Who would want invest a dime with Brooks when he alienates the star riders on his teams?
It seemed to work out pretty well back when he and MC were together.

He hasn't had that luck with keeping riders since then. Maybe Larry started to think he was the reason for winning?

Does that mean no go for Hahn on a factory Honda?

Will Shorty be running an FMF/YOSHIMURA combo and a Honda Pro Oils/Motul synthetic blend?

Wow, there are some goofy people up in here.

McGrath wasn't going to most of the races, and didn't know who his team's associate sponsors were.

Brooks lost a title sponsor and hastily signed a flaky one, so they can't pay their only guy. So no, he didn't keep him in this case. As a sponsor, I'd sure be pissed if I was expected to keep the operation rolling when our one guy is out.

I think LB is a great manager, and there is no doubt Jeremy loves the sport. But ownership is a completely different ball of wax. What's goofy?
Brooks didn't lose the title sponsor, Stewart's actions did.

There's only 4 to 5 guys that really have a shot at winning. Are you saying there shouldn't be any teams for the other 15 to 16 riders? Now that's a way to grow a sport, only have 4 to 5 guys race, nobody else can afford to because there's no support.

interesting how this thread that I started to get feedback on what people thought about promoters "stealing" sponsors, but more importantly sponsor money to run teams, and a high profile one at that.............turned pretty quickly into a discussion about whether the rider sucks or not and even deserves to race...............to steal a phrase "afuckinmazing"..............

Maybe you should be more specific. How did Feld "steal" money from the L&Mc team?

Feld has been accused of this time and again but I'm not so sure they are guilty as people want to believe.

If I have major money to spend do I want to get guaranteed exposure via Feld or take my chances on rider x and team YZ ?

honestly have no idea..........just saw it over in the ghost town and thought maybe more insight here.........why I posted......

and why I quoted stealing.......just a phrase.........and for sure it happens...........somebody (team) brings in a new sponsor and ultimately it goes from the team to the promoter........very rare that it is big big company like a monster or red bull who have the cash to do it all..........

and you're 100% right 500 guy..........what and where is it better spent???........exactly the point of discussion I was hoping to get and not turn into throwin Short under the bus.............just this time it is a high profile team and not 2nd tier guys...........

So I finally found what you guys are talking about from over there in ghosttown (glad to see the friday fan of the week is still going strong Smile ) Didn't L & Mc know that they lost the Indian money before the season even started? The logos certainly didn't make it on the rig and bikes. So why is this just now becoming an issue and the rig is being parked? This seems like another typical LB team issue where everyone is talking but no one is saying anything.

Exactly what I was wondering.

Also, I wonder if this squashes the chance of Barcia running Canard's bike in Seattle and Salt Lake City...

Man I wish I was in a bar and you said this and Shorty over heard you and went to kick your ass, and jackie Short stop him and she kicks you in the balls dropping you to the scummy ground. But if you feel you can only appreciate #1 guys, then so be it. Well just had to get a little angry and I'm sorry for that. I know short excels in the outdoors, so I really hope he can prove a bunch of people wrong in the outdoors.

My one critisism of LB is: His championships come as the result of hiring established champions (MC, Stewart, etc.). He does not have a track record for developing riders into champions & with this latest venture, nothing has changed. In my eyes, this is what has made DeCoster & Payton so good & to suprisingly for me Larocco is becoming one of the top managers as well. I never thought Larocco had the people skills, but he is finding, getting & making some potential great champions.

true but if Honda threw some $$$ Chad's way I am sure he would listen and maybe change his tune if it weren't coming out of his pocket. IMHO, Short has as much if not more win potential than Townley has at this time in their careers. Both would have podium potential.....
Short has more potential to win than Townley?

Andrew Short has never seen the day he could kick my ass in a bar fight. Besides he is a nice guy and a good rider. He just doesn't have winning speed all the almost and nearly's don't change that. The results don't lie he has had a few flashes of brilliance over the years and he is consistent. Give me a guy like Tomac who can win any day over a mid pack veteran that is searching for a few more glory rides before he calls it a career.

The question is does Feld take Sponsors from Teams or do the Sponsors migrate to a better ROI ?

if I'm San Manuel do I go for another rider with Bubba or do I go with Feld and get my exposure ?

Yeah, well...bar fights don't pay the bills, and it's hard to make a career out of them. Not that any sane person would want to.

I doubt Andrew Short has ever been to a bar. I also didn't bring it up that other dude did. I personally think Shorty is a super good positive dude. That doesn't change the podium results though.

great points 500 guy........guess as with most advertising/marketing expenditures how much does it cost and what do you get......ez in most media as you can calculate a CPM.........pretty ez in most 4 wheeled motorsports as several outlets that provide details of exposure........

one of the big problems why SX and especially MX don't get as much love as NASCAR..........just not enough accredited eyeballs on it...........and the bottom line for most companies is TV time.......

but hard to say as it seems san manuel is 2nd rate sponsor on the series.........I was in phoenix and didn't see much if anything from them, on TV just have seen a few banners along with all the other banners..........so how much did that cost??

if you're on james you're gettin alot, if he wins or loses, as he gets alot of TV and media time......IF he finishes races, which hasn't been the case this year, let alone start them............anyway alot of potential scenarios...............

will be interesting to see what happens with Discount Tire as it is the first outside industry, non energy sponsor in some time and what they signed up for is on the sidelines..............which probably why it was so crucial for Reed to get an actual potential contender or stay home......

Larry said on a podcast with Matthes right around A1 that the San Manuel thing with Feld was a multi-year deal that was carried over from last year and that they will be gone next year. They have sponsored both the series and a team since they came on board with SX.

Now all of sudden Feld stole them as a sponsor? Either Larry was lying earlier in the year or certain board members on Mototalk are jumping to conclusions (or Larry has changed his story). I don't know which is true but I'm going with the board members jumping to conclusions!

Matthes seems to think otherwise.
"Look for Andrew to be pitted out of the factory Honda truck this weekend in New Orleans without any of his old primary sponsors logos anywhere"
That's from his new piece on bubba/jgr.

thread over on another board says L & Mc got screwed by several sponsors not payin the rent.............and alot of them gave money to Feld instead of payin the bills............sad but true that this has been goin on for decades when the promoters smell blood and put the hammer down.........

one of the best quotes ever regarding sponsorship was from Bill and Jerry West, one of the original SX promoters........thier take on it was this........"well boys, we're all robbin from the same train"..........classic and still goin strong it seems!!
This is very common in running a team at this level. There are many out there who have faced the very same thing, that aren't as well off as MC or LB.

To bad it doesn't make headlines for them.

Do you have details?
