I may not have many posts or much of a reputation at all, but I have been reading Vital for a few years now. I used to read interesting opinions, arguments, and tidbits of info that I normally do not have access to! I watched it morph, along with facebook and other social medias, into a hodgepodge stirring pot for people to talk crap. That's not cool. I agree, trim the hedges and bring it back to what it used to be! Humor is nice, when used properly and with some intelligence!

I have spent over 21 years serving this nation and defending this whole meaningless constitution thing.... whatst that first thing a ma jiggy... freedom of ... whats that called?

of yeah speech!

i didnt see anything really wrong today, I have to admit!!!

I made some observations, others made there own... its called a discussion/Debate.... its what should be encouraged. what the hell else were we supposed to do during and hour delay... discuss how well brayton did?

I think my comments in some other threads grouped me in the "js7 hater" crowd and that couldnt be further from the truth... I am a super fan of moto... I dont love or hate any rider, but, sure we have our favorites!!! I want every rider out there competing... stewart, Reed, Villo, Dunge, and Trey!!!!

I hope one day we can all distinguish from good spirited debate, and "hating" or "nut hugging!" what are we a bunch of 7th grade girls or something???

I want to see some friggin good ass racing, and all that happened today was a probably boring JS7 run away to a now more than obvious RD5 runaway and the ensuing astrisk comments if he seals the deal on the championship!

any who... I hope James isnt really hurt bad and can come back and make this title chase a good one!!!

Steve,

Agree... Sad to see the down word spiral of Vital's forum relevance as it could be a great, great resource for the sport for many people of all ages and interests.

A lot of the intelligent, viable commentary and insight that used to be present here - and at MotoTalk before... - from many is no longer present.

Responsible, smart, knowledgeable, mature, collaborative people just get tired of the overall stupidity and leave. Now it seems more like a TMZ for MX and SX.

I agree that added focused moderation would be good if it could filter out some of the blatant absurdity and internet insults.

Many thanks for sharing the note that started this thread.

Best regards,

Rex Backman

Maybe we should have a thumb print verification thing that is required to post? And maybe an IQ Test to sign up?

Maybe each post should be sent to a mod for approval before it is allowed to be posted?

Maybe each submitted post should be reviewed by a panel of super smart, industry insiders, who can censor, change the wording, or otherwise edit all of our posts just to ensure nobody has their feelings hurt?

I am all for more and more control in the place. Less freedom is always better.

Discussion/debate is all well and good. But in most cases, it results in personal insults/attacks/disrespectful comments on riders/other forum members.

So you served 21 years... I respect and admire that.

How would you feel if the Westboro Baptist nuts were protesting during one of your fallen comrades funerals?

Granted it's not quite to that extent, but technically we're on private property while posting here, anyways. We all have the freedom to walk into any bar and start insulting all of the patrons and their families, but the owner has the freedom to tell us to leave. This example is much more applicable to an internet forum than it is to the right to protest on public property.

Moderation is a common practice on the internet, and has been since the day the forum was born.

Lots of good points being made here.

As WhKnuckle pointed out, it might just be a reflection of our frustration and disappointment with how the year has gone. It started out with a bang and looks like it may go out with a whimper.

IMO, the occasional crazy threads are part of the appeal here. Certainly no worse than some of the know-it-all vs. know-it-all threads that some of the 'respected regulars' engage in - and a lot more entertaining.

Motocross is largely made up of squirrelly people. Keep it a little squirrelly.

Also, If we go to a real name forum, please make a special exception for peelout.

How about instead of clicking the entire thread, clicking the out of line posts?

If the persons posts keep getting clipped then they will know what they are saying isn't productive or valuable to the thread.

Yeah it will take a lot of work, but if you want things to change, you have to change them.

I suggested that a while back....Hell, I've even had some of my threads just go poof...no dumbgeon or anything, which is fine by me. I don't consider myself to have never been somebody that will fill up the entire front page with pretty much all of the same threads and I've never complained when I may have posted something out of line and it just disappeared. I considered it more of a passive warning.

