Ryan Villopoto said in the commentary box with Paul Malin today at the Belgium GP that he and his wife has talked about moving to Europe an race the GP in the future.

He was thinking 2 or 3 more years in the US before moving over as a top Us contender wich he mentioned has never been done before.

Hoepfully he will come over earlier and it would be a another boost of popularity for the World Championship.

That would be totally cool and I really hope his career goes the way he wants so he could consider it. It would definitely set him apart from RC, Dungey, Stewart et al.

Very excited when I heard that. I hope that he can come before 3 years though - there's no point trying to do it when he's past it.

i doubt he will be here before 3 years, if he says 3 years there will be a reason behind it - sponsors etc...

also in 3 years i highly doubt he will be 'past it' as he will only be 26 by then, just look at reed

I think it would be cool... It would be like alot of NBA players have done throughout time after their career is done or nearly done here, go over & get the experience of living overseas, broaden your horizons & make a ton of money while doing it... plus it would set his legacy apart from everyone elses, personally if I was in RV's shoes I would do it in a heartbeat

Exactly.

Im a big fan of RV though. I would love him or any of the top US based guys to come and do a season or two, but just like when Bubba mentioned doing some GP's, its just a way of endearing himself to the fans.

Haven't heard RV talk about this, but I was talking with someone in the pits last weekend who suggested that he thought Ryan would likely ride a couple more years, and then be done here in the U.S. If he's considering a year in Europe after that? More power to him.

He is working on his new deal. Throwing in the idea that he's potentially interested in racing outside the U.S. somewhere down the line can't hurt.

As long as he's still healthy (and training with Aldon), there's no doubt he'll still be competitive. I did hear that he's been non-stop at his training program, and is progressing nicely on his knee rehab.

Three years is a long time.

As I say, I like RV and have a huge amount of respect for him, I just don't think he'll end up coming over. I would LOVE to be proved wrong though!!!

He's told me a few times that he's getting out early while he can and when he has enough money to be satisfied but those close to him say no way, he goes bonkers when he's not racing (or hurt like now- the texts he sends & calls he makes to myself and others is comical) so they think he'll be around a while. He's now missed good portions of three years as well, keep that in mind.

There's no way I see him ever doing the GP's...maybe I'm wrong but can't see it. However Wilson has said it to me and to others enough that I could see him going over at some point.

If he was paid a lot better I think he would. Would you move to America for a huge cut in salary? Would I move to Britain for a huge cut in salary. But if it was a huge increase, both of us would consider it even if it was temporary for a few years. But it does seem like a PR move. Thing is, I wouldn't say that unless I was truly considering it because it would be a lie.

2nd time he's said it,I know it's been under similar circumstances but who knows?? I'd like to think that it's a possibility,he'd still be at top level and so would the guys over here

A lot would probably depend on how his next couple of seasons go of course,some want diferrent things out of life like seeing the world and experiencing diferrent things,there are guys that love the numbers though,how many wins they notch up,how many Titles they have etc

rv could be being very smart about all this.

in 2/3 years he will still be a young man, with a young wife and at the minute anyway, no dependants (kids).

now i know one of my big regrets when i was younger was not going traveling, i dont mean having a holiday every year, but taking a year out to see the world. what better way than taking a year vacation, which just happens to include riding your dirtbike every other weekend in different countries round the world and i would imagine getting a decent paypacket for his troubles.

I think it's a neat idea for him to kick around.
He seems like the adventurous type and it might be a cool & successful experience/venture for him.

Well, granted it's way old school, but Lackey and Pomeroy definitely were at the top of their games here when they left for Europe. But in the SX era, RV is correct, assuming he's still at the top of his game and a contender 3 or more years from now.


Hard to tell what's going to be going on in any of the three premiere series, or with the oem's, in three years

Exactly! it amazes me that more top american riders dont have that mentality- any top 10 ama rider would easily be able to get a decent, well paid gp ride- why not take advantage of the fact you have the talent to allow you to be able to travel the world and get paid for it?! i suppose its not really 'the american way' - but there is a world outside the USA, you never know, if you go and see it you might actually be interested in the different cultures/ way of life in different countries.
