First I appologize for a two stroke/ four stroke thread but this is not really a v.s.'s.
A little history: Raced motocross back in the day. I'm talking 1980ish back in the day. Kept riding, mostly 500 two strokes. Well this last weekend I got a chance to play ride a friends 2012? Husky 450 dual sport for some time and the first time on a four stroke. Man this thing has a WIDE powerband. Almost couldn't tell if I was lugging it or over reving it. Just wide.
Suspension: wow it has come a long way. Forks were too soft, tried to compensate with compression but needed stiffer springs. Still, worked well enough. Did I like it better than a 500? Not really as a play bike, I really like the explosive power of a 500 when play riding. Does any one care? Probably not but I do see the appeal of four strokes now. It was really fun to spend a few days riding it. Gee I wonder how fun RV's bike is................

Good post, It makes me think that's for sure. You would be surprized on how many people do care. I find out that when you are a gear higher than what you think the CR500AF should be. It has a wide power band aswell. Just lug it around the track. Lugging a CR500 in the taller gear is faster than a 450. Even when lugging it you still need to chop the throttle b4 the jumps. Otherwise you will over jump.. If you are a gear to low well it revs out couseing a wheely or the rear wheel to spin. If the engine isn't reving to the moon it makes you think you are not going fast.. I'm sorry you seem to know what your talking about when it comes to the 500. Don't mind me.. Thanks

Lugging a 500 is still faster than a 450 you say? Interesting....

I've ridden a bunch of 500's, and I never had a problem of completely over shooting jumps or anything of that nature. But a "lugging" 500 is not faster then an on the pipe 450, maybe you two stroke guys are such spodes that you never leave 2nd gear?

or all the power of a 250 2 stroke. 250F seemed to be the perfect fit for me being somewhat in between a 125 and 250 2 stroke. Loved it revving to the moon but eventually bored of the wide power spread. And when it scattered in grand fashion let's just say I didn't like the massive repair bill. Call me odd but I like hammering the gearbox of a 125/150 trying to keep it in the sweet spot. And speaking of 150's, they are awfully proud of those things especially with the 2013 models just 2 months away.

Ok so here you are leaveing the corner in second or third on the 450. When someone on a 500 comes up behind you a gear taller and roost you so bad that you don't know whats going on.. Have you listend to the 500 while you were riding it? With such little amount of revs its amazing how you can sneek up behind a 450 "SPODE" in such a way they don't even know you are there.. The only reason why you never over jumped anything while on a 500 is you hit the brakes b4 any jumps.. The best way to judge your speed while on a 500 is when passing or getting the shit scared out of you when you do realize how much faster you are going. Cause not being able to hear the engine reving to the moon. You really can not tell how fast you are going. Go on youtube and watch any video racing a 500. Try and hear the difference in engine speeds between the 500 and the 450's.. While on a 450 you can hear all the sounds of the engine. So while you have that 450 pinned it sounds real fast. So in turn that makes you feel fast.. When on a 500 you have no need to ever have the engine pinned. So in turn you think you are going slower.. Have you ever read or done any research on a 500cc twostroke? I have a question for ya. The next time you go ride find someone with a 125cc twostroke. Ask if you can try it out. You'll feel indestructable cause you have the 125 pinned everywhere you go. So in turn that makes you think you are flying. Woohoo

I really like those 150's. They're really one of the coolest bikes.

Visual proof that the engine wars will NEVER end. Just when we think we're out of the clear with the 2t vs 4t madness.. batteries come along.

Oi, what a facepalm this deserves.....

