When I was a kid I had my schwinn stingray upside side down and was messing around pedaling the bike by hand, and managed to catch a finger in the chain, ouch, one of the sprocket teeth went straight through the finger nail on my middle finger I think it was. I can't remember how I got my finger out from under the chain.

I didn't get any stitches tho.... JG is a puss!

I did the same thing loading a bike into back of a van, had hold of the bottom of the fork to get extra lift as no ramp.. Dropped the wheel onto the tail gate and as it rolled forward the disc pulled my middle finger into the calliper. Luckily it didn't slice my finger off but it dug into my nail and ripped it clean off, now you wouldn't believe how much a finger can bleed minus a nail!:O Rapped a towel round my hand and it was soaked in blood. And don't get me started on how badly it throbbed.. Made me feel ill. Went hospital and they reinserted the nail and bandaged it up and it took. So I feel for josh, the little ones that hurt the most.

I did exactly the same thing loading my KX125 into a truck about 8 years ago. Same finger too. 16 stitches.

hopefully wardy didn't teach him that old trick...then again drums are much safer than rotors.

Wrecked on hard pack. Used electrical tape and kept riding then off to the hospital. Shattered bone had to be grinded down in the end to put back together. Sweet

I was doing the running start to get up the ramp so you can step on the stand and up to the tailgate. So the bike hits the ramp, the ramp starts to slide, i'm trying to stop the bike bafore it gets under the tailgate causing damage, the ramp pivots on the edge of the gate comes back and whalops me square in the forehead. The worst part was for the the next week I had a knot on my forehead and had to retell the story of how stupid i was.
My buddy Bob Sullivan had almost the exact experience and it took him out of a OTHG National weekend before it even started. Bob was bummed but was more concerned he got blood on a new piece of Honda of Troy race wear (killer sweatshirt) than he was that he had to go get his forehead stitched.

Regarding Grant's finger deal......no comment.

I hope so.

I've never understood why people like you do this. Whatever time you think you are saving could potentially be way offset by one "little" slip of the ramp. A buddy of mine got life flight'd out of Carlsbad after he took a foot peg to the femoral artery after the ramp slipped. Hope you will rethink your loading procedure going forward.

Oddly enough the same guy years later had the tip of his finger cut off by the lever in a lawn dart crash. The paramedics asked if anyone had the tip and a friend went and got his gloves, turned them upside down and voila! The tip fell out.

Another racer came over and told Gary not to fart around with reattaching it since he had done something very similar enduring a couple of operations that were all unsuccessful and he ultimately lost the tip of the finger. Gary followed his advice and now has one finger shorter than it was but still races......and that's all that is really important.

I agree with Rock about loading the bike. The risk vs. reward for riding your bike into the truck is WAY outta proportion.

Also, it would have been kinda hard for JG to ride his bike into his truck without a ramp. lol

I know from experience just what you're talking about. The only reason I'm not competing on the AMA circuit is a LONG string of just such injuries. Broken bones, smashed fingers, huge bruises, splinters, headaches, hangovers, and sand in my vag have all held me back from reaching my full potential.
I'm usually not one to call someone out on this board, but you sir are a liar!

The problem with having a high post count is you forget all the things you say...

Tell the truth! You can't cut it on the circuit because of that POS YZ450 you rideLaughing

I knew it! Although the sand in the vag is a legitimate issue.

IF journalists would report what happens during the week we wouldn't judge them so hard when they don't do so well during the weekends.

Problem is the journalists don't.

I've actually seen a guy ride up the ramp, hit the back window, and tip over the side of the truck. Poor guy.

we have a ramp thats wide enough to run up next to the bike. i normally ride up it tho. anyone who doesn't have a ramp that inspires confidence is a fool. ive always imagined how retarded it would be to kill a riding day by injuring myself loading up. Easy on that reefer there jg! lol

and for the record i been riding up our ramp since i was twelve at a walking pace. its so easy not to smash the front of the bed lol maybe some of these guys need to learn bike control. I guess if u cant handle loading the bike in the truck perhaps u should rethink even riding it. rofl

Those Kawi rotors are razor sharp! When we were getting ready to ride yesterday, my buddy was spinning the rear tire on his, slipped his finger passed the rear brake rotor and split his index finger wide open.

touched a fan while it was running on a jeep one time. keep my hands clear now. when loading without a ramp i usually just lift it by the silencer though. I figure if fabio can hold his ktm over his head i can handle loading the bike. im sure josh wont have that problem again.

The tip of my finger is what I'm talking about here, for clarification....

I was just going to say that JG is badass for racing this weekend, but your post trumps that! You just threw some tape on that and kept riding? Damn!

We had two of those arched ramps that you use to load quads, so I just use one and it's nice to just ride it in after a long day, those don't move, just gotta make sure the parking brake is set!

I went to Muscle Milk's hospitality truck at one of the SX's this year and they tried to serve me tacos and cold slaw! WTF!
Tacos and rice or fish and chips with cold slaw, but tacos and cold slaw... Total B.S.!!!
