Step seats - who uses them?

I used one for quite a while, just the bump though that was a bar pad cut in half, narrowed, glued on... Worked great for me especially on acceleration and going up nasty hills in offroad racing.. Rode the 450 I got without one a couple times and it made a huge difference when I put one on it with a new gripper cover mostly on hard acceleration.. I am wanting to know when ONE Industries is going to release those ribbed covers I have been seeing the pros use for at least a season now, keep checking the site but haven't seen them for the public yet.

Flu Designs makes a really aggressive, ribbed seat cover. Might want to check that one out.

Not only do they let me use a wider range of different bars they let me rotate the bars forward giving me a ton more room in the 'cockpit'. They also let me assume a more comfortable standing position and not be in that "I'm way to tall" crouch.

Remember though, I'm old and I suck.

Here I am trying to find room for my leg back in the dark ages at Southwick on a 2/3 scale Honda.

I always have that awkward "im way to tall crouch'' and it is really annoying. Thanks for the tips.

I tried a step, but prefer a smaller bump, just enough to let me know where I am on the seat. I didn't like how the step made you sit higher when on the back of the seat.

My 2000 CR500 had a step seat on it when I got it and it went straight into the trashcan within a week.

That's exactly what I want to try.

Did you order your seat that way or was it trial & error to figure out the perfect spot for the bump?

pleated seat covers are where it's at. keep you in place. I don't really need something to tell me where I am on the seat.

My buddy rides a 2011 450 Honda. He said that he felt "tippy" in slow corners, so we peeled back his stock seat cover & shaved off a little bit of seat foam, maybe 15 or 20mm max. re-attached the cover, & he's happy. Says he feels more secure in the corners when seated.

Just do your shaving in small increments, & use a really long, sharp knife for a smooth finish. you don't want your seat to look lumpy.

Oh, & he's about 5'8"

If anyone is looking for a "ribbed" seat let MotoSeat know. We offer them for all the late model 4-stroke bikes. Here are a few pics of what we have done.











These seats are currently being used by Andrew Short, Weston Peick, and more!!

Regarding the "bumps" they work great for helping the rider locate their position on the bike, then combined with the "ribbed" seat you will stay in place.

I had a step seat on one of my 05 crf450's and I HATED IT! It was good for knowing where to sit in a turn but you are supposed to use your abs/core to pull you forward coming out of a turn gripping w your knees. But like you I'm 6'3 (a long legged pissed off Puerto Rican) Haha Nah I'm Italian .... Anyway being tall w bump seats never worked for me bec I was always sitting on the hump due to my stature much like yours. My advice, SDG tall seat a little lower pegs like fastway or moose has a set that are lower .....and being tall ill bet you have big feet, I used to hit the shifter and brake at the wrong times thanks to bruce972 I got a lower -12mm back pegs for my RM and with the tallest bars or risers its pretty comfy now.

Here's the shorter version: SDG Tall seat, lower pegs with a further back offset, pastrana or windham bars or rocky mountain atv sells 30mm bar risers for either size bars billet aluminum & pretty nice too for $20. That should get you as comfy as you can be since the bikes were made for someone around 5'6". That setup works good on all my RM's

I use a crossbar pad cut in half as well. I just removed my seat cover, found the spot where i wanted it and glued it to the seat foam then stapled the seat cover back on. For me it helps stay foreward at the start as well keeping me foreward in the corners. Maybe not for everyone, but I sure like mine.