I have never been snuck up on by anyone while riding, ever...let alone someone on a 500. I would love to ride with you and have you come up and pass me without my prior knowledge of knowing you are there. I have never been scared of a 500 when I rode them. I admit I like the motor in deep loam, but everywhere else they just light up the tire...and they vibrate worse then Jenna Jameson's night stand. So you are telling me that since I cannot 'hear the engine sounds" on a 500 that I am turning faster lap times then on my 350 or anything else I am riding? I think you need to realize that the size of your engine has no direct correlation to lap times.....And by the way I own a 125cc two stroke....two of them in fact

Well I asked everyone who has tested out my CR500AF about the vibration. They said and I quote "they do not notice the vibration being anymore than their own bike while riding it". At idle yes of course there is a differents but not while riding. No I am not saying you are turning faster laps on the 350. I said you will feel like you turned faster times on a higher reving engine. As far as your 125's go well, I bet you as well as everyone else feels amazingly faster on them than they do on a bike where you do not have to rev to acheive the same speed. I said this b4 and I will say it again. If you want to feel like you are the fastest rider, then rev your engine to the moon everywhere you go.. You say the size of the engine has no correlation on lap times is true. But you will always feel faster when you can hear the engine reving. Ride your 125 back to back with your 450. Then tell me you feel like your faster on your 125 than you are on your 450. Even though you post faster laps on the 450..

So the top guys in the sport who are flirting with the rev limiter every second they ride do this because it makes them feel faster? I know I am not faster on my 125 because seeing as that I am about 170 lbs the poor thing struggles to get me over some big leaps, not to mention I can look down and realize the ground is not going by very fast, even though the engine is singing a tune like I am doing 80. I saw you post a while ago about riding mx 573 in Montrose, I would be glad to meet you there on a weekend and put your stealth theory to the test, as I am just about an hour away from there.

Is mx 573 still open? Last I new it was forsale. If the top guys in this sport were to rev out the CR500. They would definatly blow through the corners and over jump every jump on the track.!! Lets do this you put your 450 in any gear then I'll put my CR500AF in the same gear. Rev them out to see who carries more speed. If I do make it to mx573 I would be glad to call you. Just so you know in noway shape or form did I ever say I will be faster than you lol. That's just incase you end up being an expert vs me a slowrider. I will let you test my CR500AF back to back against your 450f. I will be the first to say I suck but I will argue with anyone who thinks they can not be faster on a CR500AF vs their own bike. So send me a email so I can give you my facebook page. If you want. I have wanted to go to mx573 for a few years now.Cool

Honestly i like all bikes, I ride a 250 2stroke though i grew up riding them so i enjoy the riding style and cost better. But that electric bike HOLESHOT is super super lame. Electric motor is an on off switch did you realize that everyone else had to kick there bikes, with that being said i hope it gets the holeshot everytime! But it is impressive, but not something i would want to ride

MX 573 is still going strong, I was there a few times last year and a few of my friends have been there this year, I am done with school tomorrow so i will be doing a bit more traveling...shoot me a pm with your e-mail....The club I belong to is renting 573 sometime in the coming weeks, and I am sure they would not mind a few more riders.

I could honestly care less about how fast people go, as long as they have fun...I am not that fast anymore so don't worry...beers/lack of practice/school have slowed my ass way down. I have never ridden a 500AF, might be a good time...

You won't be sorry. I am trying to get Greg Foster and AJ Waggoner to rent a track somewhere to allow riders to have a free ride on their CR/KX250AF and CR/KX500AF's. AJ is the Cofounder of the CR/KX500AF. I'm sure you new that. But hey I sent you the PM.

I wouldn't say that a 500 is faster than a 450, I would say it is violently faster. May not turn faster laps though. Maybe we can all pitch in and get James on a 500. How fun would that be?

What the fuck is wrong with some of you people. A 500cc 2-stroke is faster than a 450cc four-stroke? No fucking shit.

It's like saying a 450F is faster than a 250F, or a 700cc Maico is faster than a 50cc KTM.

He can't handle a 250 twostroke without crashing.! He is deffinatly the wrong rider for a CR500AF. Now Reed, Windham or anybody else is a different story.

Fair enough. I really miss the open class. Somebody mentioned the 700cc Maico; how do you kick start that thing? Maybe my wife could do it.................
