We had a fatality up here in our series, when Josh Demuth landed on a downed rider on a blind jump, the CMRC are Nazi's about jumping on yellow flags(I think all they need is a yellow, the red and white means "we need an ambulance asap" BTW). I can count dozens riders who have been penalized over the last few seasons, and its not "5 seconds, or 1 position", its 1 lap. If the AMA had ANY BALLS AT ALL, OR GAVE 2 SHITS ABOUT THE RIDERS OR THEIR SAFETY, they would implement a rule like this. Going a lap down would have cost RV2 the points lead, he would have not even considered launching the triple in that situation.

BTW, motorcycles and cars are both motorized vehicles with lethal capabilities, so my analogy is totally accurate. RV2, who I'm a big fan of, ignored 3 warnings, displaying total lack of concern for another riders safety, and the rules of the game he plays. I have been racing for 30 years and know 3 riders who are now "6 feet under" from somebody landing on them when they were down on the other side of a blind jump, some situations were not avoidable, some were pure freaking bullshit and total lack of respect for the rules and other peoples safety.

The red light analogy and police holds zero water.
And as I already stated in this thread,it depends on the position of the vehicle before the light turned red.
See my post on page 7 in this thread for a better understanding of how the system works with cases like that.

As for riders getting landed on and riders not obeying flags....
What is the shut off point?
10inches? 2 feet? 10feet? 40 feet?
The rider has to be signaled within a reasonable amount of time to know when to slow or obey the flags.
That is the argument here.
When exactly did he see and notice the red lights?
That is what you would have to prove in court, that he saw them and knowingly went and jumped it anyway with zero disregard for the downed riders safety. It's a tough one...especially with the way they had that section setup and how he was committed to the single and had to carry momentum through that corner before he seen the lights.
Ok Perry Mason, unless RV 2 is blind as a bat he would have seen the yellow waring light the second he turned into the corner, by the time he was in the apex he would have seen the flagger waving the flag, and as he is the best rider in the world I'm pretty sure he "looks down the track and not a his front fender" he should have seen the red lights flashing. I know he was in the heat of the battle concentrating on catching "the Dunge" , but he broke the rules and the "what if's" are bullshit.

I'm not from the USA( but I do respect your country and visit it annually on many occasions) nor do I know your laws or the loop holes that can be found in them. Up here in the great white north if you run a red you run a red, you broke the law and now you are responsible for your actions and the penalties for your actions. We have red light cameras up here, they do not care about "position of vehicle" or any other bullshit loop hole, we get a yellow warning light after a green that will give you ample time to slow down just like you do below the 49th. I get the odd $ 400 photo ticket in the mail, they suck.

No yellow lights yet.....
What is the shut off point?

You have a 450cc bike going how fast carrying momentum off that single when they signaled the yellow lights (which don't mean much)?
He then apexes the corner hammers it WFO.... probably looked up and seen the reds flashing.
You would have to prove when he actually seen the RED lights.
When did he see them,we need proof? I need to know exactly without any reasonable doubt what so ever.
That is how it works.
Also, the AMA makes the rules and enforces them...and wears all the hats in cases like these.
I believe he deserved a warning, which is probably what he got.
But I think there is a fair amount of doubt there to convict him on it due to how that section was setup and how you had to hammer it right out of that corner to make that triple. I think when he seen them it was possibly to late...
But only he really knows. Wink

I saw that and the first thing I told my wife was, he was not supposed to jump because of the flashing lights. I like RV but he should have not jumped. Regardless of whether or not he saw the light, he should always be looking for it, he should be penalized.

So....all the wise guys...where in this rule does it show:

Red Flashing Light:

Red Flashing Light: A red flashing light may be displayed at the beginning of a triple jump or a series of jumps. Riders must roll each jump individually with no passing and exercise extreme caution until they are past the area of concern.

