Chain, Suspension, Pipe-Map-Fuel, Bars and Grips, tubes...all at once...

That's the intial modification-list: However, bars and grips are becoming very "optional"...

To be fair: a stk KX450/250 is NOT gonna need a re-valve/springing for most riders. It's THAT good. Hell, the new CRF450, too.

Tires are not an issue this year: MX51's are EXCELLENT tires.

Pssssst: Some of the stock chains are actually O.K.!

I'll try to shave off some dead weight to compensate for mid-age "obesity". This means Full Ti-exhaust (FMF Factory this time), ti-pegs, ti-bolt kit, Ti-spring and some carbon shit. I'll gain about 5-6 lbs...

Will I notice a diff? Prolly not, but it feels good in the garage and pit and I can brag! Smile

I would say first mod is to set the bike up for you, as far as comfort goes. Get the bar bend right, seat height correct and footpeg height correct. I am tall at 6'3'' to 6'4'' so that stuff is very important to me. Also I have big feet so and extended shifter and brake pedal make a difference to me. Then I would get the suspension set up for you, set up for your height and your weight. Then figure out what you want next, you wanna save some weight, more power, etc.

First thing I bought for my 05 KX 250 was a hydraulic clutch. Don't regret it one bit.

I got lost there in the beginning of the sentence, gained some mental momentum in the middle and figured there's some positivity in the end towards my scooter at least! Grinning

I always scored new bars (CR High bend) that I was comfotable with and wider footpegs. Then after the break-in period I would do chain/sprockets and suspension.

With a 250F I would score a pipe pretty quick. With my 450s I would just run the stock pipe until the header pipe or silencer was damaged.

That seems to be a popular thing to do in idaho/utah. St. Anthony sand dunes is littered with people like this, they always have utah plates though.Grinning

As for suspension...... I start with a Suspension Service - Change out the stock fish oil for Golden Spectro suspension fluids..... Add springs as needed for riders weight.......start adjusting clickers to get it working the best with stock valving. If I am not happy with the suspension after this .....then I go with a revalve.

And of coarse .....full Moto Hose colored hoses & custom graphics....before anything else LOL
I agree with this, but only after you break the suspension in for about 5 hours of riding. Then determine if the spring rates match your riding ability and weight.

btw- Lumpy, they don't use fish oil anymore, it's KYB oil or Showa oil in that stuff now a days...lol

when i buy a bike i always get me a nice purple power band to help with the bottom end. Then i buy a sick graphic kit to show off a lot of sponsors that dont even sponsor me.

I`ve always been a "stock as a rock guy". For whatever reasons i forked out the cash to get the suspension done on my current YZ250. I can`t convey how much better the bike felt and how much easier it was to go fast(er) on... i`m only a once a month novice, but will definitely put money into suspension setup on future sleds.

Gotta have trick looking backgrounds / numbers. *Run the sprockets till the teeth fall off. : )
