Well, I don't know this exact scenario... But my guess is maybe it was in trade for advertising in the magazine.

But yes...I know the crew, and see them often, I stand by them.

But at the same time, appreciate your view point.

You must be in the jersey lettering business, huh? Sound like sour grapes to me, Decal Works beat you to the pre-emptive ass kiss.

Decal Works has been around a long time and has a good history so MXA probably feels comfy with recommending them- no big deal.

They report the wrong facts all the time like R.C not knowing how to set up his bike and the year R.C was hurt and did not race the MXDN they reported he would. How do you trust a magazine that is never telling the truth? I'm sorry if you support him because you are his friend but if you take the blinders off you will see how biased they are.

Haha sounds like pretty sour grapes out of you. The letter asked a question, "Where can I get jersey lettering done?" They answered DeCal Works. Is that a wrong answer? Did you honestly expect them to list every little dinky operation that has ever screened a number?

You sound bitter.

Oh wait .... you ride Zooks. I understand completely and sympathize.

Hey, no one said MXA was perfect but they are about the only mag that will call a mfgr out if they find something bogus on a bike or product. The other mags are too chicken to say anything bad about a bike or product.

Not in the jersey lettering business at all. I just think if someone asked a magazine that has the reputation that MXA has they would give more then one solution. There are a bunch of companies that are reputable. 500 Guy arent you sponsored by decal in some way? Ive seen they have stickers for you. As i said earlier, at the time decal didnt even offer jersey lettering, so yes 500guy, Decal was the wrong answer.
If somebody wrote in asking what kind of bike they should buy, you would be okay with them saying Husaberg? Theres plenty of companies that make bikes, im sure theyre all the same. Or asking what helmet to get, if Zeus flew them to a race would they be the correct answer?

Curious but why no mention of Dirt Rider? They have the tech thing down and some good personalities and writing. Not the place to get your "people" news but they have everything else. And I know they aren't moto only but there is mostly moto content.

Dirt rider is a good magazine. But not enough Motocross. Jimmy Lewis the editor, is also a friend. He used to be the off-road editor at Cycle World, replaced by Ryan Dudek.

I just have a problem with the internet edition...so for that reason I can't comment interent wise.

I am racing with Jimmy, Saturday night, I will speak to him regarding the internet access, or is it just my computer ?

Opps...somebody wanna get that for me ?

Wrong Dude, DeCal has been doing jersey lettering for many years.

Sour grapes.

Oh hell yes Decal Sponsors me and I'm friends with the guy's there.
Anyone asks me where to get a Jersey Printed , decals, or Graphics where else would I send them ?

Lets see Decal advertises in MXA , someone asks Where do I get a Jersey Printed ?

MXA say's Decal Works of course and you cry foul.

That said : you still sound just like an uninformed guy who is pissed off.

I do like MXA though, been reading that rag since the 70s.
As I understand it, that's because they gave a scathing review on a RM one year. Suzuki's answer was to not send MXA bikes to test...

Although RX is a bit "People Magazine" orientated, I think it's still a good read, and for the most part I do trust MXA to call it like they see it. Dirt rider has some good info. However, nobody comes close to Dirt Bike during Super Hunkey's reign.

One thing that's grossly missing from MX magazines is real tech. Not the crap that 13 year olds like reading, but real technical information. How about an ongoing series of articles discussing the various advantages and disadvantages of different Ti metalurgy's for valves or exhausts? Maybe set up a shock dyno and test out different shim stacks, then use graphs to explain how different leverage ratios affect the rear wheels ability to follow the ground. Put some frames into a "vice" and test out the various levels of flex in different planes. Spend 3 issues discussing squish, compression, and flame fronts, etc, etc, etc. Those kinds of issues are worth saving, since you might need to refer back to them 4 years from now when you're thinking of changing the master cylinder in order to alter the hydraulic leverage ratio.
You have to be kidding...it is an MX magazine, not an engineering journal. If you are looking for that stuff, you need to subscribe to IJMEE.

First off I think MXA is the best, BUT I did find it odd that in the same issue ( july 2007 ) it only gave DeCal's name when asked about jersey lettering, it also did a write up on DeCal sending them to the Dallas SX VIP style.

Thank you! That was the article I was talking about.

Not the whole damn magazine, but at least a few pages every month that would appeal to those with an IQ higher than room temp. There isn't anything in any of the current MX rags that my 9 year old son doesn't understand, or at least couldn't understand with 30 seconds of explanation.

Am I the only one that thinks that a tire test should include durometer readings, actual weight, and a reading that would measure the sidewall stiffness? I think a test on chains would be worthwhile, and that it should include weight, actual tested tensile strength, coefficient of friction/HP loss, tests on the hardness scale, and even a measurement of the distance between links to check for quality control, and ability to shed mud. Yes, it can include the usual bullshit "the gold plating makes our bike look great, and we sure like how it requires less maintenance than the stock chain that's as strong as a rubber band."

I'm not suggesting that the articles be written like a SAE paper (that would be boring as shit), but real information is grossly overlooked in favor worthless fluff (which is what everyone here is complaining about).

So, if you deal with a certain shop and they give you a discount. Then someone ask you for a place to get some gear and you refer them to that shop, you are a piece of shit.

I subscribe to and read MXA, Dirt Bike, Dirt Rider, and RacerX (MXA and Dirt Bike since the 70's). Each one of them has things that I like and things that I'm not very interested in every month. Just read what interests me and give the mags to my grandsons. What more could you want?
