I specifically remember every one of those ads except for the Bomber Barnett one. That's a testament to you hitting the nail on the head every time.

i'd like to add an obscure honorable mention. does anyone remember in the back of the magazines, in the black and white ads section, there was always that sticker company that would do the "send 50 cents for each sticker to this address" and the stickers were just ridiculous like "if you want to come in 2nd, follow me" and "in the event of crash, put rider back on bike"

those used to crack me up.

Well done Tony good story and old memories for sure. All those old Scott goggle ads where they ran the photo of just a pro's helmet with a Scott goggle with an iridium lense were also good. I think you found some for me in a thread awhile back.

I used to love those too. I think they were by a company called Stick Em Up or something to that effect. I remember I had a 78 CR250 Elsinore and at one we counted like 100 stickers I had on the damn thing. Back then I could not afford any "real" accessories so I would just put more and more stickers on the thing. Oh the wisdom of youth.

How dare you, the Steve Mathes & Tim Ferry connection at the 1999 Summercross was one of the most dynamic duos of all time! With their powers combined they toppd the king of kings, MC.

"The highlight of the year was Ferry's first Moto win at Budd's Creek where he humiliated the competition and straight up beat "The Goat" Ricky Carmichael. To this day Ferry says that it would not have been possible without the finely tuned YZ450F by his factory mechanic and soon to be media mogul Steve Matthes." (by Steve Matthes)

respect.

I never really got into ads too much, but I do remember getting goosebumps the first time I saw that Henry ad. Also, the RC whip is just insane. Disrespectful? Maybe, but that's RC for ya back then.

Nice article, man....it was a good read.

Tony, nice work on that! You could make one on the Fox ads alone, and the Oakley ads alone, and the Yamaha ads!

Very cool, thanks for pulling that together.
