How much does a privateer get paid to make the pro SX main and finish in the back of the pack in 250 class?
FEES:
Entry is $200?
PAYOUT:
Back of pack finish $?
Any other payouts in it for them besides sponsors and contracts?
How bout for 450 class?

That's just plain embarrasing...

How come the we dont hear the riders complaining about the money only the dipshits on vital.
Back on topic, apparently you both missed my point entirely, and feel some inner burden to defend the sport for some reason that I don't understand and which doesn't make any sense (Does the sport really need someone to defend it? Did I hurt its feelings by making fun of its purse money? Okay, then why get all defensive about it?)....anyway, I'm basing that number ONLY on purse pay out...and its absolutely embarrasing that supercross (the absolute pinnacle of dirt bike racing) pays such a small amount of purse money to the riders.
Sure, some of the biggest names make far more than that...and don't even care about purse money...but that guy in 20th place in the main (the 20th best supercross racer in the entire world), pitting out of his pick up truck, HE cares about it...and it's embarrasing that he's only going to make $34K from purse money this year if he finished last in every main event...
The problem is, the presentation of the sport is "big" but in reality, it's small. There isn't a lot of money to be put out, atleast not from industry companies. The promoters may have it, but the sponsors don't... yet.
What FELD does do a great job of doing though, is they make the sport appear bigger. That is a good thing and will continue to help bring in more outside sponsors that do have the money to support riders. Problem is, right now that money is only going to the front half of the field... err or even front 1/5 of the field.
If the sport can continue to grow, there will be more money coming in, but is riders pitting out of vans and pickups holding it back? I don't know.
I do think they could pay out better, but I also do commend FELD for helping promote the sport to new levels through their event presentation and TV package.
don't forget the end of the season bonuses for the top 20. 20th gets a $8600 bonus!
Pit Row
All of these kids are MODERN DAY GLADIATORS, risking their lives to make money for the promoters. Josh Litchle even gave his last summer chasing a dream. How many broken bones, backs, or necks is it going to take for someone to do something to protect the riders. How many younger riders are sacrificing their childhoods and education and the chance to live the motocross dream. Brad Frace is in a wheel chair chasing this so called dream. Brad was fierce competitor who was right there with Bogle and Peters in the amateurs. If you think I am lying just look at the injury report and see for yourself. Someone needs to stand up for these kids, someone like Ricky, Chad, Jeff, Jeremy, and James. All of these guys have to be the voice for all of the riders (privateers) that can't speak up because they will be black balled.
Perspective into a weekend as a privateer. Start of by driving 19 hours to get to the track while sleeping in your van on the way to save money. Then you get placed in the back of the pits and have to walk twice as far to everything as you watch all of the guys in the rigs drive shining new rhinos around the pits. You go to sound check to have they rev your bike wideopen for 10 seconds to have them tell you that you fail. While you just watched a factory guy slipping on pipe after pipe, not even bolting them on. All of which passed and it seems they only need to rev their bike at 1/2 throttle for 1 second. Then you go to buy $120 tires set of tires and you are told that you can't run the same tire as the factory guys because you wouldn't like it. I am sorry but that should be the riders choice if they like it or not, and everyone should able to run the same tire. They you go out for practice and your track is rough and rutted, which effects your times. Well it is time for A practice and they groom the track completely, because I guess they need more of an advantage. Their equipment and media day track practice wasn't enough to beat the privateers lap times by 2 to 5 seconds. Now you have a crappy gate pick for the heat and you are so stressed out by the time 7pm rolls around it is amazing you can ride at all, not to mention against the best riders in the world. Then you have some JACKASS on the internet call you a loser and you are taking dirt from the track. Excuse me if I take offense to your remarks, but if you don't know what it is like to be PRIVATEER, you need to keep you mouth shut.
Record numbers of fans are going to watch Supercross, that means people like Feld are making more, hey share the wealth. A rider who is good enough to make the night show should be able to make enough money to get home on. Something needs to be done or our sport is going to lose alot more of the talented athletes (GLADIATORS) who fill stadiums accross the country to entertain us and make promoters money.
Just don't hold your breath if you're waiting for most of the people here to value anybody but the top 4 or 5 riders out there. Look at the crap that was poured on Zach Osborne a few years ago but after a few good results the same guy is now a hero. He's not changed just the perception here, so don't be too upset when morons here dismiss the aspiring guy's efforts - like you said the forum guys haven't a clue...
I have seen all this first hand at nationals and SX for years. I have helped a few along the way and am willing still. I have many thousands of dollars in helping a few over the last couple of years alone.
.....
My main reason for asking the original post was to bring light to some of this and gather some info as well. The Renner 125 thing started this last surge. My thoughts lean toward the two stroke side for personal reasons of course, but still the same scenario. A guy who is risking life and limb and IS extremely fast gets rewarded poorly or loses money unless he has the illusive team ride and all the contracts with the sponsors etc.
My thought was to take someone like Renner who can make the mains and have the "people" help him with all his expenses and put some icing on top with some incentives for mains and placing. I think we could make it more profitable for an non team guy to race a 2 stroke and come out with money in hand and a new fan base. Looks like it worked for him at Daytona because several people on Vital ponied up and now he is going to New Orleans as a result.
If we could come up with a plan for donations that equal more than the equivalent payout for the same finishes on a 250F I think we could get a racer like Renner to benefit and have a good time doing it as the “david” of the Goliath story. Americans love the underdog and we all know who is an underdog riding a 125/144 against the factory 250/267+F’s.
Go ahead, call me a dickhead, but I wouldn't continue to work in that kind of environment.
I know it was somebody from Ohio in the 90's and he tried to form a union or something......
Point is, he's telling the truth on all of this.........
Great post. wish what you said wasn't true......
