"If you look closely you will see three different KTMs represented on the dyno charts: the 250SX two-stroke, 250SXF four-stroke and 150SX two-stroke. We included the two-strokes because both are legal in the same class as 250F four-strokes (under amateur rules). The numbers are spectacular at some points on the curve and dismal on others. Make no mistake about it, a 250SX racer would holeshot every 250 race he enters. The power is abrupt and violent, with a vigorous kick from 7000 rpm to 10,000 rpm. If you aren’t into being like Mike, or Ryan or Chad, the KTM 250SX provides a massive advantage...if you have the talent to take advantage of it. "

I'm thinking we should go to 450's and 125 two strokes to get things a little further apart.

and most of the people that race in NZ, Australia and in the US amateur races agree with us, because they are all able to choose which bike they race, and mostly, they choose 4 strokes,
This is what I told him:
-A 250 4-stroke makes about 10HP less than a 2-stroke, while the actual size of the engine is twice as big.
-The 4-stroke weighs 5-15kg more and costs around $2000 more.
-They are nearly impossible to work on yourself.
-They are about half as fun as a 2-stroke.
I ended with saying: about 3/4 of motocrossers ride a 4-stroke.
This is the response I got:
Also the OP link gives me an error, cant see it.
Edit: oh it's the "& # 13" thing screwing it up. Found it here.

a 250 four-stroke makes 10hp less than a 125? on who's dyno?
-They are nearly impossible to work on yourself.
"nearly impossible"; have you ever tried? I made the switch from working on two-strokes to working on four-strokes pretty easily (I can follow the directions in the manual; it must take a genius if this task is nearly impossible). It takes maybe an extra five minutes to pull the cams/head. Ever tried? It's really not that bad. I'm not a mechanic, just an average dude.
-They are about half as fun as a 2-stroke.
I'm having at least twice as much fun on my four-stroke. It's easier to control, I can then have more fun with it! I can do more jumps, and I feel safer doing it. I have so much more fun, that I sold my two-strokes and I'm not going back. So something like "fun" is hard to quantify, as we all have different ideas about what's fun.

...which says a lot of people are having similar experiences to mine.
Your friend probably gave you that look because what you said sounded just about as unbelievable as it is.
People aren't as simple and stupid as you perceive them to be. A huge number of us have tried both, and made a decision based on what we thought was more fun.

They are easy to ride and for most, are the perfect balance of rideability and horsepower. They are making close to 40 hp these days!!
250F's are alot smoother than 250T's and easier to hang on to after a long moto.
Those guys making the electric bikes are modeling there bikes after 250F's (30-35HP) range for a reason..its optimal.
Sounds to me like yes we do have a choice and the 2 stroke 250's are selling out. They need to make a crap load more because all the brain washed 4 strokers are starting to wake up.......
