Man, don't worry about any of that, I have tear-offs! I always enjoy being able to discuss things with folks here and learn some stuff for better and for worse.

By the way, Peelout, back in 1987 McGrath won his first two motos in the C class and then got second in the final moto. I have the guy's name and found him on Facebook -- he's from Georgia -- and I really hope he gets back with me for an interview, like a 5 Minutes of Whatever Happened to the Guy Who Beat Jeremy McGrath in the Novice Class?

Holy crap....you have got to be kidding me!

First off....I raced 250 Int , +25A and +30A for years.......and I think exactly the opposite of you do on this matter. You're crying because RC may take you down one place in the overall.......so your trophy may be slightly smaller? I don't get that at all.

I would gladly get knocked down one position to just have a chance to race / ride with him. But you come in here and bitch because "it's not fair".......Holy crap....I have seen some whining in my days.....but dude , you just took the cake.

So....let me get this strait........you think no former pro's should be allowed to race Loretta's......in the "A" classes? What classes would you prefer them to ride? Or don't you think they should ever be allowed to race at all?

Better yet....lets penalize RC and other past champions by not ever letting them race again....unless it's at a national or SX!

It's either all or nothing!

Sure glad you don't run a track man........I know I wouldn't ride there.
So just how is it fair? The greatest mx racer of all time wants to drop down and destroy some classes at ll's and u think that is somehow fair? What can rc possibly prove or satisfy by crushing the mere mortals at ll's? Its not fair its sad....

Every year, we get the same complaints, but about different classes. We change one thing, another problem emerges. It's hard to make it all fit and make everyone happy, but we do try....

I am all up for suggestions, whether it's another class just for Pros-of-a-certain-age, or maybe another Two-Strokes-only class, or drop a couple for longer motos.....

Add it all up and it's an ongoing, ever-evolving conversation that helps the race.

How about you let everyone who qualifies get to pick who they race against so they can be guaranteed a win? You know kind of like we picked teams in school but this time instead of team members we get to pick our competitors. Woohoo

Life isn't fair. He's not dropping down, he's eligible to race and that's what he's going to do. Or not, i don't know. He has nothing to prove, just likes to ride/race his dirt bike.

I race the +25 class now and got worked over by Reynard in one of the qualifiers. Given that I started racing at 23 I don't have any grand illusion of defeating past champions who have been riding forever, but I do enjoy the competition (not that I was competition for him, but the challenge of it I guess is what I mean). If somehow I make it into Lorretta's I think it would be that much sweeter to line up against the GOAT, Reynard, etc, but if not, least I gave it a shot.

In a few years maybe I'll make it into the 30b/c class. They might not have the name to go with it, but I bet the guys at the front of that class can ride a little too (I have a couple friends who have ridden it at LL's and yes, the b/c class is very fast too). It's a National Championship, it's supposed to be hard.

so because he accomplished more in the sport than any other rider ever, and started riding and enjoying the sport at a very young age.... now that he just want's to go to the races and enjoy himself, you think he should just all of a sudden never want to race or enjoy the sport that has been his life all these years?

who the hell are you to tell anyone that they can't race anymore?

What's the guy supposed to do? Just never race again? Yeah, he's taking the spot of one amateur out there that would have made it but really, if he wants to come out and have some fun then what should he do? He's got to go through the qualifiers like everyone else so I say there shouldn't be a problem as long as he goes by the rules of the game.

It's also not like factory's are signing anyone out of the plus 25 class anyway... Let him have fun and let the fans enjoy watching him again.

All this does is bring more exposure to a sport we love and want to grow.

Are past champions still grandfathered into the fast 40 of a national?

DC, any progress on getting all the past LL results on the MX Sports website? I know you mentioned it at one time.

The amount of conversation about this makes me even more nostalgic for the days when a top national rider would show up at a local event in a box vab with a mechanic, two girlfriends (with nary an implant in sight) and a dog. And all of us local riders were stoked to line up with them. I know when Howerton, Stackable and Wise showed up, I wasn't going to get top three money, but it was a real thrill to see how long I could keep them in sight, which usually wasn't very long.

I remember when Keith and Kevin Johnson and justin buckelew would show up for local races. It would always add a level of excitement for us racers and for the fans to see how fast they'd go around a track. I could only imagine the memory's RC made for some of those young kids and dreams he made come true for many at that race. I think it's cool all around.

It is fair as long as you are in the age group. I don't think a little trophy is what RC is after either....do you? No....it's about enjoying the sport he loves. And what is really sad is little cry babies like yourself that would take some stupid little piece of plastic....over the memory of being able to ride/race against a legend........how fucking pathetic is that? THAT.....is sad.

Let me guess.....you're all for the "All the kids get trophies no matter where they place" huh? Go back to watching soap operas.

Weimer and Seibler (Seibler still shows up every now and then) used to come to some of the local races and stomp everyone. when Jake was signed to Factory Connection after doing really well at Lorrettas, he raced at our track in Ogden still on his Suzuki's and it was incredible how great he was on our track. I remember he was jumping a big table and clearing the downside of a double another 80-90 feet away. the fastest guys around never even looked at it like it was a possible jump, but he hucked it like it was a normal thing.

MC, Factory Phil, and a few others showed up at a little Salt Lake race in the 90's in their box-vans and kicked the shit out of everyone. it was just cool to everyone there that we were riding on the same track as the big guys.

The winningest rider in the history of our sport or any former champion being allowed to compete at LLs for an "amateur" title in any class is a complete joke.

RC drove up there from Tallahassee -- about five hours -- with his dad, his good friends Winn Peoples, JH and Justin and InsiderMX.com's Austin White, and they hung out at the races, watched college basketball on Saturday night, and then raced on Sunday in two classes. He was stoked to see fast kids like Jeremy Martin (very early Rookie of the Year candidate for 2013), Summers, Savatgy, Owen, Bell, Cianciarulo and more, and he rode like he was having fun -- but very rusty. Then he and his dad and friends drove home.

RC's not making any big comebacks -- he is an amateur now in the sense that he hasn't had a pro license since 2007 -- though if he races LL it will be Junior +25 and 450 Pro Sport, which is what both Jeff Emig did and Robbie Reynard did (and what Tim Ferry yet may do, though I will have to ask Steve Matthes!)

He posed for hundreds of photos and autographs, rode in his own gear and wasn't hiding from anyone. He just wanted to do a race and I was stoked on how he didn't even get mad at the kid who ran him up high over a berm on the start of the second Pro Sport moto. He gave the kid the thumbs-up afterwards! He just wanted to race his dirt bike again after a long time of not racing, and it was pretty cool to watch.

Maybe it is a really good April Fool's joke, it would be a really good one, and he really is going to race the Nations?

How great would that be?

Yes it is. But if that is what it takes to get K Walker out of the record holder position, so be it!

Two questions for you -

1 Why do you think it's a joke?
2 Have you been to Loretta's to race?
