"You don't think that at all."
IMHO you put a young McGrath in todays field and he wouldnt come close to all the titles he won back in his day, RC set the bar that everyone since him has been trying to move up even higher.

The suspension on the San Manuel bike was not very good. The owner of the team - who was trying to sell it - refused to put any money into development. And the people they had developing it were not very good. That is why he did not race anymore after SX season. Anyone that rides knows how rough it is trying to ride a bike with a suspension system that is not working well. It can also be dangerous, especially at that level. JGR has a suspension dyno, the only one like it in the industry. After 2 days on the JGR YZ, James knew he could run up front safely and often.
I don't feel he has the interest, the dedication, to bikes, he had when he went undefeated on the 125.
Wasn't RC the guy that said, at 26, he just couldn't put the work in anymore like you need to run at that level?
Does anyone see James doing the AldonBaker stuff at 28?
Naw, I have a feeling McGrath isn't losing any sleep on the 72 wins record.
The only way he would break it would be if he stays injury free and adds a year or two to the three years at JGR.
I really can't believe how he is being hyped by some. People think he is going to be racing SX AND winning in 5 years? What?! People think he can win not only 10 times in 2012 but 10 times in 2014?!! Really!? I'm going to make an astonishing prediction and say he wins 5 at most in 2012, and I'm being generous. I say he wins zero in 2013 and retires after that year. He could prove me wrong but historically, not many top contending Pros get FASTER at age 26, 27, and 28. Reed did in 2011, but that is not the norm. RV is NOTICEABLY faster than he was in SX 2011 right now. There is no arguing that. So not only is Stewart going to need to be as fast as he was in 2011, he needs to be even faster. Stewart has slowed down (ever so slightly) in each of the last 3 years whether anyone believes it or not. He is human. It is like when RC caught and passed MC, it happened, and there wasn't anything MC could do about it. RV is on one of those 3 year runs where he is the guy to beat and it's gonna be ugly for everyone else for a time.
Thank you,
G
RC said it in 2007, and now you hear top echoing the comment: you really can't go much faster on a motorcycle determined by the laws of physics. I don't see anyone dominating the way Jeremy did because the top riders simply can't go that much faster. Unless someone develops a time-saving technique of transporting their body and machine through a triple rather than over, I doubt we will see another rider dominate like Jeremy in the next few years. The deeper the motocross talent pool = the less likely it becomes.
Pit Row
In the current era you've got a few riders that can all run james' pace on any given saturday night - RV, dungey, canard, reed and windham have all showed they can run james' pace (or faster). The only difference being, that all the other riders mentioned can all handle the pressure of being in a batttle, and show more consistency. They also have all raced outdoors- you dont get faster by not racing!
RV is looking very dangerous right now- i think he is the man to beat, the only question in my opinion is whether anyone can run with him consistently?
You also have to take into consideration that the next generation of riders will be moving up in 2013/ 2014 - so you could also factor roczen, wilson, tomac, barcia (who has already proven he can run with the big boys on the 450) and maybe some others too! Pourcel will be winning races when he goes back stateside too.
I hope james mans up and races outdoors next year- theres no way he'll break MC's record, but it would be cool to see him race outdoors again before he retires and goes racing cars.
James would need to win eight titles and win 72+ races to be considered better than Jeremy, and if his contract is only for three years on bikes, I can't see that happening.
