Looks like it was from last weekend.

Any average racer out there would have broke something doing this!
Check out the amazing bounce this rider had off the landing.

You could win a lot of money by saying "I bet I could backflip the leap."

It always hurts to land like that but atleast stepups are forgiving. If that were a flat or step down he would have been screwed. The suspension helps too but its real improtant to know propper body positioning to take the hit.

for the record i would rather case a down hill or a flat landing anyday than case the leap again. its 10x wosre to face an uphill when falling out of the sky. and stock suspension doesnt help much.

It does suck slamming into a face but I hate the drop of a down hill. All that time to think about it and all that extra energy from dropping in at high speed. Its real hard to recover. If you even can. I've been sent over my bars on both up and down hills.

That landing looked real forgiving. Although I've never jumped the leep so I really don't know. Lawn darting into a face really hurts the wrists though not to mention your hips. Good body positioning helps allot.

QUestion

When did you know you were coming up short ? looked like you were prepared by the time you hit it .

That would have sent me to the showers

what's the best "body positioning" to take a case like that? looks liek he was up and far back??

You just "clinch" and go for the ride...Use all your suspension, arms, legs, ankles, and guts !

It helps to have long legs. I rode out more bad jumps because of my 36" in-seam.

I know this is bait but I'll play. I would imagine he was centered on the bike and stayed loose and ready to soak up the impact working with the suspension. He would also want to make sure he gripped with his legs so he was not thrown forward.

If he was too far back the rear suspension would send him for a trip.

If he was too far fwd he would plobley break his wrists and still go over the bars. (the best of both worlds.)

I've been too far back but never too far fwd.

I have to say casing the downhill stuff scares me way more than the uphill... Even over jumping a big jump. I hate that feeling of falling and knowing what the stop at the bottom will feel like. Nothing you can do but hold on. I have nightmares like that.

Dude I don't know where you learned your physics, but I would take a flat landing any day over the one he took.

Not only did he land INTO a face, but it stopped his forward momentum. So he lost speed in both the vertical AND the horizontal direction. Much worse than loosing speed only in the vertical direction

Mabey you need help with what a step up is. To flat land is fine but to land on the backside of a landing is never good but its better when your just working with forward motion and not vertical and forward. Just think what that would have been like if he fell to the same level as the take off.

Bad things! At the same time think if he had to fall down even farther (Step Down). Ugly!!

The forces just build till you hit what ever that max speed thing is called. I don't have time to look it up. (Terminal velocity I remembered)

After you figure this out let them know how a seat bounce works.

Hmmm. I seem to remember in the discussion of table to table that it was asserted that because suspension is damped it can never bounce the bike back off the ground.
