Is he still trying to chase 72?

What happens if he has another Stewhurt year?

How many years is he signing with Suzuki?

When is the endgame?

Fast class. Dungey, Reed, RV, not to mention Canard and Barcia.

If he makes it past the 5th round I'd be surprised. He will drop out due to "injury".

I think the 72 wins is far from achieving now (unless we start seeing sprinklers and look back scrubs again and again). I bet at this point, James would want to hold that #1 plate again rather than saying he has 73+ SX wins. Plus it pays to win championships.

I'm sure he's just focused on being healthy more than anything else at this point. Hell, it might be hard enough to make it into the main with the competition there will be (barring any off season injuries).

I know at the beginning of the summer it was mentioned a multi-year contract and with the option that if he want to stay he could and end his career with Suzuki (save the sarcasm, we've all heard it before)

James is going to have a way better year in 2013 than he's had in 3 years since 2009, mark my words. 2013 is a year of rebirth for JS7 and I'm very excited for him.

Really? You don't think he brings anything of value to the sport? Or do you not think anybody is worth a shit no matter what they can do/have done or hope to do? Or do you just hate Stewart for some particular reason? He never invited you to ride at his compound or he didn't sign your autograph in the right spot or he smiles to big and talks to loud. What gives?

James is just going to race and finish top 5 with some wins and some losses and maybe a spectacular crash or two. I think the sun has set on his domination. I could be wrong. I would love to be surprised.

Unfortunately I think he will crash out again just like this year and then hang up his boots for good. I'd love to be proved wrong and have him come out and be right in the hunt with one of the most stacked classes in history, but given his last year I just don't see it happening (regardless of bike).

If I had Stewart's ear, I suggest he return his suspension settings back to the ones Dungey was running when the Suzuki was his. It used to be the best handling bike on the track ... now its knifing and tucking and kicking and bucking and flipping and .....

I hope that he gets it together. We all should have lower expectations for him now. Look at Windham, if he podiums we're pumped, if he gets 8th we're still pumped. The similarity is that they are both great riders to watch and when they lose we shouldn't spew haterade.

Big JS7 fan, but no way he gets 72.

2013 is a big year for Stewart. Canard too. I'm scared for them both. Going into 2012, I felt like each of them could potentially be only a big crash or bad season away from hanging it up. Sadly, both those things happened, and now the anticipation begins anew.

Hope they both show up to the MEC and kill it. Ease my mind before the season starts.

I'm hopeful that the Suzuki will help Stewart. 2011 was up and down, but he was still James Stewart, still had a shot at the win every time he lined up. I don't think JS fans thought it could get any worse than that - I know I didn't - but now we know different. This year it was like it wasn't even Bubba out there, like it was just some random black guy (even his teeth were different!), and every time they put the camera on him during a race I instinctually wanted to cover my eyes. For me, even a return to his 2011 form would be cause for celebration. At least then he could lead a race, even if he couldn't finish it. THAT'S Bubba.

If James can adapt to battling with the top 5, he has a good shot at the title. His early 125/250f years (especially outdoors) where he dropped the field, did not prepare him well for what he's up against now.

Don't bother. I feel pretty privaledged to have seen Bubba's career from start to whenever he decides to hang it up. If feels like it was just yesterday I was a teen watching a Fox vid wondering, "who the hell is Deedee Burns?" LOL! As much as we will never see another RC, we will never see another James I believe. I brought it up today, I think allot of fans prob feel James has squandered his talent even if he's a mult-time champion. Until any of us has walked a mile in James shoes, we don't know what he's faced. Racing since he could walk, being the breadwinner for his whole family, the first black motocross champion, etc. I will miss James when he retires, I think even the hater's will too. I don't think he's done either. The James I saw at Hangtown and Freestone for sure could win the 2013 SX title.

Yeah but all he had to deal with was RC. I guess Reed too but he handled him most of the time up to 2010. I think RC brought out the best in James. The battles in 2006 and 2007 between those two outdoors are all-time. Just an opinion but I think after RC retired, he probably thought it was gonna be a walk and for a couple seasons it was. But without that carrot dangling it front of him, in the form of a competitor, he never progressed. Now the new blood is on him and he's pushing the envelope too much.

C'mon I wasn't slighting RC at all. Of course he was the biggest challenge James, or anyone for that matter, faced. But by all rights it should have been smooth sailing after that. 2008 outdoors and 2009 SX he was great, riding within himself with few get offs. But an injury in 2010 and all the sudden, he's got not one but 3 guys to deal with

His goal honestly should be to finish every race this season. Canard's as well. We all know that's not Stewart's style though, so hopefully he can manage to at least finish most races. It's crazy to think that in his entire career he's never finished every race in a season.

Yeah it seems like a simple strategy but just stay on the bike. Back it down to 75-80% if you get a bad start and even then he's got anyone out of the top 5 covered. Take a 5th if that's what's there. Canard is my wild card this year, I have no clue what to expect and there hasn't been any vids of him riding.

+1

Love him or hate him it's great for our sport for James to be out there and be healthy. We all know what he does when he is healthy---->WIN. He grew up with that RC mentality so winning is all that's acceptable, unfortunately RV grew up the same way, then you have REED, DUNGEY, CANARD, and the rest that have had that mentality beat into their head for years on end now....each I'm sure hungry for success again in their own way, not to mention the newcomers to the class for 2013. I really hope they all can stay healthy and stay in it to the end of both seasons come next year

Call this speculation if you want too.......and we can come back to this thread in May 2013.......

Truth is this........James is a wildcard to win any one "single " event.......he has the speed to do it if the stars line up right. A championship I think is out of the question right now or any time in the future.....as that boat has sailed.

Again.....he's a great wildcard on any given night......and I think that's what most people think now days. But consistency is what win championships.......James hasn't shown any of that in quite a few years ( 2008 outdoors ).

There will be NO "rebirth" as one poster said above........it'll be hit and miss for him , from here on out. BUT.....I am sure glad as hell he'll be on a bike he's comfortable on and watching him haul ass......because he's ALWAYS a pleasure to watch!
