What bikes did you guys sport back in the day? I started out on Schwinn's had a Predator, and another Schwinn that was red with yellow Tuff 2 mags. Then I got a Redline then the freestyle days came around. I picked up a GT. Wanted a Hutch trickstar but couldn't get my parents to pull the trigger. My favs though were a PK Ripper and a Blazer which at the time were pretty rare. I also had a Mongoose in the shed that had the steal honeycomb mags. My buddy bought a Pink Trickstar off Ebay a couple years back. It hangs in his living room. Anyone remember the Quad Angle and the Torkers? Totally rad shit back in the day.

Around 1972 through 74 I built a Webco framed BMXer from parts ordered through the mail, cut grass to get the money, bike cost me 172.00. i was like 9 or 10 years old. It had a Tuff wheel on the front which broke in no time. Me and a buddy would order catalogs and put them in big binders, anyway my Dad made me get some stuff out of his house the other day and there they were, so i have a some cool very old school Catalogs, Redline, Webco etc if anyone is interested i will scan them.

Looked about like this even had that same neck, broke it pretty quick also. I still have the frame, it's probably shot from jumping it into the lake.

In the 70s I was very fortunate to grow up hanging out at the shop Wheels N' Things. I practically lived at that shop and behind it riding all the jumps everyone made out there. Everything I did was about BMX. I also raced at Rancho, Kearny and at the Velodrome.

I won an orange Huffy in some drug store contest in like 1975.

Beat that piece of junk for two years and then I moved on to an early '77 Cycle Pro Foiler. Wish I still had this one. It had one of those Redline prototype stems, prototype cutout dropout redline forks, round Arai 7bs, philwood hubs, center pull brake. Was the shop owner's bike.

Once that got stolen, I got a 1978 Redline MX-II and had it for so many years until a tweaker borrowed, kept it and sold it.

I first had a Ross Snapper...I know pretty lame, then moved on to a Mongoose. It's a shame Mongoose is a department store brand now.

I had a bitchen Race Inc. that i snapped in half and skidded on my face. Still one of my fav frames right up there w/ a PK. The badass fat welds are sick, and mine was bare alumi and would spent hours buffing it out.

I still have awesome dreams riding my BMX bike and my skateboard, but i can never just stop, when i do, i have to sit down, its a trip, i dont think i have ever had a dream where i was in a chair, even after all these years.

Ya buncha rich bastards! I had a Huffy Pro Lightning that I got for my 11th birthday. It was a pretty tough bike, I went through a half dozen sets of wheels before I finally cracked the frame.

Mongoose mini for first bike, I'm # 164

Then my Dad and I build a JMC from ground up, National # 17 by then, we were racing 3 times a week to keep me out of trouble.

When I first started racing in the 80's I had a Kuwahara that was a pretty awesome bike. After a while I got a sponsorship through a local bike shop and was given a really good deal for GT's. I think I had the GT Power Series with all the GT crap on it......3 piece cranks, gooseneck, etc..... I loved the GT bikes and my main goal back then was to get some type of support through GT....which I ended up doing. Now over 20 years later we help out Gary Turner with his drag racing......it's a small world.

started racing on bikes my neighborhood friends and i put together after saving up, i actually won some races on a built up dyno comp : p i spent a good portion of my youth with my mother in long island, and my dad had the dirt bikes upstate, so i raced bmx to fill the gap.

after my mom realized how good i was getting, she bought me this for my birthday:

a week later it was stolen when i rode it to get my haircut, i remember being so afraid to go home, and sad as hell at the same time..

then saved up and bought this from a kid that was amazing at riding, had a full blown six pack in his side yard in the city, but liked smoking weed better

loaded this thing up with every sick part Profile made, it was awesome

i wish i had more pics from me racing, and my ex step dad has a box full of glass trophies stuffed away from my really big wins. The only thing I have left to visually see, is some VHS recorded vids of my dad yelling at me to "pedal my ass off or im walking home" at cheri lindsey bmx in binghamton

JMC!
I wanted a bike when I was 13, my parents said get a job. So I saved up and built a bad ass 18lb JMC short frame with a euro bottom bracket. Serial No. 144 My sisters friend was a machinist and he made me some trick one off pedals. They had Honda Works like grip to them. When I saw them I was frightened. Took one back spin to the shin and the pedal stuck in my skin. I still have that scar.

Each month I got some money I would pour it into the bike. I had a couple sets of Araya rims. A square set and a set that had a bead in them. I had 170MM crank set, I was saving up to put Flight Cranks on them. It was a sweet bike. in 1982, I broke it down, sand blasted it and took it to Jim at JMC in Azusa (just down the road) to have it powder coated black like the New Black Shadow. I put it back together, added the bullseye bottom bracket, and a few other bits, parked it in the garage, closed the garage and went to school.

Came home from school and it was gone! I was ruined. It was more than a bike. It was my freedom, it took me places, It was my outlet of anger. A few years later I found out who took it, when I tried to get it back it was moved from where I saw it and I had nothing for proof. Shortly after that incident the guy who I saw it with died in a car accident. Pursuing it with his parents just seemed wrong. I still surf Ebay looking for it.

That bike defined my teen age years.

YEEEAAAHHH!

We used to make jumps when I was in grade school (long before my PK days). We would put plywood ramps on stacked cinder blocks and jump over garbage cans. Started out flat-landing it until the Western Auto store guy who was getting rich selling us replacement axles told us to build some landing ramps.

Man, we really used to pull chicks in 5th grade doing those jumps!

Man your street cred went thru the roof if you rolled up sporting Flight Cranks, Throw in the Bullseye hubs and you had the scene on lockdown. Damn I loved those days.

This was the 1st BMX race bike I ever had. It was I believe a 97 Dyno VFR (they apparently had the same frame as the GT interceptor I think)

I also picked up a Dyno VFR cruiser in 99 so I could race more motos each day

then in late 2000, at a State Qualifier race, I won a Free Agent Raceway that was night and day better than the dyno. Steeper head angle and the fork drop outs were right under the fork leg as well, made the bike turn way better, and was insanely light

I rode that bike for 2 years before it got stolen out of my garage, while I was leading the points for both the state and the NBL western region. At that point my BMX racing days were over (I had started racing moto that same year)

Had the original Mongoose with Motomags, before thet a Yamaha Motobike but that was the mid - late '70's. My Motobike had lay down YZ80C shocks, had to pedal with my heel!

In the 80's I was racing the 26' Cruiser class at the Happy Valley (serious) BMX club on a Kos Cruiser.

Some pics of my PK,had to fill the drop outs back in as they always get chewed to bits, then took the big lumps out of the frame with a belt sander, then did it all with a d/a until down to a fine grade, then wet/dry paper and brought it all up through metal polishing,it took AGES,nevermind I'm pleased with it but old stock parts prices are sooooo expensive now,I wish I hadn't aboused it as a kid but where's the fun in that eh Laughing

Sorry the pics are a bit shite:

Those weren't Tuff's, they were ACS Z-Rims.

I had the graphite Tuff 2's on my 84 Skyway TA XL,and like many of these cool bike stories,it got stolen.