Well I certainly believe in the freedom you speak of Bullpen and strongly believe that freedom of speech is paramount to overall freedom. That said the critical thinking skills of many on this site is seriously lacking. To maintain freedom and not be policed by the establishment one needs to police onesself!!!! This is not directly pointed at you, but rather at the whole!

This forum is just a mirror of the world in general. We have been conditioned to be one way or another no middle ground, no room for error. Democrat/Republican Black/White Stewart/Dungey etc etc etc.

I actually enjoy reading that. Honest, valid, opinions. No unnecessary censorship. If people are being racist or something truly bad, then ban them. Otherwise, let em argue. It's the interweb. NOT REAL LIFE! Cracks me up how people get all pissy about how people on the lame interweb do not treat people like they would in real life. That's because it's NOT real life. Toughin up people.
I don't think you get it. It isn't about being tough or letting people argue it out......its about lots of people coming in here for info purposes and keeping up on the non mainstream part of this sport.

Nearly every thread on here gets ruined by a bunch of cornball goons who probably never raced more then ten times in their life, but seem to think that the guy who yells the loudest must know it all.

If I want to see low life idiots fight it out I'll watch MTV.....which I haven't for ten years or more.

I see what you mean and I agree. I just worry about "us" (GuyB and co.) being overly restrictive. I hate all the childish name calling and personal attacks as much as the next guy but I hate organizational censorship even more.

I think GuyB and OC and whoever else do a great job at what is nearly an impossible job. They are never gonna please ALL of us. haha.

I missed all the drama today I guess, didn't see the race and no idea who won or lost, first thread I clicked was this one.

I go on a few message boards and the is without a doubt the worst one when it comes to shit talk. Talking smack is one thing, but this place takes it to a new level.

Personally I feel the board is a reflection of its mods. The mods set the tone of the board. I really like oscottie, never met him or talked to him on a personal level, but he has a good vibe.

Gibby I think has a lot on his plate and the message board part of Vital wears on him and is just over it.

Terryk, kinda like BobbyM likes to stir the pot. He gets away with disrepecting people because he is a mod. Kinda has his favs and his not so faves.
If the mods lay the smack down on everyone the same, the bs will stop, you can't let some guys get away with more than others. You either have rules or you don't.

This place is missing a few of the good guys because of more than a few bad guys.

Ok, enough about all that from me, I'm off to see who won.

........but where do you draw the line between freedom of speech and a box of idiots all trying to scream over top of each other?

I feel sorry for this unnamed industry person. Actually I feel sorry for most people that do not understand that there is a very valid and strong reason that people feel the need to express themselves in the way seen on this anonymous forum and many others.

Hopefully, he doesn't spend too much time stressing over something that doesn't cause any trouble for someone that has a firm grasp of this type of entertainment.

If you are simply looking for motocross news why read an opinion board that has a locker room feel? Life is serious, message boards not as much?

Vital is a business....Vital has become a brand........Vital represents our sport big time. If DC takes the time to log on to see what is happening after mowing grass all morning....... TC's mom logs on......who elses mom logs on.........it does not take mental genius to figure out what needs to be accomplished ........ well figure it out yourself before a decision is made on your behalf and ............click!

I find it amusing that the same people that put up a wall between us (the fans) and them (the insiders) are now getting their feelings hurt by some content on an internet forum. In my opinion, the industry folks are getting exactly what they give: They talk shit and call posters out in media, high visibility riders and team personnel intentionally mislead, taunt and stir the pot via Twitter, they rarely provide any details that are of interest to us, etc, etc, etc. Makes you wonder why fans are frustrated and some choose to channel that frustration on an MX forum...

Maybe if they tried to treat us with a bit more respect, provide relevant information in a timely manner and stop promoting the "Us vs. Them" mentality you might see things get back to where they were a few years ago (coincidentally, a time when industry folks were more accessible and you could actually hear something more than a list of sponsors).

At the end of the day, it's still just riding a motorcycle.

I agree this place needs to clean it up a bit, but I personally enjoy reading posts from guys like bullpen and bobbyM. Sure, they love a good sledge but know where to draw the line. On the other hand, some people here are nothing but complete pests. I'd love to see a few of those get some time off from this place....

