Weston P. for a Honda fill-in ride

Edited Date/Time 2/21/2012 3:35pm
I posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread.

This kid has consistently made mains (yes Im counting Dallas as making a main) as a privateer in the toughest field ever. Before the injuries started piling up, he was the ONLY privateer to make mains and there were some team riders who he was actually bumping from the main.

It'd be a great story for one of these teams to give him a fill-in ride after last weekends fallout.

I would think that Factory Honda is looking for more than a guy making mains. But, who knows. Not many top 5 or top 10 options out there. My guess, Seely, Wilson, or Tomac. I can't really see Mitch letting Wilson ride Reed's bike, but Reed and Mitch are pretty tight and maybe Mitch feels like he can do Chad a favor since Chad pretty much ran a full PC bike last year.

Shit, maybe KTM will let Cairoli come over and give Chad's bike a spin?

Try reading comprehension on why I said Mitch "might" let Wilson fill in. Your reading comprehension will also let you see that I said I can't see it happening but could see how Mitch might let it happen.

Mich might but every rider on the team is also signed with Kawasaki and they'd never let it happen. Scooby doo has a better chance.

I'm sorry, but after reading his RacerX Privateer Profile interview, I don't think that kid deserves a fucking thing unless he pays for it himself. He comes off as being one ungrateful little bastard. He's probably a really nice kid, but he sure came off wrong in this interview.

I think these are your best bet. Seeley, Tomac, Mike800, Barcia/Windham for only outdoors, and the wildcard Pourcel....... :0

There's as much chance of Mitch allowing Dean to fill in as there is of Roger D. coming out of retirement and lining up next weekend.

I'm thinking of instituting a minimum IQ level for posting here. You may want to work on your posts. Right now you're well below the minimum on the common sense side.

Yeah, I don't see where you're coming from T-Fish. He seemed fine to me.

I don't think he deserves a factory ride though. Then again, there's not many options out there

Kid wants to get paid for being part of the show. I don't see anything wrong with that.

We aren't talkng about a vet racer thinking he should be compensated for his local district domination.

The only thing they do for me is they take my bike to the races, they supply me bikes and they feed me at the races.
Gee, that's it? Shame on Rock River.

I’m trying to find someone to buy me a bike He did say right after that that he'd get one if nobody else bought one.
Buy one yourself.

I feel like I deserve to have someone to help me out, I don’t need a salary, I just want to get expenses paid.
Uh, Rock River was helping him out. Providing a bike, taking it to the races, and food at the races all add up to someone helping him out. What else does he want from them, maybe pay his cell phone bill?

Like I said, he's probably a really nice kid, but this interview really rubs me wrong. It seems he should have worded things much different than he did.

Well then take my word for it, he's a SUPER nice kid.

And of course Honda wants someone better than just a guy who makes mains. But he's doing it on equipment that is not even in the same ballpark as a mid to top tier team.

It'd be nice to see what he could accomplish given some quality shit. Im definitely not one of these queers who thinks that just because a guy is nice he "deserves a shot". I honestly think that given the circumstances with Honda, the lack of talen availablet, and what he's shown...that he has earned a 3 race contract to see what he's made of. The kid's never been on decent equipment ever, that I can recall. Correct me if Im wrong.

Plus, it'd be kinda cool to see a chubby kid up in the mix. Add some color to this sport since it just lost 40% of its personality with Reed and TC going down.

Or fuck, just give a ride to Scott Champion so we can see more of Erin. Either way, I dont care.

I believe 100% that he's a super nice kid, as I don't think I've met anyone at that level that isn't.

He's had some nice rides and it would indeed be nice to see him (or anyone else) take Reed's bike and get some of the best rides they've ever had and perhaps open some eyes.

Here we go again with the factory fill in riders. Like it was said above Honda is not looking to put somebody on the bike to maybe make a main. And really put Wilson who I'm sure Kawasaki pay's his salary on a Honda ???

I just don't see how telling the truth qualifies as being a spoiled brat?

That year Weston didn't have a team ride so he was clarifying that Rock River was just bringing bikes and helping him with things.
Rock River was not giving him a bike to my knowledge they supplied him with something to ride but it was not his bike.

Every pro rider tries to get someone else to buy their bikes.
Would you buy one if there was a chance you could save that $7-8K to help pay for driving yourself all over the country and paying all your own fees and expenses?

That interview was given right after Weston found out that the new team that Chaplin Kawasaki had signed him on for the outdoors had folded in like 2 days because of Alderton flaking out on the deal.
I think you would be hard pressed to sound upbeat and happy when your entire seasons plans had just been ripped out from under you at the last minute.

If you read anything into his RacerX piece, you should read that he's frustrated. Frustrated with being passed over by guys who cant stay out of rehab. Guys who dont give a shit.

Weston rides with a chip on his shoulder. He's hungry. And he's durable. He'd do well in the fill in spot. I say top 10's in the beginning would not be out of the question. And after a couple races, who knows what he's capable of. Weve never seen him on a good bike.

To bad mouth a rider and to say he doesnt deserve a ride cause hes not in the top five really shows me how little these people know saying this about the real world of just trying to make the main. Just getting into the night show top forty is a major acomplishment alone. I SAID TOP 40 these are the Best riders in the world all them deserve a free ride sure some deserve more than others'''''' but to say Pike doesnt is to show how little a person knows how hard these guys try and how hard they work just to get into the main.. the differance between top ten and top forty is those top 10 guys that can show up at the track and every thing is ready to go for them or top 40 having to do it all including having family have to be your mechanic to begging to have someone haul your bike from round to round just so you can get a couple days riding in during the week before the race.. I dont know Pike personally but have talked to him and his pops in pits ''' they are the kind of people that if i had the money to help i would THEY DESERVE HELP they work hard and they are good people.

I like Peick even better now.

Rock River is still cool, they hook alot of people up with what they can.

Sometimes the guy hearing something is the asshole and not the guy saying something.
2/20/2012 4:51pm
I'm a fan of Peick's and hope to see his career progress, but the boy has got to lose some weight. Unless you have the talent of Marty Tripes, Joel Robert or Jo Jo Keller, being considered 'burly' is only gonna hinder your chances of getting a good ride. I won't argue that being slimmer would improve his results, but it would certainly get the sponsors' attention and improve their perception of him.

Last year before outdoors and right around the time the Chaplin deal fell apart, Weston's dad Lou came on here asking for any kind of support they could get. I watched people trash both Lou and Weston for even sticking their neck out to see if anyone would be willing to help them out.

I told Lou if there was any way they could get to Freestone I'd cover Weston's entry fee. I got to talk to Weston before the race and he's a cool dude who just wants to race his dirt bike. He went down on the start, but got back up and rode as hard as he could until his bike finally just grenaded due to overheating issues. The kid doesn't make excuses, he's a hard worker and doesn't quit or give up on anything, even when he knew his bike was headed south and he just went as long as it would allow.

He's got a fan here, and it'd be cool to see him get a little help or maybe a fill in ride for a round or two.
