Running '82 PE175 or basketcase '85 IT200

Got a line on a 82 (maybe 83-4) PE175. Stripped of lighting and side plates (and a non-stock rear fender) but otherwise runs OK. Owner was originally asking 600, but I think I can get him down to 500 or maybe 450.



How are parts with this model, and replacement plastic for the PE.

The other option is a very ratty '85 IT200 with blown motor for 150. I found a brand new set of replacement plastic so that has some possibilities.

Thoughts on either of these?

I love my PE. Better suspension but the IT is faster and better looking. Full floater is hard to beat. Parts are no problem.

A friend had the 1982 PE. Great suspension, a bit peaky power wise for New England woods, and not as sporty looking as the IT but I'd probably go with the PE. I had a 1979 and it was fun in the woods. I am guessing that in an 82 as the 83 had yellow fork lowers.

Believe it is an 82. Have an 83 for parts the lower forks are yellow. I am going to try Race tech emulators in the forks. I like small bores in the woods. The PE is a fun motorcycle.

All I'll say is my father rode an IT200 from 1986 to 1991, when he bought a new KTM 250 EXC. When his KTM got stolen in 1994 he replaced it...with another IT200. He didn't race, just trail riding in New England and the IT was amazing for that. It only weighed about 200 lbs. No radiators, no power valve, virtually indestructible. The IT would chug like a 4 stroke through gnarly tight woods.
