I agree with your analysis completely. All parties are good guys. Only criticism I have of Stewart is his pattern of ostrich communication skills. Putting one's head in the sand doesn't always make the problem go away. James has had communication issues in the past. Like your marriage analogy, James shouldn't employ the silent treatment as his method of dealing with problems.
You mean you can get the silent treatment if your marriage starts having trouble? Just hypothetically, how much trouble do I have to cause to get that treatment?

It's like that girl on the TV commercial said, "The silent treatment isn't punishment. The silent treatment is reward."

Much like the marriage analogy, only thing he's sure to be is WRONG...
He said something to that effect on twitter a while back. And after reading his facebook comments, I'm speechless. Take this scenario for instance. If James doesn't race outdoors, he's a liar because he said he would. If he does race, it's because RV isn't there. It's a lose/lose for him. If I was getting hammered with comments and questions from 348058 people every day and no matter what my answer was it was wrong, I'd just stop talking to. But then again, he can't do that. Not communicating with the fans is wrong. But telling them the truth(that they don't want to hear) is wrong too. I like RD, RV, CR, and JS, so I'm not a JS nut hugger, I like good racing. But to see him in a state of "can't please ANYone" is hard to watch. I feel bad for the guy.

What so many keyboard jockeys forget is James is just another guy that rides dirbikes. He's not ANY different than your riding buddy...except faster. And more determined. But being determined doesn't mean you can stay on said motor-sickle.

I used to be a professional crasher...it's not all that fun KNOWING a crash is inevitable...

When this all gets sorted out, I think all of us (except there will be the haters of course) should admire James. He doesn't have to race nationals per his JGR Yamaha deal and could sit at home and collect millions. Instead, he's so upset at not being able to race and win that he's going to take a big hit $ wise so he can race the nationals on a yellow bike (at least that's the latest..it could change)

JGR isn't getting what they wanted out of this deal and neither is James, sometimes things just don't work out. But James could have very easily just rode at 3/4, collected a check and stayed home all summer. I admire him to be honest, he's betting on himself.

So he can race ALL the nationals on a yellow bike?

Or just a few towards the end of the season like you said in the RX Racerhead last Fri?

Steve, I thought his hand was hurt.
So is he not racing right now due to his hand or because he is so upset at not being able to race and win?
What is the truth?
You admire him for being honest with whom?
Has JS7 been in contact with you?
If so, tell him he should call his team manager and be honest with him.
The only way i will believe JS7 is racing the nationals is when i see him on the line for moto 1 at Hangtown.
That interview speaks volumes about JS7 IMHO.

I call BS. If he was worried about his legay, he would race, outdoors and SX. He wouldn't be sitting home pouting about RV stealing his thunder. He would also have gone to Suzuki and not choose the tub of lard Yamahopper for 212. His legacy is going to be missed opportunity IMO. He has never lived up the hype that surrounds him.

Since I know everything about everything, including what people are thinking I'll answer these:

So is he not racing right now due to his hand or because he is so upset at not being able to race and win?
What is the truth? He's not racing because his hand is hurt and he can't win.
You admire him for being honest with whom? Himself?
Has JS7 been in contact with you? No i haven't heard from him.
If so, tell him he should call his team manager and be honest with him. I'll do that soon as he calls/texts/tweets me...promise!
The only way i will believe JS7 is racing the nationals is when i see him on the line for moto 1 at Hangtown. He will either be on the starting line or not. Stamp it!

Unfortunately it is basically a method of trial and error that makes that determination. Perhaps you could post your efforts as guidance for the rest of us. Laugh.

That really does not speak well for James in my opinion. Under contract, but not attending races or acting in any way as an ambassador to the team or his sponsors. Hard to be a fan when you read stuff like that.

If you quit your job would you still show up every day? Or call in to check on everyone? James wants to quit. It's all about legalities now.

James hasn't quit dummy! He is under contract. If JGR's check cleared, which I bet it did...than James should get his ass on a plane and hold up his end of the bargain, or at least communicate with them.

James has talked about this, he said it is funny to him when people say he cant set up a bike, because he had no problem with it in the past.

