We are drag racing in Denver in a couple weeks and a couple of my teamates and I are going to bring our bikes along. We are planning on riding Thunder Valley Wed and Thurs since its right by the dragstrip. I ride a 11 kx250f, and need to know if the fuel injection will compensate for the altitude? Or is there something else I have to do to make up for the lack of air? Thanks

yes FI will compensate, your bike will be a lot less snappy though.

Come up a couple thousand more feet. It'll feel like you're on a 250f

Probably best to get yourself acclimated to the altitude for a day or so before you get on the track too; if you don't pace yourself it could ruin your whole trip. Have fun!

I would suggest taking it very easy the 1st day of riding. Altitude sickness is nothing to play with, let alone when its 100 degrees out there. Be sure to keep hydrated too. Its ridiculously hot lately haha.Have fun at Bandimere

How is the track at Berthoud these days? Used to be a favorite of mine. But that was a looong time ago.

They prep Thunder Valley on Wednesday's so I would plan on riding that day for sure. Thursday may be hit or miss. Berthoud usually preps on Thursdays. Call them at 303-477-6979 to find out. IMI Motorsports in Erie has been doing a good job prepping their track and it's a fun layout. Call them at 303-286-1813. Cheers! And have fun!

I doubt you will get altitude sickness at 6000'. If your in reasonably good shape you should do fine.

From what I have heard, Berthoud hasnt been prepping until like 4 pm on "prep days" so may bot be great, and they require a membership I believe as well.

HB, Are you up there for the mile high nationals? I may have to head up there this year.

Thunder Valley isn't the most friendly to smaller bikes. No offense intended. The track is relatively tight/small and is built on the side of a hill. If you have time, you might want to drive an extra hour up I-25 to Berthoud. They have a spread out track with not a lot of elevation changes, their dirt, when tilled, isn't near as soft as Thunder Valley (which will soak up the power, big time), and they have a wider variety of tracks to choose from.
