You guys see the M. Alessi interview at Transworld? Dude says he can't remember racing at Red Bud AND Thunder Valley. He said: "The last thing that I remember was testing and training at Mammoth. That's the last thing I really remember. Everything is pretty foggy from the last two or three weeks."

Now that's pretty serious. And yet, he's talking about racing at Millville. Good move, or should he sit out some more?

Yeah, it does seem like he's bouncing back pretty quickly. I guess he had it checked out. I know Broc Hepler had a serious concussion and they pretty much bed rested him.

All he has to remember is the throttle is on the right. I say let him race.

Speaking of Hepler, shouldn't he be coming back soon? It does seem like MA is jumping the gun a little on getting back. Whats to prove by doing that? The only thing I can see is bouncing back to try and secure a Des Nations spot. It isn't worth your health.

Its his job and if he wants to come back to his job as soon as possible thats his choice. Whats wrong with that?

Because a concussion is not a knee injury or a shoulder injury or any other muscle/bone-related sports injury that professional athletes often deal with. He has admitted to losing a significant amount of memory... most of the last month! That means his brain took a heck of a shot inside his skull at Red Bud, and it may need more time to heal.

That said, I am sure he's got great medical advice and is taking it seriously.

I just figure the AMA would ask for a release letter from a doctor if they or Doc Bodnar or Roger D or his trainer or his Dad or whoever it may be feel he is coming back too soon. Im sure the Alessis have been in this situation before and like you said have great medical advice and know what to do.

Mike broke a collarbone in SX and sat out about 3 months

Now he wants to come back this quickly from a severe concussion and several broken bones?

His bell still may be ringing a little bit.

Unreal, and scary. To bruise a brain that bad...I wonder how close to death or a coma that is. If he was my kid, he'd be off the bike for the year.

Kalisch, some days I just sit there and stare at your avitars.

thing about concussions is they DONT heal.

first one i ever got was while racing, got hit straight in the back of the head by the nose of the jetski behind me. i could barley walk once back on the beach.

for those who've never had one, its definitly not like any other injury ive ever had (4 broken collar bones, 2x broken back, multiple bones in each hand and foot multiple times). its not a case of where the pain goes away or if your tuff you play through it. the symptoms linger for a while and even when they are gone, youre still not better yet, if ever.

i was in a daze for several weeks. would catch myself starring off into the distance, just lose 15-20 minutes at a time. was extremely slow to react in coversations and problem solving.

but my dumbass being new to this sort of thing thought i could "play thru it". was back on the water within 10 days and was a mess. i had no balance whatsoever. and every wreck just made it worse til a get-off at 60mph landing into the face of a 4 foot swell pretty much knocked me out, and left me floating in the water worse than from the original incident.

it took several more weeks for me to recover. concussions are a bruising of the brain, which doesnt have the ability to heal itself, and re-concussing is extrememly likely if you come back too soon. as i did in my case.

im no doctor but ive spent more than enuff time with them. im inclined to think this is waaay too soon for mike alessi to be coming back. especially considering such dramatic memory loss. just outta curiousity, i would really love to hear the doctors explanation on this.

Crazy move. He was out cold for at least two or three minutes - he should be thinking about maybe - MAYBE - coming back for the MXDN. MAYBE.

I agree he is coming back way too soon. He has no chance at the title now and there is no sense risking turning yourself into a vegetable. Come back stronger and faster in January.

If he can't remember a few weeks, then that was a really bad one and it seems like it's much too soon to come back.

The last one I had was really bad. I was out cold for about 2 minutes and my memory wasn't affected that bad. I only lost about a day.

wow, that sounds like a gnarly concussion...hope he pays attention to it and lays off racing for a while....

Multiple concussions whacked the NHL career of Eric Lindros a few years back.

Tony said, "100%" and I hope they will stay with that.

He has turned himself into a legitimate title contender. It's not going to happen this year so let it go. Get healthy and come back strong and smart.

Mikey, no one worth anything will be upset that you take care of yourself with this matter, any fan that say's race too early could care less about you and your future... being an x-rider myself... I say do the right thing on this one! All the best kid. JimmyC :-)

x2 i know we're not DR.'s here but the risk of re-injury is too great right now. i dont know if you can reinjure your brain on a BIG G-out or a hard flat land but like has been stated why take the chance esp if you not in a close title fight. come back stronger and faster come SX time just like he did when he got injured during SX....

And prior to that his younger brother Brett..

Maybe the Lindros's have soft heads?

Please excuse me if I ramble. I had wrist reconstruction surgery yesterday and I am all jacked up on "Oxycodone"!!

Well, if a guy wants to be out racing and take chances with himself that is on him. The biggest problem I have is that he is out there with 39 other people. If he were to black out or anything like that and have an accident that could potentially hurt someone else is my issue with it. Situations like Mikes are decisions I think an approving authority should make.

I'll be the first to admit that when I was reading that people were saying this title belongs to Alessi that I laughed my ass off. I have to give it to him. He is riding like a champion this year. I think that "Team Suzuki" is the best thing that could have ever happened to Mike. Actually, I should say that Roger Decoster is the best thing that could have happened to him. It was best for Mike to be with a manager that would take him over and get him away from his dad. Roger does not take shit from anyone or let anyone try and run him or his team. I think if Mike were at Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki you would see a lot more of Tony than we do now. I am proud of Mikey and have a new found respect for him. I hope he does not make a decision to try and come back to fast.

IMO, Mike knows the title is out of his grasp, but I think he may still be trying to find a way to the MXDN for Team USA. Remember, he has been cheated out on that once or twice already. Although I know that people are saying "Team USA" has already been picked, but I have not seen any press releases yet. AND, you never know, Ferry is riding like a mad man. Mikey could be preparing himself JUST IN CASE someone on the team gets hurt before the MXDN.

Just my 2 cents....I COULD BE completely wrong. It's just that logically I can't see any other reason why Mike would be in a hurry or risk hurting himself further.
