It's early, but I didn't see how they could go from GH, to Pala, to Elsinore. No comparison in my opinion.

How many of you have ever been to Troy?

It was on the series for many years.

What makes that picture so bad ass of Josh is not just the style but the jump itself. One of the gnarliest of the circuit. It's bascially a hill jump, you're jumping straight up over the peak to a complely blind landing about 60 feet down. This is part of the REM track they added for the Nats. Hitting this thing took major balls.

MxSports wasn't going to give them a long term contract without the necessary facility upgrades and G.H didn't want to do so.

Now they run FMX events....

I think it's great they put all that money into Elsinore to pretty it up and keep a track going in this economy. Fact of the matter is Elsinore is on a lake bed and they are prohibited from bringing in any outside dirt. No matter how much money that tiller cost and how deep you till it, after a few laps with 20+ bikes blazing laps, the dirt turns to one lined blue groove concrete.

Besides GH, Comp Edge has the ideal NAT style track. Elevation changes, perfect dirt and a lot of open area. All they need is a few more trees scattered about for shade.
More trees to tame the WIND would be ideal at Comp Edge..... I rode Elsinore not too long ago and it was one of the best times ive had on a bike in a long time....the track is REALLY good and the dirt IMO is much improved. I like it to ride at .... as for a National hmmmm I say GH is stilll the pinnacle SoCal Mx racetrack but Elsinore isnt as bad as some would think I really like it and once they open up a membership ill be going there on the regular..... feels good to go WFO in 3rd and 4th which is hard to do at milestone although I like milestone Elsinore is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun

Saddleback part 2 had a similar one albeit a little shorter it was still a gnarly jump like that one pictured and it went off at an angle.

They have alway ran other things AND the Nationals.

Problem is as long as Glen Helen is open, no matter where else they have the race in SoCal, it is going to be compared to Glen Helen. You can have the all the swimming pools, carnival rides, and vip tents you want, not going to change the fact that the Glen Helen's track is a beast. If you want the best riders in world riding the best tracks, Glen Helen is on the schedule. If your looking for all the extras, then Glen Helen is not your place.

Boston Red Sox play in a dump of a stadium compared to the newer ones, but you can't buy history, and I don't hear anyone complaining about not having a swimming pool at Fenway. Times change, but when I go to a National, I go with a cooler, some food, chairs, and a camera, and dig in for a great day. I go to SX to sit in an assigned seat. Elsinore will be like a SX more than a MX race.

Not a knock at all against DC, he is doing the best with what he has, his hand was forced and he made the call. Guessing Elsinore will do great, there will be growing pains and promises of doing things better next year. Fact is, your not changing the dirt and you can't make mountians on the bottom of a lake bed.

There is a reason why more pro riders are at Glen Helen on Thursday than Elsinore. They may hate it, but they know if they can go fast there, they can go fast anywhere.

DC being the big mx history guy he is, I think it kills him that they couldn't get a deal with Glen Helen done.

All that said, I wouldn't say Glen Helen is never coming back as an AMA MX event, after all Glen Helen is American Motocross!

I'm not saying one is better than the other but the fact is GH had an opportunity(and more than one) to get the facility updated and didn't, tried to say F.U to MxSports by getting a GP and now have nothing to show.

Time is NOT on the side of Elsinore. They have alot of work to do to make it National worthy track, and they have three months. Elsinore track has been there for years, and still they can't figure out the dirt. Unless you have ridden there, you have no clue as how bad the dirt is. It's a freakin' lake bottom, your not changing that.

Go to bed Bobby, you don't even live here.

Updated? Most overused term to describe what went down. They did plenty of "updates," I think it was more personal conflict than anything else. DC was maybe asking for too much and Glen Helen was thinking they were in charge. Turned into a pissing contest, and the fans lost.

Both sides seemed to have moved on, I just think both sides need each other. You don't have to like each other to work together. Kobe and Shaq made it work. Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth are making a go of it, and it's no secret that Mick and Keith don't personally care for one another. Glen Helen has no National, and MX Sports is a holding a National at a track that's on the bottom of what used to be a Lake. Both sides are losing in my opinion.

Big picture, there is no other track in Socal as good as Glen Helen on National weekend. MX Sports can't sit around and let the track dictate how the series works though. Not a fan of Jodycross at all, but he could map out a track. Big fan of DC and hope it works out at Elsinore for him, no doubt it's going to be a tough road.

I remember reading an article that David Bailey wrote about Saddle back in RX back around 2001 or so. Bailey described saddleback as this really really gnarly track with "rolling boulders" going down the hill during the races, and "straight up and down hills". He painted a picture while reading it that made it sound so gnarly that I wanted to see it. It just sounded like the way a motocross track should be.

Glen helen always seemed to be a modern day saddle back. Rolling hills, rolling rocks (down hills), gnarly deep ruts.

Just eems like they are building a big supercross track outside kind of Dry

Seems like DD's vs flap jacks

Nascar has his Daytona, F1 has his monaco GP, the GPs had the namur track and for the AMA nationals it is Glen Helen ... Such a shame ...

I saw Jake Weimer was agreeing with Grant and Reed. Glad Elsinore is open for a local races, but it's not a national caliber track. Bring back Glen Helen!

I went to Lake Elsinore on a trip to the US and though 'is this it'.... rode the track on a YZF450 on Slick tyres.. was beyond hardpack..

One of the dream'trips' to do from the UK is last round of the Supercross & stay over for Glen Helen.. but i dont see anyone queueing up to do it now..

rediculous, went to hollister hills and walked around, watched

I love that track but think its too small for a National. Yes I know they had a 500gp there but that was back in 89 or 90. Now the national tracks seem much longer. Also the location and parking suck.

Wow, we had 90 pros out there at Lake Eslinore yesterday to get feedback and give then a full day or riding and testing, and I got great feedback from Josh grant, Jake Weimer, Ryan Dungey, Davi Millsaps, Tomac, Barcia, Roczen, Baggett, Peick, the Hahns, Wharton, etc..,.

The Lake Eslinore track just added saw dust to see how it would set up and it was a completely different than what it was like just a week ago. The layout for the national will be completely different, by the way. We"ve only just started. But what they have accomplished in eight months is remarkable. You will be surprised by what you see on September 8, and hopefully impressed. They are in it for the very long haul.

I appreciate how much everyone misses Glen Helen. I miss it too. But I met with Bud in January for a nice long meeting and it's apparent than he has different plans for his facility right now and wants to pursue them. I wish him well and hope everyone keeps going to both tracks as much as possible. They are different but they are both good moto facilities.

I've ridden and raced a few tracks in 30 years and GH is top of the list for me. It has all the elements of a great track, plenty of parking(Hollister lacks this) great dirt, elevation changes, HUGE JUMPS, and the ability to make big changes to its layout every time. Its a shame the national isn't at GH, hopefully DC and Bud can work it out in the future!

I don't care what anyone says, that place is the most gnarly and awesome track there ever was. With the big hills and the badass talledega turn, that picture alone is enough to give chill bumps. Woohoo

Except he was talking about Elsinore. Not GH.

I agree with Bobby. Give it time... sheesh. I was one of the doubters of Pala and that Nat turned out badass. To me it was the second best national... right after Red Bud.
