Hardware: CPU looks to give HTC the advantage. Both are dual cores, Apples is a 1.2, HTC is a 1.5.... I was under the impression the Apple was going to get a quad core. I guess not. But according to seemingly independent tests, the iPhone's CPU is faster than even some quad core CPUs and HTC's 1.5ghz........ Apple apparently.

http://www.redmondpie.com/first-iphone-5-benchmark-test-reveals-dual-co… .

Connectivity: Both have HDMI out capability. Bonus points for the HTC if it still comes with the HDMI output cable. Apples will be sold separately. Plus, AirPlay on Apple works pretty good so the cable isnt really needed. ......This category is a wash.

Memory: Once again, iPhone dominates in this category. This is why having a removable sdCard was so important to the HTC products....... Apple

Accessories: iPhone again. HTC will never be able to compete in this category........ Apple

Function: HTC products always work. There is always the chance that the new iPhone has some basic BS flaw like not being able to make a decent call. ....... Gotta figure HTC for now.

When I look at all that stuff objectively, the iPhone is the better piece. The only thing that would deter me is the price. And if HTC makes a new release soon, it will be dang near priced at the iPhone or right below it. Im probably going to go iPhone. Syncability with my MacBook and network capabilities (I travel a lot) are the key points.

I just looked up the price of the iPhone 5.

Unlocked from the factory is $850 for the 64GB & $650 for the 16GB

That now just made the decision easy for me. I will feel guilty making the purchase, due to the high suicide rate at the iPhone factory due to the working conditions. But all phones with their lithium batteries are a product of some mass human atrocities so who am I kidding.

It gets funnier as it goes.

Its funny because it is so true. So fucking true.

And it can be applied to so many different topics.

I'm not so sure I would go that far and say PC is on the way out. I don't see myself issuing Purchase Orders and preparing financial statements from a phone. PC will still be used for work.
Yes the PC is on the way out, I use my iPhone for everything (via home), at work I use my boss' pc, at home I haven't touched my lap top in months. I can run my entire company from my iPhone, take credit cards, look at my bank financials, all of it. I tried to use a friends blackberry the other day, he asked me to text his wife while he was driving, took me forever and I kept swiping the screen to get it to work lol, it's a dinosaur, the blackberry that is and forget a flip phone I'd kill it within 10 mins.
