Some extremely powerful "ownage" on some of those race days by certain riders!
I think any time a rider has been injured or away, they're looking to make a statement. RC at the 2004 Hangtown National springs to mind and again in 2005 after he'd first moved to the RMZ 450 for outdoors. Both times he looked mildly vulnerable coming in but not once the dust had settled.
James Stewart 2012 opening National this year. That 1-1 was a pretty big statement at the the time.
I agree with Team Green, even though I was to young to remember, with Magoo doing what he did.
And yes to Doug Henry, he is the baddest MF'er for sure!
Yes Evert passing Stewart was pretty cool too. So was watching RV as a rookie beat AC and CP that day as well.
Bubba letting Reed go by then passing him at Unidilla
MC giving JS a love tap off the track on the start
Pit Row
Kdub dominated that race after Everts called out the Americans for not wanting to race
Also, after 10 long, hard fought years, Lackey's 500 world championship was pretty dang sweet, again the year was "82"
Talk about perseverance!
Everts winning all three classes at Ernee, the last round of the year.
Wait...no. RV coming back from a terrible leg injury in '10 to win A1, running down the FMOTP at Phoenix, running down everyone at LA, somehow getting the fastest lap at Vegas (without quading?) when he didn't even have to while everyone was watching the leaders, and then winning the SX championship against basically the toughest competition ever. Hanging tough through outdoors and then stepping it up when he had to get shit done, going 1-1 at Steel City (esp. that moto 1 win) and then following Dungey and passing him in moto 1 at the freaky-fast Pala when he didn't need to. Then waxing foos at the MXdN. Then waxing foos at A1 this year and becoming the first rider since RC to defend a 450 championship, becoming in the process the most convincing FMOTP since Stewart in '09. And then losing Best Action Sports Athlete to Shaun White.
I'm not sure which statement is best.
Also, Dungey winning A1 2010, letting Stewart know that life was about to get a whole lot harder for him. Dungey's first win on the KTM. Reed's first win for TwoTwo. Bubba getting off the Yam and immediately going 1-1. Villopoto winning Seattle and Vegas '09. Any time we've sent a 2nd tier rider to the MXdN and still got the job done (Tedesco and Short come to mind). Dungey getting knocked down by Weimer at SLC, then zipping back by him on his way to a win. Tomac's win at his first race (a sign of things to come many years in the future).
I think the biggest changing of the guard ever is the end of the Kings SX reign to RC.
Another shot heard around the world, Marty Moates, USGP.
Bunch of young Team Honda riders win MXdN, the MX world shifts.
Doug Henry wins a SX, on a frigging 4 stroke!
Today, KTM is on top of the MX world, a little Austrian company taking down the big four like they are nothing!
I'm a KTM fan, I'll take.................................Marty Moates.
Jim Pomeroy winning at the opening round of the 1973 FIM World Championships in Sabadell, Spain.
