A little part of me died when I showed up to Red Bud some years ago and the triple-90 degree right turn to-double double was taken out. I stood at that triple every year since '86.

thats an old bridge abutment or tower base (can't remember exactly) but i used to stand on it back in the day during the pro motos when i was wrenching for my guy. I could see most of east side of track from there.

i would guess by that photo you circled exactly why it was removed. after they removed it, it changed the whole dynamic feel of that corner. felt strange after being there for so many years.

btw, thats second/third corner before downhill ski jump.

yes he did, he had a bet with his mechanic that he wouldn't hit it on the very first lap of practice! can't remember who his mechanic was but he wore a skirt for the rest of the day.