1. If he saw them.
2. If he had time to slow down.
3. What is the shut off point.
4. If he's committed.
5. If he's color blind.
6. If he's been racing all his life and the yellow flag means ___.
6. If his head was down, his focus was on RD, his balls were shifted to the left, etc. ?
7. 5 second penalty

None of the above. So all of your arguments/opinions really don't mean too much.

What does mean much... AMA ruled (dumb as always) and that's that. He should of been penalized and IMO, that should be 1 position. I could care less if it was RV, JS, RD, or another 2 lettered rider. Safety is the issue, and the message the AMA is sending is..... If you can come up with excuses, we'll excuse the rulebook too.

What exactly did the AMA take into consideration when they ruled?

The shut off point does indeed matter...
If you are 3rd gear pinned on a the face or base or 2 feet or 5 feet,10feet ect.. before a jump and they flip on the reds....are you supposed to lock them up? Or should you be penalized for being at the wrong place that the wrong time,in the wrong gear, going the wrong speed?
Is it more & more unsafe to lock em up and roll them dragging the back break?
Lot's to take into consideration of why the AMA ruled the way they did.
That is part of this entire argument.
Were the yellows in the corner not flipped on soon enough ec...? Smile

A lot of people here think that RV is at best C rider with no skills and awareness of what`s going on around him. They didn`t penalize him because he couldn`t find brakes in time.

Well sorry man.....don't know what to tell you. I can tell you I had 3500 members strong and a lot of them people visit and post here. If some of those people knew it was me that ran the HindsightMX track for 4 years.....they would realize who I was.

You're not still a little butt hurt because I went off about the MDdos site are you? I already told you I didn't lump you ( and most everyone else on that site ) into the group I was referring to.

So now what? Am I still making you nervous because I have a point of view on this RV situation? I don't get it.

Now people talking about "butt hurt" from the internet would make me a lot more nervous if they were closer to my local area.
HA!!.....I know man......I have let it go. I know there are a bunch of really good guys that post over there so I don't condemn the site......I just had an issue with a couple guys a while back. No biggie. Take care dude.

I am an RV fan.. This could easily go either way... I understand he had a lot of momentum and it would have been hard to stop.. And also with focusing on the track you dont see everything around you.. But I also see the lights were indeed on.. I think he should be fined and given a 5 second penalty.. Thats about how much time he woulda lost.. Thats only fair.. But AMA doesnt know anything about that..

You fail to comprehend my point, and quite frankly, you won't change my opinion on this particular instance.

Because... It's my opinion he had plenty of time to adhere to the rule.

BTW.. I understand fully your points, just that none are in the rulebook under the "excuses" section. Wink

Again with the 5 second penalty, where are ya'll getting this from?

If you take into consideration that Stewart was less than 5 seconds behind RV AT THAT POINT of the infraction, that could of made a tremendous difference in the outcome of the race.

So.. that 5 second penalty really isn't as fair as people would assume it to be.

James,I understand your point.
But obviously something went on behind the scenes,a talk with RV by the AMA/FIM John G. I assume.
I think they had to use a bit of common sense on their ruling.
I'm 50/50 on the whole thing TBH.

From RacerX Atlanta race report:

Then a rider went down near a triple jump, and the track officials turned the red caution lights on. Dungey and Villopoto jumped the jump, then Stewart rolled it as per the rules. He lost a ton of time there and essentially lost whatever chance he might have had of winning the race. Officials then ruled that Dungey and Villopoto had already committed to the triple by the time the lights came on, and they were not penalized for jumping.

So according to this report, Dungey jumped on the red lights also. Now we can have another 9 pages of Dungey haters losing their minds as well.

Hmm. Nevermind that of the last 10 laps of the race, only on 2 of those did Stewart have a faster lap time than Villopoto. Somehow, the other 8 laps Stewart was magically catching Villopoto, even though he had slower lap times. Must be that 2012 planet alignment thing warping the space-time fabric, altering clocks, especially those near Atlanta.

Visually James was catching Ryan.
Visual override = end of discussion.