If you have time to listen to Ferry's Pulp podcasts he says in so many words he couldn't set the bike up either, and said he mentally quit numerous times. Ferry basically says the bike can be fast but you cant get away with making mistakes, and 8 laps with half the competition there is a lot less opportunity to make a mistake than in the main with 20 laps and all of the competition. Another good listen is from Pingree on DMXS a couple weeks ago, he goes on to explain why the bike will work better for bigger, heavier riders with a very smooth style like Millsaps or Windham. I think most everyone thinks it is a great bike for normal riders, but as Chad has said its when a rider pushes the limits is when there is issues. I don't think Stewart looks at all like he used to on the Kawi or even the 2009 Yamaha, much less aggressive and often looking timid and careful. Now is that because of the bike, his head, skipping outdoors, more competition or all of the above? dunno. If he doesn't stay with JGR I believe its because he thinks he is going to kill himself or get injured badly with the type of crashes he has been taking. I think as Coy and Jbone have said James doesn't know what to do right now, stay with JGR, a lot of $$ and a chance at Nascar but not feel safe, or break a contract, ride for very little $$ and no chance at Nascar. Tough call.
Dude....thank you for that well thought out reply! They are hard to come by here now days. I haven't honestly heard the Ferry or Ping interviews , but had heard about them.

Crap.....who friggin' knows really? If those guys say it's a crap bike....maybe it is. I know a few other riders have stated the same thing.

If James can get on something that he feels comfortable on and his mind believes it......it would be a great thing to see. If he is scared shitless of the Yamaha for numerous reasons.......for the life of me I can't understand why he signed with JGR. I think that he was hoping maybe JGR could work miracles with the bike and get it setup for him. Seems like that didn't happen.

I wonder how long JGR will stick with Yamaha? Just wonder how long their contract / arrangement is with yamaha?

Yeah no prob Jeffro.
I do think James should have communicated with JGR better, but I would bet he is very much on the fence about what to do, and wanted to be sure he has somewhere to go.

One thing for sure is he needs to stop hitting the ground so hard and often, if he wants to live a normal life after racing.

Is there any room in this argument to say that Stewart's lack of success the last few years is due to a combination of factors including the bike, age, deeper field of competition, lack of focus and not racing the outdoors, because that is what I think.

That's crazy talk, I would say no way possible.

Personally I think he will struggle Outdoors after not racing them for three years and on a new bike. Dungey, Alessi, Weimer, Brayton, Millsaps etc... will be hard to beat consistently.

and people wonder why some people don't like his style or him personally.

my ole man would have kicked my ass if i pulled shit like that as a pro under contract.

wait a sec...maybe jame's dad is pulling all this shit and little james has nothing to say in the matter.

as an employee under contract the common courtesy that james is lacking is unacceptable. i would not hire this guy if it was the last rider available unless it was on a win/incentive basis only.

who disagrees with me?
Wiley wrote:

I also disagree.

While I am sure Kit Palmer and Cycle News printed exactly what Albrecht said, I also expect that Albrecht is professional enough not to say everything that COULD be said. Instead, he said what he could.

He said he didn't know what James' decision is. He DIDN'T say if team owners Coy or Joe have been talking to him.
He said he thinks James has lost confidence in the bike. He DIDN'T say if the team has been pressuring Yamaha to make certain specific changes to regain that confidence, and they're waiting on that decision from Japan before they make another move.

Face it, we're all blowing smoke until the press release comes out, just like with RV's injury, only this is about 50 times more complicated.

I think that fact that he still attended to sponsor business (a commercial shoot) while he's injured is a demonstration of professionalism, not a lack of it.

By the way, does anyone know which hand is inured? If it's his writing hand, that would go a long way toward explaining why he doesn't want to sit in the pits signing autographs... that and the fact that the fans will constantly ask him questions that he is not at liberty to answer until the JGR/Yamaha deal is settled.

Is there any room in this argument to say that Stewart's lack of success the last few years is due to a combination of factors including the bike, age, deeper field of competition, lack of focus and not racing the outdoors, because that is what I think.
Gabriel.......I tend to think the same way.....as it could be a combination of a bunch of different things. One thing is for certain............if you add ALL those things together that you listed.....it would add up to a huge amount of pressure that could screw with someone's mind.

I'm a little hard on Stewart at times.....because he pisses me off sometimes. But the bottom line is.....I don't want to see him leave this sport so soon. I would rather see him get on a bike ( weather it's his own team or not )....and say "Hell yeah!.....I love this bike!"

But it has to be a bike of his choosing.......because he said he loved the Yamaha at first as well. If he can do that , maybe we can see some of the old "Bubba" back out there again? I will also add , that if he misses the outdoors again this year......it will do nothing but hurt.

Please give me some proof that "he's making every excuse to not race" and how "he's still trying to hang on to that FMOTP title and wring it for every penny he can." Give me some quotes of him saying those types of things. I have popcorn. I'll wait. Thanks.
FMOTP - Watch a current episode of Bubble's World, guarantee you'll hear it at least once if not more = he hasn't been the FMOTP for a few years now, but yet he still uses the tag line, straight from the horses mouth.

Every excuse not to race, did you not read the update from JA from the original post? "Hand hurts" (but he can and HAS ridden with it as it currently is), "just not comfortable", how many more do you need? Ya, he's making excuses.

Maybe you need more popcorn.
