Can MEC survive after Villo wins the million

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 7:44am
I am sure the organizers and sponsors did not think anyone would win the million, can they survive it now that Villo did. I heard it is being paid over 20 years but, but it is still some big money. Did they get an insurance policy to cover it or not? If so, will they be elgible for coverage next year?

Sure, they just write into his next contract that he got a pay advance at the MEC. I mean its a no brainer the top guy at the moment is sponsored by ME, naturally they'll want their guy to win their sponsored race...duh.

400k after taxes and 50k over the next 20 years is what Chad Reed and James said over twitter last night

Yes they'll stay alive. If they increase Monster Energy sales by 10 cents per can, that'll make plenty more than a million to pay Villopoto.

IMHO MEC will be bigger and better... Lots of positives for a first time event, except for the rocks... RV2 grabbed the cash which surprised all but did anybody catch Ralph's comments at the end about a $2m bonus next year?

ummm Monster doesnt fork out the 400k or whatever. Just like most big payout deals they take out an insurance policy. I would be willing to bet that the policy cost alot more once the insurance company got the final entry list.

P.....I "think" with the $400,000 paid up front , they take the last $600,000 and deposit it and collect the interest off the money. Basically , the interest will pay for the total amount by the time the 20 years is over. I don't think it will take care of all of it , but probably most of it. Who knows though.....I aint no financial wiz here........

I think it was actually you get to choose either 400k now, or 50k a year for the next 20 years, not both. It wouldn't make sense to not just pay the 1 million if you had to put the 600k in a deposit

you guys are narrow minded.

1,000,000 dollars. paid 50k per year over 20 years.

50k is 5% of 1,000,000

5% is what a money marketing account makes. a REALLY good C.D. makes 5%. coca colas stock probably makes 5% per year. they could invest it in themselves.

monster (coke) could invest the 1 million in their own stock and just pay Poto the interest. So techinically it costs them nothing to pay him the million. If you consider the hype th emillion dollar give away generated, they will PROFIT by paying him a million bucks.

i can not believe some people think 1 million dollars is a lot of money to a juggernaut like a drink company. it's chicken scratch. they settle out of court for law suits worth quadruple that

Well, they were selling tickets for next year's race there, and last night Todd Jendro told me, "Wait until you see some of the ideas for next year..."

I think they'll be perfectly fine for the second annual edition.

I was told it was a 500k lump payment OR $50K a year fir 20 years, not both.

Ok, so the 400K is based on getting 500,000 upfront. Got it.

I'm not sure I would opt for the 20 year deal; The way the fed is printing money 50k might be pennies in 20 years Wink

Monster is NOT Coca Cola... I have seen that several times on Vital. Monster simply uses Coke's distribution. Monster is owned by Hansen.

The short answer? The sport would go on.

Sponsors (like message board members) come and go. If there were message boards back in the day, we could have wondered what would happen if we lost Camel, or Wrangler, or Miller, or EA Sports, or Amp'd Mobile.

If all else fails? They cold pick up the red phone, and convene a meeting of the Vital MX Rocket Surgeons.

Actually, I think Anheuser Busch (Budweiser) is heavily involved. Pretty sure it's just distribution, but I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night either.

all over the place. Wachovia offers one for the "every man" 5% APY for accounts over 25K, if you are interested? i dont think you are interested though, i think you just have me figured as wrong.

alas, that's just one example. monster has a team of investors,(as do most fortune 500 companies) the same people that arrange the employee's 401K accounts that could invest that million, and pay villopoto with the interest, and i can assure you thats what they'll do.

that payout will not cost them a penny. monster is a not a charity. they are in it to make money. these companies do show shell out a penny unless they'll get 2 pennies in return.

Ironic you patronize vital members, when in fact he was indeed questioning who would foot the bill if monster goes under in the next 20 years during the payout period, not the effect it would have on the sport of SX in general.

doesnt take a "rocket surgeon" to see that, no?

If Monster paid the purse, why did the Mrs. Feld lady hand Ryan the check (cheque)?
I've heard Feld was trying to get insurance but was late. If Monster was coughing up the cash, why wern't they seeking insurance?

I'm confused.

One thing I'm pretty sure of, Monster isn't Coke. We package stuff for many different companies, even Dr.Pepper so maybe that's where the confusion is.

You are way wrong. Hilariously wrong too. 5% APY money markets DO NOT EXIST in the United States nor have they for several years. Monster IS NOT a Fortune 500 company nor do Fortune 500 companies have teams of investors arranging employees 401k accounts. That would be highly illegal.
