great rider and really nice guy- always been a big fan of bens. He has had some terrible luck with injuries in his career, but can beat anyone when he's fully fit. He had some great battles with everts in gps in 2005, and with RV in the nationals in 2007.

We were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time at ballykelly in ireland when Ben won his 2004 world title. We decided to stay over an extra night to avoid the rush to the ferry- Ben came over and invited us to the team party to celebrate his championship, free vodka red bulls all night with ben and tyla!!! GREAT night, will never forget that (well, what i can remember of it lol)

Thanks for the pics. I've always thought BT was a stud since seeing him wheel to wheel it with RV a few years back (no one else could). Hope he stays healthy and gets back in his groove.

Nice pics. If you don't mind me contributing:

Townley hauled ass on a 125 for factory KTM in 2003. I remember in one of the GP's in the 2nd half of the year he went from a top 10 guy all of a sudden to someone who could win motos. He gave my personal hero Stefan Everts a good run for his money in 2005 also, but he had a lot of bad luck.

Many people might not know this, but he was also the first guy that gave KTM's 250 SX-F a title in 2004. That bike was pure exotica back then, because I don't think it made it to production until 2006. I don't think there has ever been a champion EVER that had so many DNF's in his championship as Townley did in 2004. He just won every race that he didn't DNF!

Doubt it. Not for 2012 anyways. Our MX season is pretty much in line with yours

I was just looking at some of my old magazines this evening, and saw an article on Ben Townley in a minirider magazine. He was 12 and riding Kawasakis, and was already making big impressions on those who mattered even back then. Great guy and great rider. I think he will break Jay Marmonts Aussie national winning streak next year.

Ben still has this bike, actually I think it's the bike in the other post, it gets put on display at some of the big race meetings here in NZ.
When you look at it up close it is a real one of a kind, you can see it was pre production etc.
Awesome bike to have in your collection, being a pre production world championship winning bike, very cool

I've been lucky enough to ride this bike !!! Ben being my favorite rider (with Reedy), i was so happy this day. And i also had the chance to ride Rattray's factory 125 the same day, it was quite an experience...

That's awesome Rangot! you were very lucky indeed. What did you think of Ben's bike? does it perform like the modern 250 4 strokes?

Great pics, thanks for posting.

I hope BT101 can make it back to the states asap, as he is such a talent.

A bloke I know in Europe called 'Little Dave', is/was a huge Ben Townley fan. He was singing his praises as a rider as soon as BT arrived in Europe in 2002 or 2003 (can't remember the exact year). Little Dave got to know Ben at the races and would often speak to him over the fence. Just before Ben left for the states, BT turned up to Little Dave's B'day. There are not many riders that would do that for a fan!! For me this sums up BT101 perfectly, a champ and a gent.

From what i remember (long time ago !!!) it had a lot more mid range power than a 125 and was by far faster than a 250 YZ-F, which was kind of a reference at the time. Don't know if it would be competitive today, though. Well, factory suspensions would be, no doubt.
