Avoid oils that say "Energy Conserving" as part of the rating to prevent clutch slippage.

Maxima 530MX Synthetic is all my bikes, even the pit bike. My other option is Motul 300V

Simply buy Rotella T 15W-40 then change your oil every other ride, and you are golden.

I've been very obsessed with what oil to put into my bike lately. I've been doing a ton of research. Here’s a great thread to read if you want to learn more than you ever wanted to know about motor oil. With all the research I've done on oil forums and everywhere else I can, I've come to the conclusion of using Rotella T6. This is in a 2010 YZ450F.

FYI, Rotella T6 5w40 Synthetic (Blue bottle, $22.00/gallon) and Rotella T 15w40 (White bottle, $13.00/gallon) are both JASO-MA certified. This means these oils pass the same tests that all other motorcycle oils have to pass for half the price. You'd be much better off using oil that cost half the amount and changing it twice as often. I will also be sending a sample of the Blackstone labs after 6 hours of riding to make sure the additives are still functional and it hasn't sheared down to a lower weight.

Had an 2 stroke Kawi years ago that had a clutch worse than the "light switch" models on the Yamies of the day. An old codger of a friend told me to run Type-F tranny fluid in it and it would smooth that right out.


I'll be damned if he wasn't right. I changed it after every weekend for 95 cents a quart and never had a problem with the clutch or gears.

I just run the regular Kawaski 10-40 or Maxima 10-40 , non synthetic, get a great price from my dealer on gallon jugs and no problems at all. I know lots of people that use Rotella but I get this for same price so I just have a hard time trying Rotella due to all the extra stuff in it.

And for the two strokes I run Amsoil Dominator and am really sold on it as it burns clean and no issues.

Rekluse recommends Shell Rotella T and they know their stuff. I use it in both sides of my CRF450R and love it. Also use it in my Cummins and pretty much anything that isn't a 2-stroke. Wal-Mart.

Honda GN4 10-40 in both sides.

I have been thinking about switching to Rottella T but the Honda GN4 oil isn't to bad at $21 at gallon.

Rotella T 15-40 in everything I own, from wife's Caddy to my little boys CRF 50. Cant beat it 600.00 a 55 gallon drum at Sam's club. That way i don't ever have to question changing my oil, just do it! I also buy it that way because my 6.4 liter Ford diesel engine takes 15 quarts a change! Oh yeah I change all my bikes oil every other ride, my 07 CRF450 still runs and sounds great!

Same here. I have been using Rotella 5w40 for years with no issues. I had shifting issues using the T 15-40
