It's early, but I didn't see how they could go from GH, to Pala, to Elsinore. No comparison in my opinion.

I know there are business reasons why the national isn't at GH anymore but it seems blasphemous to have it anywhere else. GH is the definition of motocross IMO

Exactly!
You have to ask yourself,,,,,,what is the priority? Make as much money as possible (the promoter that is) or have the best So-Cal motocross race possible?

I think it's great they put all that money into Elsinore to pretty it up and keep a track going in this economy. Fact of the matter is Elsinore is on a lake bed and they are prohibited from bringing in any outside dirt. No matter how much money that tiller cost and how deep you till it, after a few laps with 20+ bikes blazing laps, the dirt turns to one lined blue groove concrete.

Besides GH, Comp Edge has the ideal NAT style track. Elevation changes, perfect dirt and a lot of open area. All they need is a few more trees scattered about for shade.

It is OK for normal riding but when I raced there it was a bit scary. The track starts out great in the morning with more traction than you can use. After a while, it packs down and the dirt won't take water. Essentially, they spray it on and it turns to grease on the surface. That kind of dirt works for natural terrain based tracks but Elsinore is a glorified parking lot SX track. Glen Helen, Comp Edge Cahuilla are all better tracks. Although, the fences and ponds are nice if you actually give a shit about that in an MX track.
I don't know what went down with MX sports and Glen Helen but the truth is I don't care. I also don't care to spend money to go watch parking lot nationals. I just wish for once they would put their egos aside for the better of the sport and come to some compromise so that we can se an actual hill in a SoCal MX national.

Ego's aside? Both those groups are running multimillion dollar operations (DC and Dr. Feldkamp). The only place I see tracks staying on the menu for years on end, are in countries in which the MX Sports Federation runs the program, and sometimes those programs turn into ego battles and the whole thing goes in the toilet. It's capitalism here, and we get what the business guys decide.

I'm a Dungey fan and all....but the guy will always toe the company line. I'm not sure he's going to speak his honest opinion.

Regardless of what RD5 might really think, that's exactly what I would expect him to say. He might have really liked it but his answer would probably be the same if he didn't.

A few pics from today. Track and facilities looked good.

p.s. I am not a pro with a camera, so excuse any lack of quality.

GH is awesome. I was there in 2003 when Windham was dropping the hammer on RC. That is a fantastic outdoor track.

Elsinore looks like a glorified high speed big ol outdoor SX track to me. You can put all the white fences you want around it, but it ain't gonna help. And the dirt being hard is not even the issue. We could use a hard pack track on the circuit, but it needs to be a hard pack track with some hills and elevation changes.

Holllister Hills' GP track is very good but it is not the same kind of animal that GH is. GH is practically a different sport!!! It is like if desert racing fucked Unadilla and had a love baby that then fucked a GNCC track and had another love baby.

It's not the best dirt, but they will prep it real good for the national.
To me, the success of the national will depend on the weather. Hopefully the mercury won't exceed 90F on raceday.

I have raced at Lake Elsinore and Glen Helen this year and while the layout is OK at Elsinore the dirt is greasy as can be in the afternoon with any water on it.

I have raced Holister a few times also, nice track but not Glen Helen.
