I didn't think Ricky would even make the night show let alone be in position to make the main, not because of his ability just because the bike disadvantage.

I have to say I was very impressed and will not under estimate him at the next one.
I'm really glad I'm not the only one that thought that.

Hope no body takes this wrong but..I would go through Varner at Varnermotorsports.com for any motor work..varner is the 2-stroke guy..

We did the Gorr 144 and it was a mess..we had to send Gorr's cylinder to Varner to get it fixed right...then it flat ripped..and is still running strong..

You get about 8 hours on the 144 before doing a top-end....maybe more for a trail rider..but pinned all the time..8 hrs

All this talk about a 144. You guys crazy?
He shows up at inspection, after blabbing about it all over the the effin' internet
for 2 weeks, they just might make him pull the head at tech insp.
If it's a 144, he doesn't run.
The rule says 125.

Seems to me the 144 is out, he's going to have to run the 125.

Another thing.
Catching everyone by surprise last week was kinda cool.
But nobody on a 250f is going to want to be the guy that got beat by a 125.
Nobody.

Is 19 cc really that big of a deal? We will see some more clutch abuse for sure, but peak power is what? 2 hp more?

This will be sweeter, a 125 seems to rev a bit further! Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

The 144 is all about mid range...You have to shift alot to keep them in the sweet spot..A stock 125 with the right porting is nice too..

If I had to run a stock 125 it would be ported with a few mills off the head..I would run v-vorce reeds and a FMF SST pipe with a pro-circuit shorty..

With that set up you have more rev out in every gear..ya dont have to shift as much..rev to the moon..

But..if he does run a big bore cheater..And gets tore down after the race..he can demand that some of the PC bikes and a few of the other 250f also be checked...may open up a bag of worms..I think they will leave him alone..

We have run cheater bikes for years...and found what works best and what don't...we went through 10 85s when my son was coming up through the ranks..

Cheating at the amateur level?

Setting perfect examples at a young age. I NEVER ran a cheater bike and would NEVER be allowed to by my father. Just on the principle fact that you cant even be proud of what you did.

I raced against people that cheated and beat them on a constant basis.

I don't call what Renner did cheating, because he is at a severe disadvantage. I call it breaking the rules. He gained nothing on no one by running the 144.

And you will say, Other kids cheated so we did too. But there were kids that couldn't afford to cheat or didn't have the audacity to cheat. I know my family could only afford one bike, and it was well taken care of but it was the only one we had.

Parked next to people that had three our four bikes. And it made it even better when we smoked them. Life works like that, some get by and some get caught but in the back of your mind and your kids, you honestly couldn't say you did shit right. And you will never know if you could have won with out cheating.

Cheaters and people that lie and steal are on the bottom of my shit list.

Agree... he will be targeted by the AMA Racing. We all know its bullshit because a PC/FC 250F is pushing serious ponies. If he is going to big bore it.... go with a 167cc.

Varner is a hell of a tuner.

I was texting with Varner early today and he said most 144s couldn't pull a greasy string out of a cats ass...cracked me up..

Varner builds some arm pulling stroker motors...And the dude can port a cylinder like no other..

If the AMA pulls some B.S. like that , Perhaps, we should all drop our memberships. Of course if he WINS I would expect them to look at the bike. But otherwise Hands off AMA!!

Then state that bro.

It wouldn't be a CHEATER bike if you were running the supermini class or an open class. So no need to call it that if its not.

But how you stated it, made it seem that you were running a cheater bike in a class that doesn't call for it.

Sorry...as much as I love 2 strokes and those that take on the challenge of racing one, cheating just puts a small damper on it.

Rules are rules.

With that said, hope he does well at N.O. on a 125.

I said it earlier and ill say it again .... He SHOULD run at least a 144 even possibly a 151 or 167. Staying with the 144 imo if he did well I would hope it would make the AMA at least pull their heads out of their asses and REVISE the rule to compensate for the severe disadvantage a 125 is at and make an amendment. There is no reason that the Lites rule shouldn't be AT LEAST a 144 for 2 strokes

Ricky please run the 144 as I believe it may have a profound effect on the way the rules which are currently in place. It has to start somewhere and yes the first to do anything groundbreaking usually have a tough go at it but pave the way for future things to come..... I hope he does run a 144 for that reason alone.

Seems logical that the time to change rules would not be mid-year but I've seen the AMA do it before. In the early to mid-nineties they took away a weight advantage given to twin cylinder bikes in Superbike roadracing competition mid-season. Troy Corser was doing well and leading points in the series on a Ferracci Ducati. The Japanese, especially Honda pitched a bitch and lo and behold the AMA changed the rules and took away the twins 53 lb weight advantage! Corser did go on and win but Ducati never really seemed competitive after that and eventually pulled out of the series. The weight advantage was given to the twins (as well as a displacement advantage) to try to put them on par with the four cylinders the Japanese were running.

This whole chain of events is being repeated in AMA Supercross/Motocross with the two stroke four stroke situation. I don't anticipate the AMA/MX Sports will make any changes to the current rule disparity unless the Japanese decide it'll be a good idea for their interests. So whats left is guys like Renner going their own way, maybe shining a light so to speak for low budget privateer efforts to see.

Thats what I been saying..For some reason people think the 144 is a big deal..The 144 is all mid range..You have to be shifting to keep it there..you go past and it falls flat..If you watch the practice video of Renner.it was like shift dude! he was at times at the flat spot (no more rev) or the kaaboom spot..lol

The 144 is a great choice for a fat guy that still wants to ride a 125..

Now the 3 mill stroker, reeds,FMF SST pipe...reves to the moon...1 bigger on the rear sprocket works best with that 6 speed..

Just want to feel apart of it I guess..Not ranking your riding at all..It just looked like you were asking for more out of that 144 and it wasen't giving it to ya..Thats all..There are alot of us 2-stroke guys on here that are been there done that guys..as far as motors go..

We feel ya Renner..You rock the 2-stroke like no other..

For 2-strokes guys...waiting for New Orleans is like a kid waiting for X-Mas or like a Lab pup waiting for opening day duck season..lol

Good Luck..

The KTM 150SX has a longer stroke along with a larger bore over the 125SX. Real shame KTM two strokes aren't on the approved machine list for Supercross this year. Anybody know what happened there? What would it take to be re-instated? It's been approved for several years surely just a paperwork thing to get re-approved, could be done now if requested?
