i don't have a daughter, but i imagine it would be pretty cool to be able to take her to races and show her the likes of Ashley Fiolek and others...
This project should have paid off by now? How many female buyers did Honda create out of this experiment? 10 bikes?
As much of an old school Honda fan as I am, they've really screwed the pooch with me on anything current whether auto or moto related. I would say equipmentwise too, but that GX390 on my generators and pressure washer is keeping them hanging on by a thread. That's the perfect place for a thumper.
I respect the hell out of DC for everything he does and the manner in which he does it(t-shirt,jeans and emptying garbage cans when he sees they are full), but it doesn't mean I have to like the current state of a few things moto related. When the 125 class comes around on the national scene, things will be looking up.

6 rounds 125cc Outdoor National Championship for starters.

The guys will run more than the entire WMX series in the first two rounds, I'd find it hard to be motivated.
If the WMX was hyped or promoted even half as much as the men, it would lead to more public interest; if the compensation to the women were even half as much as the Men, it just might make things more competitive. For a privateer to spend over $15,000 per season in just travel expenses, to simply get to the national events for one 20 minute shootout = discouraging.
Entry Fees, Licensing fees, etc are not discounted for the women to participate in a National event; which now gets them 1/2 the seat-time; they ride the same track, after the men, and are then left to self-promote, or rely on their sponsors for representation/publicity.
Many of these women work fulltime just to be able to afford to participate in this program, training in-between, every bit as hard as the men to prepare for a race, doing so with full knowledge that the inequality of compensation alone is beyond measure.
Television time is great, but I'd like to know if they'll be on the same network as the Men, and will the WMX Motos be broadcast in the same timeline, or as a lookback at the season? Reducing to a 1 Moto format eliminates the opportunity for the athletes to compete effectively. And it's not Motocross.
Does a seeded gate pick mean just a one practice format?
To deny anyone who has attained this level of athleticism equal seat-time, recognition & promotion they deserve and were promised, is just wrong.
If the MX Sports promotion of the Pro Women in Motocross is not aggressively marketed, it negates the years of hard work that Mike Keller and thousands of female athletes across the country put in to give validity to the Women’s position in this sport. Countless Amateur Women MX’ers across the country may come to the realization that their dream of a career in the sport is ultimately viewed as a hobby by the Organization. Without the support of MXSports, and follow-through, the advancement and recognition due this group of dedicated female athletes is setback light-years.
When the WMX was sold to MX Sports in 2009, Davey Coombs stated that “We are finally in a position to provide the Women racers the treatment they have earned in the series . On the Marketing side, the Women’s Class will be included in the MX Sports television package and will be featured in the live webcast at each round where they compete.”
”
Honda Red Bull, DNA Shred Stix, and KTM and others, have finally recognized the value of adding Pro Women to their teams; MX Sports has the power to continue the momentum, by promoting the Womens Program in the best possible light, which would enhance the sponsorship opportunities for all of the women, increasing public awareness & interest. They deserve some hype.
They are so dedicated, hardworking, and live and breathe simply for the chance to ride. We are inspired by their talent, commitment and perseverance, and are touched by the struggles they face just to get to a race.
MX Sports – In your own words, you are in a position to provide the Women racers the treatment they have earned in the series...
Please do it.
Lets be candid here. There is no doubt that the ladies work hard to achieve their goals, but forcing this on the buying public under the guise of political correctness and an entitlement mentality just causes resentment.
No amount of promotion and hype is going to help make womens motocross a marquee sport. And for the record your complaints about having to work two jobs, training in between, doing your own promotion.... Basically sounds like you're whining and bitching that you have to do the same thing that 99.9% of people who call themselves "Pro" have to do.

The reality is there is very little room in this sport. If there was no wmx, the women woudn't be denied an opportunity. The creation of wmx is a special separate opportunity which isolates the men from the women. Ashley is certainly permitted to race in the 250 and 450 classes (note, not the men's 250 or men's 450) and, if she ran in the top 25, she would be more popular.
Where did this entitlement mentality come from?
IMO, one major problem with the WMX is that the level of competition is awful and it's sad for the front runners. There's maybe 10 girls, again IMO, that should be considered a "Pro". These 10+ are the one's that are actually putting in the work required to be a pro.
The others, well as much as they say they want to be pro, don't put in the work needed and are in it for the "cool" factor. In the Northeast there are at least 4-5 girls that should NOT be out on the track with AF, JP$, TG and others, this is no ones fault other than the local race promoters/organizations and MX Sports. These 4-5 girls didn't earn the points to get into the B class, which is my understanding the requirement for your WMX Pro license. The promoters/parents and girls themselves bumped themselves up to race in the WMX. This shouldn't be allowed and has hurt the level of competition. Without a reason to get better, the competition will never grow.
Combining 125 youth A riders with the WMX would do wondering for everyone. The WMX would still have a series, the youth riders would gain experience riding at a higher level and the competition would go through the roof.