I fully agree with your friend Steve and I for the most part don't post here too much anymore because it always turns into a pissing match. Take my helmet thread for eg. This place is outta control and I agree with norcal3737. You need more mod's layin some law. If this was my forum... I would have made it a real name forum with no exceptions. It's not too late to make everyone use their real names btw.

I would absolutely help and I'm sure you have a few buddies on here that would help clean it up a bit for free in their spare time.

Banning/clicking someone isn't always a deterrent either and they just sign right back up more angry ready to cause more problems & talk more junk.New email addy's,using proxies,VPN's,cousin Vinny's network, wife margrets Qwest phone ect..
You could have 100 Mods banning people and clipping posts, but people are still going sign back up and post the same stuff til they get clipped again. It goes on & on...and keeps reoccurring.

And as for verifying real names, would be hard to do even with scanned ID's or even using a credit card processor and using a 1 time life time fee during the sign up process, due to pre paids & what not (plus you have fraud to deal with).Even verifying by phone ,people could use trak phones ect...just like they do to make fake CL accounts.
The bottom line is a lot of so called fans of the sport Suck ASS, with all their negativity towards the athletes of the sport they claim to love.

Why do you think I rarely take the time to post? I have lurked for years, and finally connected with Facebook when that option became available. I enjoy reading a lot of the content and up-to-date information on this site (because I do believe it's the most active moto forum out there), but don't want to deal with 90% of the people on here trying to be tough guys. It is just a broad internet thing really. It isn't just Vital. Pretty much all social forums have come to this new-aged style of communicating on the internet while trying to one-up the previous poster. Everyone is trying to be THE SHIT! They want their name KNOWN. It's more annoying than anything.

I would post more but I feel like I would be spending more time responding to ridiculous comments and having to defend myself all the time so I've decided it isn't worth my time. Everyone is so sensitive and seems to attack one another every chance they get. It's a constant battle, isn't it?

PEACE.

Seriously? Show me where I disrespected someone that wasn't being out of line. Show me.

Do I have a right to my own opinion? Yes.
Do I voice that opinion? Certainly
Do I call out people who are being dicks? Effin' A I do.

I'm sorry if my being a bit more outspoken than some of the other mods offends you, but I was this way YEARS before you joined and I will continue to be myself when I post. I don't like, nor do I condone people hiding behind a screen name and acting like complete fools when in real life they wouldn't dare talk that way to people. This is why I've never once on any forum used a name other than my own. As far a favorites go sure, we all have favorites, but if they get out of line then they will hear about it, and I don't care who they are. Some may seem to get more leniency but thats only because in general, they normally add substance to the threads they post in. Everyone slips up once in a while and that can be forgiven, but if you continually post worthless garbage and add nothing to the conversation then you are going to get clipped. It's a simple concept really.

One more thing. Steve and Scottie do the bulk of the moderating here (I have to work for a living so I just do have the time to be here more) but I do check in daily and do my best to be here on race days to help out but NO ONE can read every single post in every single thread so invariable things get missed and people start whining about "oh so-and-so can say that shit but whatshisname said that and got clipped!" I've said it a hundred times before, if you see something that offends you or someone else, say something! Message one of the mods or admins and point it out. There's no shame in doing this. If you want a better board then maybe you can do your part in helping get it that way.

Yeah, there are plenty of haters that usually never have anything nice to say...

You also get a lot of the trolls on here also, that say stuff just to get a reaction or cause drama and try to get people in an uproar so they have a chuckle by themselves or whatever.

Then you get one user immature who doesn't like another user and they try to taunt each other by saying harsh stuff about the rider that the other likes. You see that go back & forth often.

Also Craig, check your email that you signed up here with,I replied to your PM last week or so,not sure if you got it or not.
But it should have went to your Gmail (cbr name).

I disagree. I am older (40s) and I can tell by the way things are written and the expressions used. Most of the young bucks want to prove their manhood and the internet allows one to do so with much bravado. With age and experience most men become more tolerant because there is nothing to prove and can debate without ad hominem attacks. There are always exceptions but this has been my experience.
