The 90 Perimeter SR500 were so bad that Kawasaki went back to the traditional KX500 frames for the 91 season.

David switched back to Honda for 92 but he was never able to regain his former speed.

Britains GOAT... Very humble and dedicated rider. The best in the world in the heyday of 500 racing against top class riders at that time like Geboers, Jobe and Mahlerbe. That Dainese gear was awesome too. He was also racing in a stacked British Championship through that period as well, winning titles there too.

His ride at Farleigh castle in 1985 was awesome.

One of the most exotic MX bikes ever built. Beautiful machine!

He ended up in a heap at Farleigh Castle at the first turn and was dead last,he picked himself up and hauled his way through the feild catching Malherbe and they were passing and re-passing each other for the lead,Thorpe just missed out in a gruelling 40 mins.+ 2 lap race

In 85 he was arguably the fastest anywhere in the world, beating everyone at the MXdN too,he won both his Motos, shame MXA never gave him the respect he deserved,Weisel made some nasty comments that were uncalled for,DC was a fan I think thoughSmile

Dave Thorpe was the best a gentlemen of the sport. MXA were quite critical of DT at the 86 des Nations, however the year before he waxed the Americans in the 500 class at the same event. Great rider.

Team Great Britain
Kurt, Rob & Dave. Rob couldn't get a KX 125 out of Kawasaki UK for the Des Nations that year so he had his mechanic buy a used one from a local schoolboy, they jetted it set the sag and that was it...

Maybe its just because I'm old but I find that '86 RC500 impressive even by today's standards.
